Hi there!

It hasn't been 7 days yet since my last giveaway, but I already see this guy's intentions and I need to let it out.

[redacted]

A couple of minutes later, the gift link was already used.
During this time, the winner has been online on SteamGifts aswell as on Steam for quite some time, but has yet to Mark as Received.

I decided to write on his profile with a friendly reminder; he deleted my message.
I then added him as a friend only for him to leave a message on my profile stating the key was already used.
It's worth noting that he didn't try to contact me until I added him on Steam.

I know for sure the Humble Bundle link was unused, and that he made use of it a few minutes after I Sent.
Unfortunately, I don't know how or if I'll be able to give proof of this, but I hope [redacted] could play in my favour when it's time to contact Support.

I don't want an unfair Not Received on my profile.
Any word from the community would be nice.

Thanks for reading.

What do you suggest for future giveaways?

View Results
Use SGTools giveways
Ask for a reroll if SGTools tests failed
Increase level requirement
Change nothing

Give links/keys in Steam chat in the future and make screenshots.

Edit: +ask for a reroll anyway. If there has been no suspension for his unredeemed wins, you will get the reroll, even if it has been more than a month. (At least as far as I know)

Edit 2: In case of DLCs, after some bad experiences, I send out a friend request to the winner. You can check in Steam store, if they own the DLC!

Can't they still claim it's already used?

You can't reroll when the gift link has been used, so best option would be to have support mark it as received; or if that's too much to ask have them delete the giveaway.

Deleting the giveaway would be a nice last resort. Thanks for that.

He isn't listed as owner of the DLC. So I guess he has other plans for the key.

Always ask for a reroll if you find out someone didn't activate a single giveaway. I only don't file a reroll ticket if the not activated is around one or two years ago and the user won giveaways of reputable other users in the meantime. they most probably would have asked for a reroll also and were denied

Well, he cant ask for a reroll because he gave out humble bundle link ..... and current winner used the link already ---> [b]Fucked up situation[/b].
...i really hope SG support will help you and they should also ban that guy from this site.

In the next few days i'm doing 30-40game train and "thanks" to this topic i will add every user on steam, i'll give them links/keys there. :/
What a shame scumbags like that dont get banned from the site in time. :/

To my knowledge, you can contact humble and ask them to withdraw the key in question which will remove it from whatever account it was attached to. You should then request a reroll as this person obviously isn't to be trusted.

All you have to say is "my key was used, could I get a fresh one?". It's happened to me in the past and it didn't cause any issues.

Except that's lying and scamming HumbleBundle as you did get the key.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well no, we don't know who got the key. All we know is the link was redeemed by an unconfirmed party. I'm not really sure why you would compare it to a scam. The key doesn't get duplicated, there's still only one copy of the game in question. If the winner says the link didn't work, no one is being hurt by asking humble to reset the key. If OP then choses to give the key to someone else, that's his business.

Permalink

Well no the key is not duplicated what happens is they issue a second key and two people end with the game, yet you only paid for one key not two. There's a possibility that the key was duplicate from the beginning but you don't know for sure and that's the risk with gifting games to strangers you don't know if it's true or not. If it was a lie and the key worked you'd be getting two keys even though you paid for only one.

Just phrase it right. "The person i gifted it to said it was already used. Could you revoke that key and issue me a new one?" Then there's only one key out there in the wild.

As I said originally, the keys are not duplicated. Upon requesting a new key, the original is withdrawn. Even if the game is added to someone's account, it will be removed.

Are you sure it will remove the other first key? From how you worded it they shouldn't cause what happens if the key is actually a duplicate and the first person it belonged to got it legally? You're telling them that the key was used not stolen, so there's no reason to invalidate the first key based on that.

I said to tell them the key was used, implying when he attempted to redeem his key, it was already redeemed before he got access to it. And again, yes, they do remove the other key.

I would actually try to wait a bit. They are still in time to "find out" the key wasn't used after all. If I'm not mistaken this DLC doesn't show even if it's been activated, so, even if they traded/regifted it, they shouldn't risk a ban, while if they give you a fake "not received", they'll be calling trouble for themselves. Even if this time you didn't get enough proof, support would probably keep record.

I'd do several of those things - ask for a re-roll, use SG tools for future GAs, use a higher minimum level, and of course, don't forget to blacklist him.

Comment has been collapsed.

As the confirmed non-reedemed games were not during the last month and I didn't want to trouble him or myself over these

Regifted or Did Not Activate Previous Wins This Month

that reroll rule means:
+ if the user has unactivated wins from the last month, and he hasn't been suspended yet, he will be suspended and you will get a reroll.
+ if the user has unactivated wins from the last month, and he has been already suspended yet, you will get a reroll.
+ if the user has unactivated wins, and he hasn't been suspended yet, he will be suspended and you will get a reroll.
- if the user has unactivated wins, and he has been already suspended yet, you won't get a reroll.

so, always ask for rerolls. support replies very fast to these tickets.

don't ask for reroll. if someone else have the link, do not risk use it again because you're not the only one who have the link anymore.
once the link or key is delivered, you have no control of it... anyone who have the link can redeem the game any time.
open a ticket (after 7 days ga finish) and ask for support to check as received and show them what you done so far, such as:

  1. have the link on your hb account.
  2. that same link was sent via steamgifts.
  3. you tried to contact winner.

You know, I could've sworn that if you generated a gift link in Humble Bundle, it should say the email address of who activated that gift link... or if you follow the link yourself, it should say, "Already claimed by xxxx@xxxx.com". Screenshot that, send it to SG admins in a ticket. Get it marked as received.

EDIT: Nevermind. I guess it doesn't do that anymore. It did for some old orders of mine, but a recent one it didn't. :(

I'm new here, but ... There are several security flaws could say. Activation of games won should be a strict rule.

  • It's as easy as block access to the GA for a week, if it detects that a game won has not yet been activated.
  • Synchronization should be enforced in every connection to steamgift or every 12 hours.

I think it prevents the regifted, traded, sold, multi win, outdated data, private profiles, among other things

There's no way to reliably implement automation. sgtools only works because their staff manually edits games with issues- and those games could never get reliably checked.
so rather than risk auto-kicking a valid user [nevermind the hassle of integrating a new system into the site], sg staff rather understandably asks that we check manually and request rerolls from them if there's any suspicious behavior.

If automation WERE possible, it'd be less work for the staff, as well.

it would work as you say in a perfect world. But Steam API is flawed and full of bugs. Many games never get reported by it - oyu may add the game to your library but API will still report it as missing game (few examples: http://www.sgtools.info/whitelisted) and since SG can check your profile only via API it would end up blocking fair and square users all the time because of API bugs (or lags - these may return false info that you don't own even half of your library). And not to mention other cases - DLCs and Packs not being represented in API, users getting banned over game revoked by scammer that they had no way to unmark in yuour system.

Oh and forced synchronization every site-visit would mean whole community stopping to work each time Steam servers goes down, which is quite a lot lately.

Always ask for a reroll in such cases. That last month thingy comes only into play when they have already served their punishment. If you find somebody with unactivated wins half a year (or longer) ago but nobbody has reported the person the giveaway will be rerolled and the user will have to serve his punishment. Only if the punishment has been served already, but the infraction just happened you will be granted a reroll regardless.
Other than that I am sorry, sounds like a tiresome experience I'd wish nobody to go through :(
Hope you'll get it all sorted out.

I need the option "all of the above"
Lvl 2 or 3 you wouldn't have any problem (99%) fake statistics
Sgtools it's a great option to stop regifters and a**holes
And a reroll before sending the key would be a good idea

Ask for help with support, and good luck :)

Ask humble to revoke the key (theft) and issue a new one. They can do that. At the very least revoke the key. Don't let him game the system. Report to support, and move on. I've never had something like this happen to me, but I'd be pretty upset- I have a perfect received ratio, and I don't want anyone screwing it up unless it's my fault.

Humble has often revoked keys and sometimes reissued. At the very least they will revoke the key; without evidence they might not reissue, but it's worth a try either way.

Gift links display the email that redeemed the game, so you can use it as proof to request a forced received by support, and also to report him for unactivated game and hopefully (perma)suspend him.

I feel you though, I'm having a nine-day fiasco with a Russian guy who refuses to make any contact, didn't redeem the gift link, but marked it as non-received yet blocks all forms of communication. Dealing with low-levels can be a chore sometimes, sadly.

IIRC, if you open the gift link, it should state it.
Or it's just IndieGala? scratches head I am 100% sure IG does that though.

Sadly, in my experience, when there is a problem with sending a gift and getting it marked as received, there is a 50% chance the person will be from a CIS country. :/

Yes, IndieGala does that. But I can't seem to find that on Humble Bundle.
