I am trying to find some decent games that can run on this laptop. I like RPGs(!!!), city building games, tycoon games, strategy games (like Civilization), racing games, first person shooter/action games, and I would try almost anything else. I have a $30 budget. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

That's like an upgraded version of my lappy =o
You can play a few games but at 25-30 fps like Dark Souls, Fallout 3/NV, Witcher 2, Dead Space 1/2, Saints Row 3 (but not 4) etc.

I only get 10-15 fps on Dark Souls :'(. I have already beaten Fallout 3 multiple times and I have NV but I'd rather wait until I upgrade to play it since I can only run it at 30fps on minimum settings. Witcher 2 looks pretty good and I have Saints Row 3 already

Weird, mine is worse than that one and I get 30~ on DkS except for Blightown. Are you using DSFix etc.?
On Sale right now... Kingdom of Amalur runs pretty well. Dragon Age kinda does. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 kinda. How to Survive kinda. Honestly it's best to just google your laptop + game name =)

I was not using any mods when I played so I may try that. I'm definitely getting Dragon Age and possibly Kingdom of Amalur. Thanks :D

Great question! Most of the classic indie platformers of the last few years (Super Meat Boy, Fez, Spelunky, Braid, Thomas Was Alone) should run on it and be well under budget--is that something you're into?

Yes! I love Super Meat Boy, OlliOlli 2, Battleblock Theater, etc. I may get Fez because it looks like something I would like

Tabletop Sim does not look resource heavy. Pretty much virtual board games and card games.

I almost bought that a year or so ago. It seems like something I'd get board of though

Yeah but waiting to see if it will go on sale 3 months from now is too much of a gamble.

If you liked Fallout 3, maybe play the earlier Fallouts if you like isometric rpg stuff. I'm pretty sure your PC could run TES IV: Oblivion fairly well, which really isn't a bad game. I'd compare it to FO3

Oblivion does look pretty good. I really like Skyrim (even though I can't run it well). Would it be worth it to buy the extra DLC or is it not worth the extra $5?

I haven't played it (or most of Oblivion for that matter lol), but apparently it's worth it for the Shivering Isles DLC alone. It's a whole extra world with a bunch of cool sidequests and a main story that tops anything that happened in Oblivion. I watched a Let's Play on it and really enjoyed it. Another DLC is horse armor, it's a total joke. So I'd say getting the GOTY edition is worth it :)

Not dated, it's worth is beyond measured in gold, it's a must have RPG like Fallout. Anyway, 30 dollars? Buy games when their only at sales then or those bundles as someone says, you gotta make the most of the money. So you'll play anything? That makes it hard to suggest you games. You want strategy? Buy Red Alert 3, Cossacks Back to War, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars + Kane's Wraith, Total Annihilation, Age of Empires 3 Complete pack, Act of Aggression, Stronghold HD, KknD Xtreme, The Commando's games, Warhmmer 40.000 Dawn of War + expansions and more if you look around with the RTS tag, Warhmmer 40K Retribution, there's also strategy games you can play for free, great games like State of War +Warmonger, OpenRA, classic Westwood title from communications centre.com, Dune: The Battle for Arrakis, Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty, CnCnet's Westwood games online, Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness + Beyond the Dark Portal, Warcraft 3 Reigns of Chaos + The Frozen Throne, StarCraft 1 + Precursor Campaign + Brood Wars + Fan made and Blizzard approved expansions, and more but nothing comes to mind.

For racing games, if you haven't yet, see if you can buy or torrent the Flatout games (except for third), Burnout games (or at the very least Burnout Legends from a PSP Emulator, along with Street Riders and Midnight Club games while you're there), Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (the original), Need for Speed Most Wanted, Need for Speed Carbon,Need for Speed Underground 1 and 2 etc., You should wait until Crossout comes out, maybe you could play it on bad graphics, could still be fun.

For shooter games I'm sure you know most options but other than that, there's also good free games you can try out like Defiance and Tactical Intervention. As for anything, I suggest taking atleast a look at maybe Death Skid Marks, Double Dragon Neon, The Takeover, Red Faction Guerrilla, Streets of Rage Remake from streets of rage online.com , Darkest Dungeon, XCOM Enemy Unknown + Enemy Within, Heroes of Newerth, Infinity Wars, The old Delta Force games, State of Decay YOSE, The Typing of the Dead Overkill, Infectinator: Survivors, Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers, the upcoming Dead Rising 1 (Xbox exclusive now coming to steam) and Dead Rising 2, Dead Space 1 and 2, Killing Floor, I Am Alive, Silent Hill Homecoming, Resident Evil 4 and 5, Counter Strike Source or Counter Strike Nexon Zombies, The Godfather, The Godfather 2, The Saboteur, and I dunno, there's just so much to suggest, I got a huge wish list you could go trough, I'm a very open gamer, like you, happy to play anything (as long as it's not simulations, sports, space ships, over Gorey violent, anime, etc.)

I can also suggest you a huge amount of free flash games, realy, realy good ones that I've favourites and enjoyed over the years on armorgames.com . Again, I know waiting sucks but wait for sales.

Mmhm, youre welcome bud, just looking out for a fellow gamer, mmhm, I didn't know either until I went through the steam upcoming page and noticed the very first game, a Xbox 360 exclusive coming to pc! So surprised, I'm looking forward to it more than Dead Rising 4, I enjoyed watching the first one, so nice of Capcom to port it to us. You will? Nice I hope you find good games for yourself from there, there might be some lose ends but I mostly wish list all the great or just a lot of good games, no trash, no sports, no simulations, etc., Just whatever good games on steam. And remember, alot of these can be purchased and alot cant be, you'll have to dig them up and prep them for play, it will be worth the expierience, I wouldn't otherwise suggest all this. So so you want me to suggest some flash games too and maybe PSP games aswell if you're willing to try out its emulator?

That's not too bad for a laptop, although extra RAM could be useful (since a bit is reserved for the iGPU).

A few games currently on sale on the Steam store that could interest you and should work fine:

I'm already getting Dragon Age: Origins with the other $7.50 of my budget :)
I almost bought Insurgency a few months back but didn't because I didn't think it would run. I didn't know that it is on Source though!
Kindoms of Amalur: Reckoning looks really good, I'll probably pick that up if it can run well enough.
I didn't really like Medieval II much so I won't be picking up the Medieval collection.
I may get Prison Architect since I like Rimworld and they look similar.

For Online Game (Steam and Non-Steam) : Path of Exile, Marvel Heroes, Uncharted Waters Online

You should try the Bioshock series, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, F.E.A.R., Dirt series (the older games should work fine but I don't think Dirt Rally would work on your laptop), Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series.

If you want to get the F.E.A.R. franchise for cheap, there's a bundle with all 3 games + DLCs on Bundle Stars, it's €4.99 in the EU, should be $4.99 in the USA: https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/fear-bundle

Oh right I forgot it was $40. I picked it up for $20 on the summer sale. DOS 2 is coming out later this year so they'll probably run a sale when it does, though it may only be 50% off again.

Anything made before 2014.
Anything made after 2014, assuming it is not a fully 3D game that only tries to sell itself with graphics.
Exceptions are FFXIII trilogy, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Source games. Not really playing well with modern AMD CPUs.

I can run FO3 and NV and most source games. I think I may get Oblivion since those can run at 30 fps low 768p

Permalink

Then that CPU is a lot stronger than you'd think and should have no problems with most anything on 768p.

I'd suggest any game in the Divinity series by Larian Studios, with the possible exception of Beyond Divinity. The rest are great though, and generally not too resource intensive. Dragon Commander might be a little much on that laptop, though.

All of the Shadownrun games by Hare Brained Schemes are also excellent: Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall, Shadowrun Hong Kong.

King's Bounty: Armored Princess is a really good strategy game that's a lot of fun.

I'll second the people who said Stardew Valley, it's a great game.

Another little gem that I always recommend to people who like sim type games is Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. It's very anime, but as long as that doesn't turn you off, it's wonderful. In the game, you run the item shop that the adventurers come to to get their gear. You can also take the adventurers dungeon crawling for items to sell, so you occasionally have to make decisions like is it better to sell them good equipment at a loss so that you don't have to waste inventory space lending them weapons and armor or do you REALLY need that extra money to make your payment that week to the fairy mafia? Oh, didn't I mention that? Yeah, your dad racked up a million dollar debt and you start off with a few thousand that you need to turn into increasingly large payments over the course of 40 days. Once you do that, you can keep running for as long as you want with no more payments required. There is also an extensive crafting system.
