then having my profile go wonky for an hour, like,, really, you'd figure steam would have upgraded their dying hamster a few years ago, but here we are in 2018, and I can't even buy 11 games and have my account work in anything less then an hour after buying..

pfft, occasionally steam locks up after making a purchase, forcing me to close it out and reopen it.. what sort of peasantry is this,, am I a console gamer...

Here's hoping steam decides to give the dying hamsters some steroids or something before the next sale starts, as the current crop of servers are like a celebrities career after hooking up with a Kardashian.. going down.....

I thought it was pretty clear.. whenever I make a purchase on steam, my account gets wonky, pages won't load, my wishlist disappears, my game list disappears, my profile won't load.

It's strange.. my game list only disappear for like 2 or 3 minutes, but my wishlist and ability to search for games disappears for up to an hour sometimes.. It's very odd..

I've never had that happen. Is it in browser or client?

I've never seen this happen while looking at my own account, regardless if by browser or client. However seeing that you have over 11,000 games in your library, I'm not surprised you're having a problem. I've had problems with massive delay when viewing other peoples libraries, via web browser if they have 6000 games or more.

I recently noticed that disabling UBlock Origin (ad block plugin in Chrome) makes a HUGE speed difference while loading peoples library page (you have to disable it before going to the library). The library pages also display much faster on my 6 core cpu than my 3 core system. Makes sense....more games, more layout code to parse. Since the speed gets better with each change on my end, it doesn't appear the bottleneck is on their end. Possible your hamsters are having trouble manipulating all that data client side, instead of it being a problem with their hamsters?

If the client jams for any reason, you can open Task Manager, and kill off Steam Client Web helper (steamwebhelper.exe). The client will respawn the process automatically.

Did it start at a certain point, like when you hit the 10,000 game mark or something? Does it still happen when you add games to your library from elsewhere? Makes me think it's taking a crap every time it has to rebuild the library. Doesn't happen to those of us with only ~4k games :P

when I hit 9k, buying games got laggy for a few minutes.. after 10 k, it was slightly worse, maybe like 5 minutes until everything was back.. after 11k, jeez seems like an hour until everything is working like normal again.. ugh...

Maybe just play what you have before buying ;)

That must be it. Still, the client should be smart enough to know how to handle bigger libraries, or add/remove instead of synchronizing the whole list as I suspect it's doing.

Well, for now, sorry for your loss of time :D

maybe it's just a steam issue then, and the normal lag will return soon, this really long wait for things to get back up and running after buying on steam has been like.. many I don't even want to buy games on steam at all now lol..

Steams been laggy for me as well for a few weeks now. Especially the store page. Today I was planning to reinstall the steam client. Before I did that though I shutdown and reopened steam and it stopped lagging. But yeah steam has issues with its client, especially for bigger libraries.

Must have something to do with your massive library (very impressive). Maybe contact Steam Support although I'm not sure how useful their reply will be.

Well my steam store page on the client now says

"Looking for recommendations?
Sign in to view personalized recommendations"
So yeah steam seems to be having some issues XD

But as always a quick restart/relogin of the client fixes it :D

A faster way is to switch to your profile, then reload the previous page.

yep, that's another one, it also happens on my son's account on a different computer albeit more rarely.. That's why I was saying it was an issue on their end..

Steam needs a UX and UI complete fix really bad... but why waste resources when you are printing money basically doing nothing? would be nice, one can only dream

I think everyone with tons of games have this issue.
I have only 5k(Only, comparing to you), and when I buy the game, it's always on my cart, and it take sometime to it to be recognized by the store page.
But if try to add the game to the cart again, they instantly update my account and everything works fine.
I know this sucks, but this is the way I'm managing it.
At least, I don't have any issues while buying games, and I can always play them, they just don't mark them as owned.
