There are lots of guns in it that you can use to shoot people and the game uses first person perspective. It's a shooter. I've put 100+ hours into it and beaten it several times. Just because you can and quite probably should play through it exclusively using the baton doesn't make it any less of a shooter.

Bioshock is a good start. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is also really good, though many say it's not as deep as the original (but oh so much more beautiful). Borderlands is a fun game too.

Metro is an FPS while stalker is an RPG. in metro you essencially have 1 or2 paths and you have to move from point A to point B. In stalker you have inventory,are in an open world and you have quests.

I really enjoyed metro. play late, lights off, get into the grimy goodness of it all. Also, if you have a good 3D setup, this is one of the few games made from the ground up to play in 3D. Heats your gfx card to insanity.
