Have you ever met another SGer you've only known through this site in real life?
and really sorry all you curious folks out there, none of us really was a foto person ;P
Why get our hopes up and then smash em like that? ;-;
Looks like you guys had so much fun! There's quite a few people here that I'd like to meet irl as well but unfortunately not many are in the immediate vicinity :P

Not impossible but also not very easy for some. I live in Perth, Western Australia and the next closest capital city is over 2,100 km (1,300 miles) away, and that's Adelaide, which the rest of Australia gently teases as being insignificant. The next closest is Melbourne, which is over 2,700 km away from Perth. The closest SG user I've conversed with is about 3,700 km from me in Hervey Bay (that's if you could fly directly there; it's just over 4,500 km by road) but the majority are in Europe or North America, which are significantly further away. :-(

it really depends on your country and your salaries ;) It's relatively easy for you being a Swede to travel to Croatia, it would be quite different story for Croat to come over to Sweden ;) Not impossible ofc, but requiring seemingly bigger relative investment on his part ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Hm, that depends on if you're staying with someone or not, and at what time you're willing to travel. If you're staying with someone, and willing to travel at odd hours, it's generally not that expensive, even with a Croatian salary in mind. The plane tickets were sub 20€ when I booked them. There were days and times when they were above 100€, but I specifically picked cheap days to travel.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah, if you gotta stay with someone it's surely much cheaper, but first - it's not always an option, second there are other expenses (and Sweden is not cheap from perspective of Central or Easter European ;P I know - I lived and worked in Sweden for 6 months ;p) and noone wants to be cheap guest - visiting you and expecting you to pay for stuff ;p So you gotta pay for food, you gotta pay for alcohol (and you guys have ridiculously expensive booze and cigs! ;p). Again - not saying it's impossible, I visited a few cities in much more expensive countries, it's very doable, but requuires saving and investment if you're travelling from poor-cheap country to rich-expensive country. Also in case of Sweden it adds up how stupid are some of your airports located ;p From my city for example only Airport I can get to is Stockholm Skavska - and it's over 100km away from freaking Stockholm itself ;p So even If I'd manage to snag some cheap tickets (been there, done that - just today snagged 2 2-ways tickets to Belfast for small holidays for me and fiancee for total of 22EUR ;p), I still need to travel 100km to get to the freaking Stockholm ;p
Comment has been collapsed.
At least the bus ticket from Skavsta is not so bad :P And yes, that's sadly where you'll end up if you take the cheap flights, it's our "budget airport", and where I went when I was going to Croatia :P
But well, I think someone from Croatia would have no major issues doing the same kind of trip that I made, as long as they have a job. And you don't have to go out and drink, or eat at restaurants when visit, if you're going to visit someone, there are ways to plan around those issues.
And if you are hellbent on drinking, you could just do a simple trade. You bring some cheap booze, and the host pays for the food. It's win win!
And Rayal is from France, so they should be able to make a similar trip :P

I know it's a budget airport but it's pretty crazy even for a budget Airport standars;) Other budget airports I visited were like 10, 20, max 40-50km away from main cities, yours is over 100km away ;p The only other budget airport I know about that is almost as far away is Girona for Barcelona (95km distance) ;p
Also party without drinking? Absolutely barbaric! ;p

if we speak budget flying your edited idea will not work ;p I cannot take booze into cabin luggage (you can take 100ml bottles max), and if you want to fly with registered luggage where you can carry booze it will no longer be budget flying. Sure you can snag a ticket on a sale and fly somewhere for 10-20EUR, but registered luggage prices ar constant and usually not discounted at all (at least not with RyanAir, which I usually fly with). 40-50EUR one way for luggage can be 2-5 times more expensive than price of your tickets ;p And suddenly your travel costs rise from 30EUR to 100-130EUR ;p
Comment has been collapsed.
Depends when you are flying and on weight. If you are flying during season prices are 35EUR for small weight, 40EUR for midweight and 50 for heavy weight. At least rhat' s what it was last summer, cannot check atm and what these weights are (afair mid is up to 15kg) since RyanAir have server maintenance ;) anyway last time i flied with registered luggage luggage alone costed twice as much than tickets for 2 people ;p so whenever i can i try to fly with cabin luggage only ;p

yeah, was on a trip in Norway once and your guys prices not only for alcohol and cigs, but for everything are just crazy! ;p On the other hand you earn better, so maybe relativelly it's compareble ;p
anyway as for cigs - in PL they are 3EUR/pack, in Sweden 6.20 and in Norway 11,5 EUR, so basically for for each country the other one is twice as expensive. Alcohol is even crazier story. 1 bottle of polish beer will cost 0,7EUR for some concern beer to 2EUR for some good craft beer, in Sweden 1 bottle of normal domestic beer will already be 6,30EUR and in Norway 8,70EUR. It's not such a big difference between Norway and Sweden here, but for poles it's 3-8 times more expensive ;p

Sadly as much as I hate it and am ashamed of it Poland is not the best friendliest etc place to visit for foreigners, especially nowadays, but you can think of visiting Czech - I often do this myself, love Prague and it's quite short trip for me so ideal fo weekend getaway for example - they have very similar prices to Poland, are insanely friendly and funny, have some of the best beers in the world (also Czechs are drinking the most beer in the world ;p) and you can smoke weed there legally same as in Amsterdam for example ;p

Looks like you guys got along well, good to know people here are nice both online and irl

I met 4 people from SG in real life,1st meetup was with Tibek, Junable and ViciousCrow - it even turned out that last 2 were from my city as well - we met several times to party, sadly they since became almost non-active on SG :< Another person I met irl 2 or 3 times so far is NastyHero. He was even sleeping over in my house after we went to the same concert (Iron Maiden). So far that's how many people I've met irl ;p When I was visiting Milan last autumn I tried to meet up with another person, but sadly we didn't manage to do it ;p
Also I was playing MMOs in hardcore guilds for a few years and it was something normal to meet up with your guildies in real life, so I met quite a lot people I first met on the internet in real life later on ;) We even had tradition to go on vacations together every summer in 20-30 ppl group ;)
Random question - in which part of Germany do you live eeev? Cause if it's southern-eastern or centre-eastern I don't live that far away and may come over one day ;P
Comment has been collapsed.
South-West sounds little too far ;p I have many good and relatively cheap travel connections to eastern germany - Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, even some cheap flights to Munich, but western Germany is not so well connected - even flights are no-go, cause only city I can get to by plane from my city is Dortmund which I guess will be pretty far away, since it's more north-west or centre-west ;p But who knows, maybe one day when I'll be filthy rich and will be able to afford to travel across whole europe ;p

Are you kidding, I'm way too awkward to actually see or talk to people face to face. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe someday. I'd have to start by voice chatting, but I'm both extremely awkward, shy, and self-conscious about that damn accent I have. :P

awkward is the best kind, jbondguy007 ;)
what really would be awkward (in a bad, baaad way) would be people preaching that tho shall not judge others and then again they deny people, who are willing to work, jobs which they give to morons or lazy bums who quit after a few weeks or months.

Silent's right, you know?! Awkward is the best kind.
And an attractive man with honest and pure character like you shouldn't think so low of themselves. Makes me sad. It would be an honor to meet you, bluedragonmonster from the other side of the world.

Hahah, okay, I'll try not to put myself down too much. Guess I'm not the best when it comes to self-confidence. Oh wait, I'm doing it again, am I?
Maybe one day I'll meet some of you in person. ^^

You know what's better than one awkward person? Two awkward persons.
So they sit next to each other, thinking "omg what I'm doing here, take me away from here!". Then start to talk to break this awkward silence, and it turns out that they do have much in common, they understand each other awkwardness and can start to talk normally :D
Comment has been collapsed.
But awkward people don't start conversations! D:
Although silently doing stuff is cool, too.

That sounds like a lot of fun you guys had! I'd love to join sometime and get to know you all in person :)
I made some real good friendships on the internet (while gaming) and already met a few of them physically. (also 2 people from the south-east, near munich, too). It's a nice way of traveling, seeing different things/locations and meeting up with the people to exchange knowledge of different kinds!
I'm from south-west Germany (Freiburg to be accurate) :P
Honestly it would make me feel uncomfortable in different ways to meet up with "as many as possible" but it's not like I would be shy or silent in people's presence. I'm quite social and connect easily with anyone who's not ill-minded :)
In case there are any pets (preferably cats but generally any animal) present I call dibs! :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Freiburg is not too far away, I'm in Rheinland Pfalz, very small town somewhere between Mannheim and Karlsruhe.
Annenouk's post and yours just made me realize that gamers are not the most social people, so it looks like you're not the only one uncomfortable with "as many as possible". Well, I wouldn't even know where to invite all those people to (some meadow in the open in summer? Some bar with internet access int he city?), so yeah, not sure if it's ever going to happen, butone can dream, right?
Comment has been collapsed.
Haha, likely I would shake with anticipation :D I remember with multiple people how awkward the first few discusssions on voicechat were - if the opportunity would come, don't forget it that because they may look, sound or behave a little differently as you imagine them, they are still the people you talked to and had fun with :)

I did once catch a plane to hang out with some people I met in an online game. I had a great time. Feel free to invite me to any SG meet ups.

from all over the world may be complicated (thou I know someone from US who visited two SG people when on tip in Europe), but meeting of the Europeans or Americans etc is not so much. Major cities tend to be well connected via cheap flights - ofc it's not available for everyone, rather the SGers who are adults, earn money, not teens who just get allowance, but not so impossible ;p 15-20-30 people can easilly organise themselves and meet ;) I was once in an international WoW guild and we had a meeting of 15 people from 7 or 8 different countries (furthes away was a couple from Turkey) - it's not cheapest, it's not easiest, but it's also not impossible ;)

I don't know but this post gave me such a warm feeling.. It seems you guys had a lot of fun and that it is the beginning of a great friendship!

Dear SG,
I've been lazy. I guess I have to face the fact that my Momma has always been right. Yeah. I'm lazy.
1000 games given away passed by like a breeze. 2000 games on Steam milestone day came and went (I was a bit shocked about the amount of games I had amassed, that was another reason nothing happened), 7 years on Steam birthday went by without celebration, 7777 games hidden even went unnoticed although I had it in the back of my head. So yeah well, SG. I did nothing but lurking in the past months.
But now the time has come, spring is on our doorsteps, to awaken our spirits anew and breathe some life back into this community!
I have a story to share! Last weekend DownwardConcept decided to get into a bus and drive down here to meet up with Paxnit and me! :D
This was the first time for me to meet a person I had only known through the internet and I found this to be so exciting. He arrived on a sunny Saturday afternoon and stayed till Monday. On Saturday we had some homemade pizza at Paxnit's place, followed by gaming, drinking beer and rum and listening to awesome music. We took the guy out to show him around our area the next day, we were lucky, it was sunny, and I think he fell in love with the place (let me know if I got the wrong impression, DC!), just as we love our homecountry :D
After that we went to my place, made a bonfire, had some more beer and music, made spaghettis on the fire and talked and laughed all night long. See pictures for impressions (and really sorry all you curious folks out there, none of us really was a foto person ;P). Right on Monday evening I became sick, must have caught a cold somewhere during the weekend, so that's why this thread comes with a week of delay also.
Whadd'ya think, SG, about a big gathering of as many of us as possible? That'be so great! Because now I want to meet you all great people!
I have some games to share as well and as I became tired of a trains I'll just post them here. Originally I wanted to do a puzzle, but this will have to wait till next time, it's late.
