Velocity Ultra, I really like this game, some levels are fast, but I'm not sure if it's that kind of game that you search.

Isn't on steam. But it's a good, very minimalist Bullet-Hell boss-rush game. Also: free.
Has 4 game modes:
Normal: uses standard gun & bomb scheme, where the bomb clears bullets as a panic button. But you get limited number of bombs.
PSY: plays catchy K-pop soundrtack makes you stay close to bullets to build up temporary invinciblility (borrowed from PsyVariar)
IKA: Borrows polarity mechanic from Ikaruga
GW: Gives you a bullet-reflecting shield instead of a smart bomb. Unlimited uses, but with cooldown & startup times. This is borrowed from GigaWing.

More prefer 2D games. Super Hexagon, RFLEX is my favorites. No checkpoints (if game over then begin), casual and very minimalist.
