Shouldn't "The Legend of Dragoon" get a sequel? Hell, even just a remaster?

Yeah, both.
Nah, neither.
Yeah, a sequel would be dope.
Yeah, a remaster would be sweet.
Potatoes can be sweet and savory.
What??

Just want to mention Golden Sun, since it isn't the most popular JRPG out there.

As for the Final Fantasy series, I have played a tiny bit of FFIV and FFVII. And then I played FFVI quite a bit but once I had lost time for it and took a break from it, I never really came back to it sadly.

second that Golden Sun glory! played the heck of it both in way back and I still remember them fondly <3
Would like to mention Breath of Fire (think IV it's for PC too) cause almost none mentions it either.

Oh and ofc, Rogue Galaxy (ps) should they make a HD port untouched, just PCMR version and I'll throw tehm my money!
but that will likely never happen, so yeah..

It's a pretty beloved title and man that development time is insane for a handheld RPG!

Go back to VI, it's got those damn mechs that show back up from time to time in later games.

My first Final Fantasy was FFX, and I still listen to "To Zanarkand". I played FF7 and the story was good and minigames weren't bad. I just liked the music better in FFX. Anyone have a memorable song?

Wandering Flame is a personal favorite for it's relaxed tone. I really enjoy Blitz Off for it's use of directional audio as well.

Never played The Legend of Dragoon, but I love RPGs.

For me it started with Final Fantasy on the NES - it was my first JRPG, and it was amazing! I then went on to play Willow (so good), Crystalis (I remember it being great), and Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) IV (utterly amazing!).

On the PC I started with the AD&D Gold Box, specifically the original Pool of Radiance which I loved, and then I played a couple of the Dragonlance ones (the X of Krynn ones).

Oh man! I just recently rediscovered Crystalis myself and had Pool of Radience 2 on PC way back when! Good fricking times.

I just recently rediscovered Crystalis myself

I just looked up the screenshots, and so many fond memories came flooding back. I totally remember gathering different powers and talking to people and unlocking things as I went. Does it hold up well today? I'm kind of afraid to go back to old games, since what I tolerated back then - like Final Fantasy I - is not something I could tolerate now.

Pool of Radience 2 on PC

Is that Curse of the Asure Bonds, or Pool of Radiance: Ruins of a Good Series?

I'd argue always going back to remind us of how good we have it now.
It was Ruins of Myth Drannor and I mostly remember starting it over a ton just to get better runs of the beginning. I must 've played it when I was too young to get through it entirely. I mostly remember playing Kings Quest: Mask of Eternity more than anything around that time.

Ruins of Myth Drannor was unfortunately plagued with bugs and a poor implementation of AD&D 3rd Edition. It's a shame, because the previous games - Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Secret of the Silver Blades were really good (really dated graphics and controls, but really good).

I never played Mask of Eternity. The one I played was King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow. I remember being really impressed by the graphics and the music at the time, and also getting stuck half way through in the Minotaur's labyrinth. I went back and played it again years later, this time with a guide, and I can see why I got stuck - it had so many essential items you could fail to pick up and get locked out from, so many fail conditions. When they say "they don't make them like they used to", I'm actually glad that's the case when it comes to games like that - I'll take Kathy Rain or The Longest Journey over King's Quest VI any day.

I had a demo of Masks of Eternity that I used to play over and over and when I finally got the game I had the first areas locked in so hard that it was a cakewalk. It was also one of the first games I ever really looked up cheats for on PC to see things I'd missed. It was a rad moment in my gaming history for sure.

Don't forget the 4th game in the series, Pools of Darkness, which allowed your characters to reach level 40 and kill a demi-god.

I played King's Quest 1-3, mostly 3. Those games were too finicky, and sometimes the puzzles literally required you to think like the programmer (e.g. Rumplestiltskin spelled backwards). Fun, but nigh-impossible. I did discover a programmer's console for Part 1, which allowed me to travel to any screen instantly (by number, without an index), which allowed me to 'win' the game. No idea what I was doing, or what the console was for, as I was just a little kid, but still awesome when I could show off to everyone that I won

Oh, yeah, I totally forgot about Pools of Darkness - I thought there was a game with Pools in the title, but couldn't think of it. :) I never played that one, but it sounds pretty awesome.

I tried one of the early King's Quest games that had the text interpreter, but of course I tried it many years later at a point where using a text interpreter to play an adventure game felt entirely too fiddly and time consuming. It sounds like difficult puzzles that practically required a guide was consistent for the series.

I feel that Legend of Dragoon is one of those games that overstayed it's welcome. It's good but by the last 2 disks it gets silly with dragging out the dungeons. On the other hand modern JRPGs drag the whole game out with hours of cutscenes so maybe it's just par for the course.

But on the topic of remakes and remasters, I really wish they would bundle and release the Wild Arms games all together. I know people didn't like the last ones but I'd love a chance to play them all without paying out the nose for used copies and hooking up my PS2.

It offered a lot of gameplay, that's for sure. I feel like it wasn't too much longer than FF7 or FF8 at the time, but so far in this thread folks have had a similar opinion to yours so perhaps it's been a minute too long for me. :T

Wild Arms' combat looks like a more automated version of Star Ocean's combat which would suit my lazy ass perfectly.

my fave thing about LoD was it was the first jrpg i ever played with a combat wheel, i was so all about it.

I ended up with 2 sets of 4 discs and 1 set missing the 4th disc and I think I was able to keep them all in working condition but have lost many of them over the years. I'm down to just the one set of 4 now thanks to a thief in 2013 yoinking a ton of games from various systems and a slim 360 from me. :T

As a matter of fact, I've only recently been able to replace my own copy of FF7 on Steam and had decided on sharing more copies because of it.

My PS1 was pretty much my babysitter when I was a kid and I put tons of hours into The Legend of Dragoon.
Through the years I forgot what the game was called because adult life pretty much just makes you forget most of the fun things you were doing as a kid (I also remember that I used to know the name of every 1st Gen Pokemon by heart but now I can't even name 20 of them off the top of my head).
Fast forward to now when I looked at your poll and had to look up what "The Legend of Dragoon" was then I saw screens of it and I recognized it right away and the memories just came flooding back. Thank you for making me remember one of my favorite games of all time and source of my fondest childhood memories (getting home from school, doing homework at light-speed just so I could finally play some games).

Anyway, RPGs really ARE dope. My favorites, in no particular order, are
• FFX (first FF I played, best FF for me)
• Dark Cloud (first game I played on my PS2, I really liked the town/city building system which was a nice break from all the dungeon crawling)
• Valkyrie Profile (the battle system and the "release" mechanic stood out for me... VP: Hrist never ever)
• Riviera: The Promised Land (I have it on both my PSP and GBA)
• Mega Man Legends (I never knew Mega Man was primarily a platformer because this is the first Mega Man game I played)
I've played tons of RPGs but these are the ones I put serious amounts of time into.

Not a problem! It's a heck of a good game and I'm glad you have such fond memories of it. FFX is a solid title that I myself adore for the story setting and music especially. Dark Cloud is great but for some reason I've never finished it despite putting plenty of hours into it over the years. Mega Man Legends always seemed solid but I never got my hands on it to try it. The last 2 I've heard of but have very little info on sadly. :c

i LOVED legend of dragoon. somehow i still own my original copy, along with ff7-9 and a few others.. basically the games that are close to my heart.. i feel it doesn't get nearly as much love as it should. when i was younger, i was all into the final fantasy series too. hell, i can remember playing the original on my nes when i was only like 6 years old. sure i had no idea what i was doing and never got far, but i had a fun time killing imps over and over again. i considered clearing that first castle in the north area to be an achievement. i don't own a ps4, but i am absolutely gonna have to buy one before march 3rd so i can play the ff7 remake.

I dunno man, Legend of Dragoon had a somewhat interesting combat system, but that's pretty much the only thing that made it stand out to me personally. I do think other JRPGs, such as Paper Mario, and Super Mario RPG did it better. And I'd be all for more games with that style of combat, just not sure about Legend of Dragoon specifically. I've never cared much for any of the games in the "Mario & Luigi" series, despite them also having a similar kinda timed (QTE) bonus combat.

As far as a remaster goes? Maybe. Though I think they'd probably benefit from changing it significantly, not just throwing some filter over it and calling it done.

I never had an original Playstation. I owned a PS2 for less than a year (I didn't dislike it, I just had to get rid of it). I never played Legend of Dragoon, though I was aware of it at the time.

I played FFVII on PC in high school--it was one of those rare instances of the media's fascinations rubbing off on me. They made FFVII out to be the second coming of Jesus, and I was curious.

Well, Jesus did not come, but it was an interesting experience. Having never played a Final Fantasy game before, I hadn't played anything like FFVII. A bizarre story, a bizarre cast of characters, such atmospheric music, a semi-open world, side quests and mini games, chocobos, airships... it really was like nothing else I had ever played.

I have no idea how many hours I clocked in that game, because the timer runs out at 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds.

And then... I didn't even beat the darn thing. There's a part late-game where you go into a massive crater. I stopped there. I never experienced "one-winged angel" for myself. I think I just got burnt out, and never got around to going back. And over the years, when I would re-install it, I never got even close to that far again.

What I've learned is that once I play that type of game, I need to make sure I finish it, because if I don't, it will nag me in the back of my mind for years.

I have FFVII in my Steam library, but haven't played it yet, because I know I need to be ready to do it all again, and more.

Also, they need to put Skies of Arcadia on PC. That's another game I never got around to finishing.

Agreed on both points, that Final Fantasy 7 and games like it are an experience unlike many and should be completed if the interest is enough as well as Skies of Arcadia needing to come to PC. I played a bit of it a friends house maybe 3 times and have remembered it fondly ever since.

I'm glad you caught the reference. xD Me, and my friend would play a game where we'd see who had the longer gap when citing GUST OF WIND DANCE! The record ended with 2 years, and some odd months/days. But the next time I hear from him it's going to be a new record. xD

PS1 was by far my favorite era of jrpgs. Final Fantasy 7-9, Grandia, and Parasite Eve in particular were all fantastic. Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Sega Saturn was also very good.
These days I think the Persona and Ys series are doing a good job keeping jrpgs relevant (while Idea Factory, Kemko, and almost everyone using RPG Maker seem to want to drown the genre in junk).

I'm going to take the unpopular opinion here and say that RPG Maker games aren't necessarily bad. Sometimes I want to play an RPG but don't want to commit 30+ hours to one, so a 6 hour RPG maker game works well.
