Just went through the whole game and checked every npc I could find other than a few shop and inn keepers and still couldn't find it, am I going to have to start all over again?

It's the weapon that the temporary side kick use, the one he has when you met him is ok as well as any other weapon of the same "weapon tree".
If it was an axe (and it's not) the correct answers would be: Woodchopper Axe or War Axe or Poleaxe or Mithril Axe or Bloody Axe or Giant's Axe

I was just suprised that this sidekick can have more than 1 weapon. If it woudn't be an issue, why writing in ITH that many answers are accepted.

Eheh, I personally never swap weapons to NPC in my playthrough but I know that some people upgrades them or even swap them with other that they like the most (like claws) so I made the note XD
