Here ya go (tl;dr corruption on gaming journalism)

The Wikipedia article is awfully biased, and I would not recommend it.

It's really, really hard to find any sort of movement that isn't somehow linked to some reprehensible crap since the start. There will always be some numnuts who are always trying to ruin things for everyone for whatever reason
I'm just here to play videogames and have fun

After they removed their permanent 15% off, we should of had a Gamersgate-Gate.

I was somewhere of quadruple-facepalm when one of them whose job is Editor-in-Chief telling that TB wasn't the first one to uncover the Shadow of Mordor deals and do "leg work" on it. But writer of article who in the article he himself linked in which TB was used as a source...

It was similar to Watergate, but with more " ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A "

It's a group of few people that is using the banner of "journalism corruption" and silly things like "gamer identity" to attack other few people they dislike for some (personal) reasons. And then, they end bringing other people into the mess because of these banners.
Anita Sarkeesian raises a valid concern about game culture, but uses mistaken arguments (EDIT: many times). And to be honest, the concern she has can be extended to pretty much every other area in our world. It's changing, though, which is a good thing, even if it's a slow change.

She's not a pioneer with those claims, though. I was just stating the facts. You know, closing your eyes doesn't make the reality around you "unexist". :P I couldn't find the exact article I was looking for, but check this out, on the same subject. From 2009, and written by... gasp a man!
As I said, this subject is a widespread phenomenon (the article gives another example and even offers some explanation), but it's changing, though, slowly, but steady, which is a good thing.

For a while, Jim Morrison held a highest score in Space Invaders after leaving the music industry

Gamergate is a group of entitled individuals crusading against the "corruption in gaming journalism" Anita Sarkeesian is a feminist journalist (?) focusing on pop-culture. The rest is just allegations, claimed corruption, accusations and general controversy which I don't really care about.
although FYI Anita Sarkeesian DOES have some valid points.

No Gamergate is group that fights against entilted individuals who want to ruin a beatiful and open media for everyone. A group that wants all options to be theirs and not allow any opposing forces. They have uses corruption, lies and very many other underhanded ways to do this.

Regardless if Anita is right or not, she should not be limiting on what developers/artists/directors should do with their game, Anita is not even a gamer, She just wants the attention and she is doing a good job, I love how she fails to bring up the positive side of Females in Video Games but you know, that won't get her noticed..

This is a pretty fair assessment without delving into details.
It is unfortunate that the valid points on both sides are buried under the crud they fling at each other.

This place lost every bit of respect and self-worth the day i decided to register here

Don't track that anti-gamergate respect into this filthy establishment please. Just. Don't.
Re-fixed for you.

+1 Topics like these only manage to split the community. I already have to deal with tumblr on a daily basis but just please not here

Funniest comment I read all day. Best thing to do is ignore those assholes and whiners until it dies out.

I actually chose to ignore both the "professional victims" and the misogynist crybabies. I simply play the games I enjoy regardless of what either side of this overblown thing think about it.

Claiming it's "a few people" and going on to attempt to portray them as anything but diverse is far from a balanced or accurate picture of what is going on.
Additionally, you admit there is corruption, yet you would have us just stick our head in the ground and ignore it because "It's always been that way." With that sort of attitude, we should never have advanced the causes of women and non-whites in the first place eh? Because, "It's always been that way".
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh please. Something does not need to be a direct command in order for it to be the attitude you wish to encourage in others. Claiming something is the most reasonable course is the same as saying, "this is what should be done," and you know it. So yes, that is what you hope we will all do.
Also, nice try, but no, that's not a false analogy. Your attitude is that if something has existed "forever", and especially if it's a complicated issue that's not black and white, that it's not worth doing anything about. The same could be said of female and non-white rights. But, if you want another analogy, consider police corruption. "It's existed forever, but people only flipped their shit after this one cover-up".

hah! best explanation indeed. 4chan doesn't give a shit about being considered misogynistic or whatever, they are just trolling.

It started to fight with corruption in gaming journalist.
Now it's mostly about writing beach and cEnt on female gaming persons twitters profiles and sending info about bombing every place said people go. Usually after said people write something like "look at those dumb GG people, come at me you stupid little quacks".

nice, troll the neutral.
no, extremist is a word used to label those people that go for the extreme points of a cause, leaving behind their own cause, just for the sake to be right and beat the other side of the question. the good old "we against them" kind of logic. these people the only thing they do is harm their own causes, damaging those who actually want to change things and who actually care. both sides do expose good point. in one side we have the corruption of the media, which is not an imaginary thing and happens in every industry, gaming is not excluded, and is damaging both the community, and other journalists, those who tires to be the some how objective, and not just create clickbait to augment the traffic on their webs. it is a fact that this kind of scandal sells and draw attention of the humans.
now, the other side had good points too, feminism (the real one, not the tumbrl-every-white-male-is-a-rapist one) is important, equalism is necessary to have a truly free (or at least the most free we can get within our current system) society; and yes the gaming industry is several years behind other industries in terms of equality (it's also a relatively new industry too) and out there are things that need to be change.
sadly, in the middle of this, we have a bunch of people full of hate that just trow shit at each other, claiming that their are defending one side of the dispute, when they are actually just trowing shit at each other just for the sake of it. those people are extremist, and those people, again in BOTH sides of this thing, are the ones that i'm going to ignore... and therefore keep playing videogames.... full of shame... instead of studying... which i should do... and i'm getting late to a class.
PS: i probably fuck the English language several times up there, i apologize for that.

Just like "extremist", "troll" is another cheap way to brush aside the criticism of someone.
What constitutes an "extreme point of view" is totally subjective. Politicians always want to paint themselves as moderates, especially when not drumming up support in areas where they're already the favorites, while they attempt to paint their opponents as occupying some kind of extreme position. When the US wants to disparage conservative Muslims, they're often labelled "extremists". The same is sometimes used on Christians as well. You see it in academia a lot too. Scholars strive to portray themselves as moderates and those that hold opposing views as holding some kind of unreasonable fringe opinion.
Then of course there is the problem with the negative connotation which is often attached to "extremist". Many people who have pushed for changes that many would now consider positive in all aspects of life from philosophy to science to politics to religion would have at once been considered extremists.
The majority is not always (or even often) right, and using a loaded term like "extremist" is just a cheap way to dismiss potentially valid arguments.
Also, I DID read through it all, but thanks for making totally unfounded assumptions. You've been extremely rude.

The real issue how how the media is constantly focusing on the wrong people on both sides of the argument.
When it comes to the pro-GG crowd, the media only focuses on the extremists sending death/bomb threats to everyone and their mother. Basically everyone that is making the entire movement look bad are the only people getting any attention.
On the anti-GG side, the media focuses only on people like Anita Sarkeesian whom cannot distinguish between sexist trope and quality story writing. She takes an opinion, wraps it in misinformation then uses it as a springboard to make jumps to illogical conclusions.

Yeah sometimes I think why do these idiots have so much time on their hands? Aren't they supposed to be gaming or something?

I recently saw a hilarious article on Polygon by Danielle Riendeau where she wrote the following:
"In much the same way that Ellen Ripley's tough-talking blue-collar woman spoke powerfully to audiences in the '70s, when women were fighting hard to gain respect in the workplace, Amanda Ripley is a protagonist we can get behind as we fight for better portrayals of women in video games".
She kinda made it sound like a good portrayal in video games = getting respect in the workplace, which is, again, hilarious.
While I generally agree that we need more diversity in game characters, this problem is blown way over proportions. Most games have extremely bad stories and characters, be it male or female. There is only a handful of developers that have managed to write something remotely good enough that is worth mentioning (Valve and Naughty Dog would be my choices, maybe Telltale a bit).
This problem, imho, isn't a problem at all. It isn't something that should get as much attention as it's getting, it isn't something that should be able to start a retarded "cultural war". Which it has. And it is really retarded. Every hour i spend on this bullshit is another hour i could have spent playing videogames instead and HAVING FUN. I'll leave it to Tumblr and rest of the SJW freak parade to torment themselves over these non issues as much as their hearts desire.
But in the end none of that is going to matter to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when he comes from the Heavens and murders us all to give us salvation.

I don't actually care about this, but this is how I see it:
On one hand we have a bunch of entitled people whining about how shit games get high reviews, paid or otherwise, and the general lack of journalism degrees in video game journalism. Generally, shitty video game journalism, which for some reason leads to attacking a bunch of shitty indie game developers who happen to be women and may or may not have slept their way up the ratings scale, but probably didn't.
One the other hand we have a bunch of entitled people who are trying to represent themselves in a better light in video games, and do so by making horrific assertions and misinformation then wrapping in a nice warm blanket of bias, and then spending the rest of their day yelling at game developers on Twitter rather than making their own games because it takes too much time and effort and money.
tl;dr anyone who identifies as either pro or anti gamergate is an idiot and should be blocked, a la Kamiya.

Well... it's more nuanced than most people understand. For a variety of reasons. Most of the people participating in the discussion are naive, misinformed, or exploiting the situation. When you look through all of the issues the only one that sticks out to me is that through all this pandering, marketing, indoctrinating, and exacerbating the situation purely out of greed that these 2bit tabloid bloggers still have the gall to call themselves journalists when they never were.
