Has the Last Campfire of Humble as a majorly-Steam game source burnt out?

[Tier 1] Epic's Shakedown got to me, they're getting my dollar.
[Tier 3] THQ's Re-Mastered Re-Heated Re-Games don't seem re-rurgitated to me at all.
[Skip] I haven't taken the vow of boycotting EGS, this just doesn't excite me that much.
[Platform] Where's my SCARF? Epic-only is the opposite of a hot deal for me.

Why buy this if they will become freebie anyway? that's so Epic

Pretty sure, these will never be freebies, besides SR3. They are already on Epic's platform so why would they buy them?

Ah, I thought every single game on epic has the chance to be freebies, I guess I'm too used to claim weekly freebies there

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

oh they can easily become freebies in the future ^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nope, they can't be. Why would Epic buy them? You do know their rights are still with their developers and publishers?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

ik that the rights are with the publishers but why shouldnt epic buy them for freebies. They do it with everything, so there is always a chance for them to be free in the future

Seems like you don't know why Epic is doing the free games promotion. The point of freebies is getting them to the Epic store. These games are already on the Epic store so there is no point in aquiring them. Epic only makes games freebies that were not on their platform before.

I believe World War Z was an Epic exclusive when it was given away for free.

I think you are missing one big factor in this - they dont pay publishers to come to epic. Im pretty sure most of them would willingly go to Epic anyway. They are paying publishers to give away game for free to attract more players. Only times what you say applies is for their exclusivity deals... that`s when they pay someone specifically to go to Epic..

So Im pretty sure they could put any of these games as free in the future if they see fit. I dont think they will though, but I dont agree with the fact they pay for publishers to come to epic.

Just look at most of the games given away for free - a loooot of them have previously been bundled in monthly/choice... At this point I hardly doubt a publisher cares if the game is on Epic or isnt. Getting paid by epic is just icing on top for a game thats bundled.

Seems like you agree with me. What do you think is the point of "attract more players"? The point is to get them to use Epic. As far as I know applying to Epic is not like Steam, they don't just let anyone through the door. They pay publishers that aren't on Epic, but as far as I can tell they never make games that are already on Epic freebies. (Besides Control and WWZ, which they own, so it's different)

Epic has literally given away dozens of games that were already on the store.

I don't think so, do you know dozens of examples? Besides Control and WWZ, both of which they own, I don't think they gave away games that were already on their platform.

"both of which they own"? No they don't own them at all lol.

I kinda agree with Kitty. They can do whatever they want to attract more player.

I don't really see the point of a non-steam bundle when steam takes nothing to generate keys and HB takes 30% to sell them in bundles. How does it make a difference for anyone ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The point is these keys can't end up on gray market sites, thus can't lower the value of these games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

and having them linked to an account means they are useless for most people on this site ^^

Permalink

...so? The question wasn't why these games are useless in this site.

value is already connected to lowest price ever on steam...

Not the SG value. Their grey market value.

What are we celebrating here? 3 years of bought exclusives? 3 years of Swiney pretending to be a hero of the customer?
This is like celebrating a disease.

You just have to look at the collaboration table to know that nobody is interested in epic, the user who paid the most was $25

sad

i also i'm interested into some of this games but i will buy them when they will be in sale on steam or a steam key anyway. a bundle for only epic games is 100% pass for me

I wanted shakedown hawaii for a while, looks good and $1 is hard to pass up. Tier 2 games also interest me but BTA is too expensive. Epic haters are annoying and they make me more tempted to buy it.

BTA is indeed too expensive. Stay strong and go for tier 1.

the reason why many peoples hate epic store is because it is bad, it lacks many also basic features that steam has and then many can't stand their exclusivity policy

It's better than Uplay

both pretty bad so doesnt really matter imo

Permalink

At least Epic launcher works, I can actually play games with it. Uplay is so bad that it prevents me from playing games I own on Steam which is insanely frustrating

Permalink

i personally havent had any of those problems with uplay before but i also dont really use any launchers apart from steam other then very rarely.

Probably an issue on your end, try installing the latest version. I've never had any issues with Ubisoft connect, except the one with AC Black Flag Season pass. I am even able to back up and restore my saves manually.
I launch / play all my Ubisoft / Origin games from Steam with no issues. For Origin you have to close the launcher each time to end the session but that's it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

at least uplay / origin have a forum that players can turn to and then they have the achevements. Epic store doesn't even have the achevements on many new games

My cheap stuff also needs to be interesting to me.

Eh, maybe I'll get T1. I don't really like Epic, but Shakedown Hawaii for a dollar is definitely tempting. Aaaaand if I like it a lot, perhaps I'd even buy it again on Steam.

i emailed humble bundle and asked if they can add steam keys to the bundle. I pointed out that so many more people will buy it. they told me they will keep it in consideration but I'm sure they won't :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You realize that it's not their decision to make, right? Ultimately, afaik, publishers/devs will decide on the type of keys/activation they're ok with.

Plus, there's always a "no Steam no buy" crowd that voices its opinion on their social whenever a bundle includes non-Steam games so I'd say that HB is very much aware that a lot of people prefer Steam keys. ;)

I've just noticed that there's an "app" on Epic for humble bundle : https://www.epicgames.com/store/fr/p/humble

What's the deal, how could it be profitable for both Epic and HB ?

Anyone already tried this app ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You will have to download the app "setup.exe" from epic. Then install the app. Totally seperated. It just soooooooo "extra".
