Hi,

I'm just so amazed by this Steam Support FAIL.

They sent me this message..

"Your recent gift received from "XXXX" has been revoked due to a problem processing payment for this item. The games associated with this gift can no longer be played as a result. If you would like to purchase this item, visit the Steam Store. Otherwise, you may choose to delete the local content associated with this gift."

I traded for this game more than 1 month ago, I'm not getting back what I traded for it and they Revoke my game.

How the hell is that my problem.. I traded something for this game.. 'paid' for it myself take it to that 'XXXX' guy not to me.

Am I wrong ? Is Steam really in the right doing something like that ? As this ever happened to people who received Gifts here ?

Thanks for your inputs..

If you traded a game or items for it with the trading system, they may restore what you traded with a support ticket.

If you traded a key or something else, your out of luck :(

Well that's the thing what I traded was game items but still .. why am I the one out of luck.. they should suspend that guy or take games of equal value from him.. how am I responsible.

You aren't, but the game is on your account, and that is the item that needed to be removed since it wasn't paid for. Which is why you go to Steam Support.

I did place a request and I did put a screenshot of my trade with the guy. I'm just trying to get inputs from others and trying to see if this ever happened to someone else here. It just makes no sense to me, it actually means that Steam trade is worth donkey balls in terms of security.

If the game was not legitimately purchased or if a refund was requested, it doesn't matter who owns the game. It's gone. If you found the guy on SteamTrades, slap him with some negative rep. Or talk to him about it. Or both.

If it was TF2/Dota items through the Steam trading function, they will probably get you back your items with a ticket.

If the payment was revoked on a game, they have to remove that game, regardless of where it is. If you lease a car and then swap it with someone else and don't tell them you're not going to make any more payments, they're gonna repo the car that the lease is on, not whatever was traded for it.

Take it to Steam support, you might be able to get back what you traded away. After all, the trade (if done over Steam trade, and not a key) will be on record.

they should give you back your game that was traded with the game from "XXXX" (and by should, as in i think that's the right thing to do. not what they actually do)

Just send message to Steam support and ask why they did it and say that you want your game back.

Your emotion towards steam seems misplaced since it's not their fault the person who made a flop in their payment for a game isn't their fault. A nice way for these things to go down easier is to implement a way to undo any trades involved with said copy of game or at least to a certain extent but that seems a bit complicated to pull off too.

You ought to be disgruntled at the person who screwed with the payment for the game.

It's not their fault, but it's not his fault either.
Instead of punishing the offender, they created a victim.
The game should be removed, but he should get back whatever items/games he traded for it (if it's in steam's records, they can and should do it)

It's not a question of emotion.. go buy something in real life and trade it out for something else. If there's an issue with the payment they'll bring it to you not to whoever owns what you originally bought. That guy is not the owner of the game anymore.. he traded it to me. Steam is wrong to follow the trace this way especially since it was traded thru their own trade system and they can actually see the transaction took place. The guy keeps the good s and I get punished for his non-payment.. how is that in any way logical?

Sadly, Steam doesn't sell you products. They sell you life-time subscriptions.

In this case, the police knows who stole the goods though. I think that's what OP is trying to point out. (since they can trace who made the actual fradulent money transaction easily but are too lazy/uneffective)

This IS your problem, it is clearly stated in their steam subscriber agreement, that the game will be removed - regardless of who has it (either the buyer or the person the owner gave it to). Usually this happens when people buy using other people's credit cards (identity theft) but I guess there can be other cases too.

Does it suck? Yes
Is steam wrong? No

1 decade ago

The game should be removed, yes, but he should get back whatever items/games he traded for it (the one he traded with should be punished, not him)

If gamestop employees stole a bunch of games from a shipment cargo and sold them as new, and OP bought the game, OP would keep the game. it's the gamestop employees who would go to jail

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's very different - Unless the offender keeps receipts of the games he sold to ppl the police has no way of finding out who has those copies. On the other hand, if you buy online there is a virtual trail throughout the process.

Another thing, this has nothing to do with 'What If' - steam has clearly stated how they deal with this situation, and as much as it sucks, we can't do shit other than 'kindly request them to reconsider'.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They would put the Gamestop employees in jail, but they would also take away the game. Only if the OP has a receipt, could he get a refund from Steam.

This situation is very different though, no money is involved, just trading.

Contact Steam support and politely tell them about this, and ask them to reverse the trade that you made for the revoked game. At least you'll get your original game back.

Based on my past experience, if the game has been redeemed they will not do this.

1 decade ago

If someone steals a car, then gives it to you, do you think you'd get to keep the car? It's the same situation, someone did a charge back on their credit card which was used to purchase the game. Steam ends up receiving no money and as such, you get no game.

Check the account of whoever traded you the game, they'll hopefully have a trade ban. Be sure to report them to SteamRep.com as well. Consider yourself lucky that you didn't receive a trade ban along with this!

1 decade ago
Permalink

The thing is I would have bought the car in this case... so I should get my money back.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Unfortunately even if you pay or trade for stolen products, that doesn't give you the right to keep it nor does it change the fact that it was stolen.

1 decade ago
Permalink

You'll probably get your TF2 items back.

1 decade ago
Permalink

You wouldnt keep the car and that's not what OP would want.

In your case Peroxide, you would get your money back.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Where do you get that idea from?

The company that had the item stolen from them would not reimburse you nor would the person who stole the item.

What if I redeemed a game from a trade that is fraudulently purchased?

If this happens, the account where the fraud took place will be suspended. Your account will not be suspended, however the game you redeemed/unpacked to your account will be removed. We will restore the items/gifts that were associated with the trade that you performed to receive the game. If you did not trade any items/gifts for the game directly then we are not able to restore anything to your account (i.e. if the game was a gift). Please contact Steam Support if a game that you traded for is missing from your inventory or account.

Thanx Carnehil.. it shows me black on white what their policy is about it.

I'm still being wronged because it says there I should get back what I traded for the faulty game and I didn't.

It may take some time but it wouldn't hurt to create support ticket anyway (and forget about it for a week or two just not to feel annoyed by the situation). I guess it may be that revoking game is automatic process but returning the items to other side of the trade is manual

This isn't a Steam support fail. Steam didn't wrong you. Whoever traded with you wronged you when they traded something that didn't belong to them.

this happened to me last year with modern warfare 3. i traded a pair of tf2 buds for it and a month later the game got revoked. i sent in a support ticket and they refunded my buds, so i traded it again for mw3 and same thing happened again 2 weeks later. i finally just ended up buying the game myself so it couldn't be taken away again. the good thing is that support refunded my item both times

Perhaps the guy you traded with has requested for a refund and canceled the purchase of that gift.

I have a lot of friends who are big time tf2 item traders, and have heard of this happening to them a lot. Valve doesnt have to, but if you ask nicely they will reverse the trade and give you your items back. You need to ask nicely and don't act like they owe you anything (they don't its in the agreement). But the support person reading it will help you out if you don't act like a shit to them.

This isn't a Steam Support fail as Gifts can be revoked, if they are bought from a Hacked Credit Card or The Purchaser of the gift has canceled his order. And yes, I have suffered this situation way back when i traded something for Borderlands GOTY and the guy i traded with bought the game with a hacked CC, because of which the gift got revoked ehh.. that feeling.. :S
