It's going to be a public holiday here and everyone knows that means extra sleep
But what after that? How does a typical SG user spend their new found free time? Let me know what you fancy, useful things you get up to.

Also I'm wondering where everyone is from. It feels like I'm the only person from my region here. Chat chat (:

Well, gaming?

I mean, it's the obvious choice for me because I have no social life and other hobbies or pastimes. I don't know, maybe that's just me.

What your typical dude does with their free time, of course. You know... waxing your car......

When I'm not waxing my car, I'm usually fighting the purple helmet warrior that keeps rearing its ugly head in my neighborhood.

You definitely should, just kiss goodbye to the notion of free time. Or sleep. :)

Extra sleep? Pffft I like to spend my holidays almost anywhere but my home.

BTW, you forgot to add the Middle East, which is a "region" :P

Every day means extra sleep for me.

Mainly I play League of Legends(for the last 4+ years), although there are a lot of other games I play.

I don't understand why you didn't list Australia alone(and Americas).

I think its the Tennis. They always reference Asia-Pacific as a meta region so I stick to that

I'm confused, I am from America. I have never heard this term "Public Holiday", could you please explain it to me?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I assumed it meant a holiday which isn't specially for you, but rather a national/whatever holiday such as Christmas.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ohh so its just another way of saying national holiday then? Ok that makes sense, thank you.

I think you guys call it State holiday. Basically set by the government for a particular state

Comment has been collapsed.

We really call them federal holidays. We don't really have state holidays. Here's a list of this year's:

  • Thursday, January 1 New Year’s Day
  • Monday, January 19 Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Monday, February 16* Washington’s Birthday
  • Monday, May 25 Memorial Day
  • Friday, July 3** Independence Day
  • Monday, September 7 Labor Day
  • Monday, October 12 Columbus Day
  • Wednesday, November 11 Veterans Day
  • Thursday, November 26 Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday, December 25 Christmas Day

Depending on the job, some people might have as few as one of those off.

We've got one made specifically for a day before a major sporting event. Sound ridiculous?

When major holidays are on a weekend, their requisite day-off falls to a day of the week. Usually, if its a Saturday, then things will be closed for Friday as well, and if its a Sunday, then Mondays have everything shut down. That way, its still a three-day weekend.

For me: Depends on the day, and the day after.

The norm here though is to get drunk the evening before the public holiday, or if the public holiday is just before a day you're likely to have off anyway (or if it just happens to be one of those days that calls for a drink no matter the consequences)).

I'm from Antartica!
The only Holiday we have is The Penguiny Day, when, every year, we make a sacrifice to our god Gaben Penguiny for him to not set the sun down. That way we can have a longer day and be more productive!

Depends on holiday ;) There are some that you spend with your family (like Xmas, Easter, Hallow's Eve) and there are ones that are just free days (Independence Day for example) - he seconds I usually sleep longer, play video games or go out drinking with friends.

as for 2nd question: I'm from Poland

Europe (UK) and I usually do one of a few things:

  1. Go out for the day. Seasisde, countryside or places with history and museums etc.
  2. Stay home and work in the garden or some sort of diy project like put up that shelf I've been meaning to do, paint a fence, fix something-or-other
  3. Barbecue and booze with friends, sometimes without the barbecue
  4. Quite a lot of sport on certain holidays so I sometimes sit on my backside all day watching that
