Is the guide good?

Yep
NO!
Didn't see it :)

it is pretty good, I would recommend that you inform people to check rep in multiple locations (ex SG and steam) just because if someone gets -rep as a comment on their steam profile they can just delete the comment. Other than that, pretty good work

Nice guide, but you forgot about Enhanced Steam. With this browser addon, people will easy be able to check a person's reputation. Also I'd add one thing: Check if he or she has reputation on SteamGifts. Most traders are registered on SteamGifts, but not all. If a person doesn't have SG profile, it doesn't mean that he/she is a scammer, but the one who wants to trade with them, should be cautious. SG rep is not as easy to fake as Steam Profile rep.

Users should also be cautious, when someone offers them their whole inventory, because it may be a hijacked account, and since the items were transfered to the "good guy" 's profile, Steam Support could ban their account, instead of the hijacker's. True Story.

But most importantly: If a deal is too good to be true, then probably it is.

Other than that it's a nice guide, I hope it will be popular :)

I never heard about the "Enhanced Steam", but now I'll check it mate. About the SteamGifts profile, idk, there are alot of traders that doesn't use this website and usually the steamrep is the website that people use to report scammers, but I'll try to add it to the guide with some topics about the kinds of scams that exist. Thank you for the feedback mate, it help me to improve my guide and learn more about the steam/trading. :D

I'm sorry to say this, but you are writing a guide about safe trading, and you don't know what Enhanced Steam is? I hope you won't take it as an insult, because it isn't, but if you are writing about something, you have to do your research.

Also yeah, a lot of traders aren't on SteamGifts, but if you are trading things other than Steam items, then SG is the best place. csgolounge or tf2dispenser or other game-specific trading sites are good, since they only use Steam offers as trading items, so mostly they are secure. However if you are trying to trade money, Steam keys or other things,

Hmm, I made like 6000+ trades and always used only steamrep to check profiles, also asked to some friends here and they don't use Steam Enhanced too. I'm looking to it here, and at the first impression, it's just an app that provide you the links from SG, steamrep,... and it helps you with your games/wishlist. But I think that it helps only in get the steamrep profile easier.
As I said, it's a "simple" guide, and I didn't take your comment as an insult, I'll work on it to do it the better as possible.
I'll be doing some changes on it soon, just publicated it, because I'll get feedbacks like yours and make it better ;D

When I started trading on SteamGifts, it was the first thing I learned. It's good to use Enhanced Steam, because if a scammer adds you, they might link a high repped person's profile. However, if you use Enhanced Steam, you will find out in no time, if someone is trying to scam you. I saw you are through a lot of trades. Did you get scammed even once?

BTW +rep for you. I'm only talking about safe trading, but you were the one, who invested your time and effort into making that guide :D

Adding to what others said:

  1. I actually think the point 1 is totally wrong, sorry. With the fact you can delete any -rep and there are plenty of +rep for +rep steam groupes, checking the user's profile page can give a fake sense of security, which is totally unjustified. There have been plenty of users scammed because scammer had a lot of +rep on their profile page and thus they thought they were trustable.
  2. You might wish to add something about impersonators. Those are cause of many scams and fake -reps for innocent traders.

Ye, I know, there are a lot of steam groups to change +reps, and the -rep can be easily deleted, but I think that is still important, because it'll show if the account is really new or the +reps are from a long time. What do you think if I add something talking about to check the comments with the date of the comments, to see if the "+reps" are news or the guy is a trader for a long time? Also thanks for the feedback, it'll help me to upgrade the guide :D
Also I have one guide in portuguese explaining all kind of scam that I know, I'll add it to the guide soon ;D

Thanks for this. I've never traded before because I feel that I'd be scammed rather easily. But with your recommandations, whenever I feel like going into trades, I'd be a lot more careful. Anyway, thanks for this, in my opinion it is really helpfull!

I've been trading for over a year, I mostly use common sense. I haven't been scammed, ever.

Reddit has a pretty good rep system that is worth adding a mention. On mobile but look up /r/Steamgameswap for more info. Used to trade a lot over there awhile back but I only deal in bundles now (which is not allowed on that sub).

I think that if the user is reported and banned on reddit, he also get banned on SteamRep, so with the simple SteamRep check, it'll be shown if the guy is a scammer or not. And what kind of items are you used to trade? tf2, csgo?

You are probably right that it might be redundant to mention reddit since it does rely on streamrep to a degree,

What JasmineMcCoy said.

ALSO you might add, CHECK the +REP on people's profiles (if they don't have many).

I've avoided potential scams from people because their ONLY +REP were all people on their friends list. I mean sure I guess maybe they could have became friends from the trade, but if every single +rep is their friend. It's a little fishy.

lel, yeah, it can be, but I wouldn't use it as a warning mark. I have 255 friends, and about 70% of them are trade partners, and about 26% are people, who added me, but we never really talk. The rest 4% are those, who I'm chatting with regularly :D

Also don't trust Steam Profile +rep, a few of my "friends" repped me for nothing. Also my newest +rep was a guy, I wanted to trade with, but never managed to, yet he +repped me :D

Thank you for the feedback mate, I removed the "+rep check" from the guide... If you have anything else to comment, feel free to do it :D

I actually keep the folks that I traded with on my friends list mostly because it is just easier to contact them if I find something else that I want. I generally just don't trust profile rep, period.

Yep, since there are "+rep for +rep" groups on steam, +rep actually doesn't means nothing, also the user can delete the "-rep" on his profile, so I removed that from the guide... ;D
