i've seen a giveaways for dlc for games i own where the description says it's actually the base game not the dlc. this usually seems to be because the base game doesn't show up in the what are you giving away list. i suspect most people would think steamgifts is missing the game due to some bug or oversight, so why not put the games back in the list, then tell them when they select the game that it's not allowed. that would reduce confusion and cut down on support requests.

alternatively just allow everything since people can filter out games they already have or don't want to see.

how should disallowed games be handled?

View Results
keep it how it is -- don't let gifters choose them for giveaways
let gifters choose them, but then tell them they can't be given away
let gifters give them away and hope steamgifts doesn't crash next time somebody gives away loads of free keys

i dont think its fair to discriminate against disabled games...

wow i can't believe i didn't make that connection. thank you, sir (or madam), for your fine contribution to this discussion. if i wasn't already at the thread title length limit i would change it to "differently-abled" so as to be more sensitive to those games.

Not the first time it's been suggested, or the second. I asked for it myself when we were still in beta. Still hasn't happened. Couldn't tell you why.

Just continue to report the giveaways and hopefully we catch them before they end.

Can we even report ongoing giveaways? The search feature on the giveaway report form seems to only allow us to choose ones that have already ended.

For now, the only way is to report the user rather than the giveaway.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Some of those options seem pretty pointless on a giveaway that's already over, though, so I figured I might have been missing something.

i just haven't been reporting since the new site because i was used to how easy it was with the report giveaway link :) i assumed the way to do it now was to open a support ticket and throw in the giveaway link.

The old report giveaway link never worked, and no one saw your reports back then.

Pretty sure they did work. What you're talking about is "Report User". I remember bobo saying that Report GA was useful in SG1.

i'm sure there's a lot of programming involved getting and keeping steamgifts running, and as far as i've been able to tell, cg is the only programmer. maybe this is already on his list but hasn't been important enough yet. maybe the more threads / polls get started the more likely it is to get done? not that we should have more than one going at a time, of course.

No need to point fingers at the disabled, that's very rude.

I think showing disabled games in the giveaway list (with "temporarily disabled due to blabla") might reduce the number of mislabeled giveaways, but who knows? I also think a certain percentage of people who make mislabeled giveaways for free stuff know perfectly well what they are doing, and don't care...

i considered that too and there probably are some who know full well why their game isn't in the list but try to get away with it, but it'd be a lot harder to fake it if the create a giveaway page explained things.

I think best will be to label these games as 0 CV marked by red. There are many games which have been given away in gifts but many have missed it. So there are always takers for such games. So a group or private giveaway should be allowed with 0 CV.

good point -- pretty sure i've missed a few free games i would have entered giveaways for, even if i can't remember what they are right now

I have also missed many free games so if someone gave the ones I didn't have it will be great and for many these are piling up dust as most of them has. So giving away junk games to people who need them is great and will benefit many. Besides the rule for not giving away those games is unfair. If I buy a steam copy and want to give the game away I am not allowed as at a point it was given free, nobody even gets this is a steamgift and not some free code.

Much like how Steam brands members with red text. (VAC, Trade)
As should SG with people who break rules. (depending on severity of course)

If there is no proper punishement people wont care much about the rules. But its for the staf to decide. If they want moar work, so be it.

how about temporary downgrading users level to the lowest after breaking the rules ? 30-60 days would teach some ppl to read

hmm interesting. i wonder if most of the offenders are level 1+ where that would matter, or would you let them go negative and not give them as many points or charge double points for entering or some other penalty?

Have no idea. Dont want to think much about it because administartion wont do a thing about it (judging by their actions till now).
Its like with drivers in my country. They drive like crazy sometimes, but when they go west the try to stick the rules because the punishement for breaking them will hit their pockets hard, not lie in their original country.
