What's wrong with creating your giveaways limited to the already existing Linux groups, like, "Linux User Group" or "GamingOnLinux"?

Nothing at all. I had no idea those groups existed.

Well, there are many Linux groups, however the only lively one is Valve's official "Steam for Linux", most of the others are rather inactive on Steam... And, of course, they are all public, so anyone can join. May I have an invite, too?

Stallman's orders. https://www.gnu.org/gnu/why-gnu-linux.html

Though wouldn't you be pissed off if you're working on GNU for 20 years which was 99% of Unix-style system done, and then some random Linus comes with the remaining 1% and everyone forgets about the whole GNU project?
Also, it all started with:
"Hello everybody out there using minix — I’m doing a (free) operating
system (just a hobby, won’t be big and professional like gnu) for 386
(486) AT clones."
Mind the "won't be big and professional like GNU" part.

He said fun stuff in release notes to 0.01 as well:
Sadly, a kernel by itself gets you nowhere. To get a working system you
need a shell, compilers, a library etc. These are separate parts and may
be under a stricter (or even looser) copyright. Most of the tools used
with linux are GNU software and are under the GNU copyleft. These tools
aren't in the distribution - ask me (or GNU) for more info.
and at the end:
Without any programs to run, though, the kernel cannot do anything.
And now he's like:
[...] it's justified if you actually make a GNU/Linux distribution of Linux. The same way that I think that Red Hat Linux is fine or SUSE Linux or Debian Linux because if you actually make your own distribution of Linux you get to name the thing.
I sometimes feel sad for rms... :(

Please, just once -- can we not have this discussion? :) Democracy, multiculturalism, mutual respect etc., etc.

As a long time Gentoo lover, I would like to join! :)

I would like to join: I am a proud user of Archlinux but unfortunatley I have Windows 8 too (I would like to use just Linux but the 80% of my games are for windows ...)

I'm an Arch user as well! I have Windows 7 sitting in a partition, but haven't touched it in almost a year.

My problem are just the games, consider that I work/study totally on archlinux, on Windows I have just steam and windows games :D Btw thanks for the invitation, it was super fast :)

I'm new to the SteamGifts community, but have found myself disappointed by the GNU/Linux offerings. Since I'm only willing to enter giveaways for GNU/Linux games, I feel my chances are rather slimmer than others'. So, I've created a group for people who are in the same boat. The gist of it is that members should post GNU/Linux giveaways to this group, rather than publicly. Given the small size of the GNU/Linux community, there are no other barriers to entry.
