I have an elliptical machine thingy and I grew tired of watching movies while working out.

And I really do need to do cardio on a daily basis.

Been wondering - Think its possible to play video games while working out?

Ever done it?

How? Keyboard? Mouse? Gamepad?

What kind of games?

Is it possible to stream my PC games to my livingroom TV??

Maybe I should try and get a hand held gaming system?

Will my brain explode from trying to click buttons and move my feet at the same time?!

SO MANY QUESTIONS NYARRG!

I used to use a wireless guitar and play Guitar Hero when running on a treadmill. That was fun and a good workout.

You shouldn't. Falling off one of those can be quite catastrophic :-\

I can do Wii Fit? XD

I dunno how you'll use an elliptical machine, since don't you have to have your hands on the arm thingies while you go? Or can you turn the resistance down and velcro your feet to the feet things so you can only do the feet bit? Since you'll have moving parts in your way you'd be best off using a wireless controller of some sort, it'll be hard to balance a keyboard on your legs when they're moving up and down. But yes I think since you'd be sitting it's possible. If you were standing up jogging on the spot it'd be harder since your eyes sort of jiggle around in your head when you jog and you won't be able to focus on the screen too well.

If you work something out, let us know! I'm trying to get more cardio in my life too (I promised myself I'd go for an hour run today even though the only enclosed shoes I have are holey Vans that are too small for me - ugh) and besides Wii Fit (which i've lost weight with pretty successfully in the past) I don't really know how to go about it and well, the more fun I can have while I exercise, the better right?

Way back during Vanilla WoW, when the honor system was new and I was griding my way to Grand Marhsal along with the rest of my honor team, I'd do pull ups and sit ups in between each battleground. Games I play nowadays don't give me much time to kill though.

I used to be quite the large little child.. my partents told me I should try and run on the treadmill while playing videogames.

This had mixed results.

Good = I walked 5 miles playing Pokemon Ruby

Bad = I fell off of the treadmill when I tried to play Wind Waker and got too into the game.

Maybe you should play some mobile phone games to see if you can do it first.

Playing handheld games on a treadmill works alot usually unless you misstep while getting in the game. Playing console games on the other hand...does not work well.

I played on the PSP at a fitness center at college and only misstep once in a hour. Playing a console game at home, i've Misstep five times in 15 minutes.

Rule here. If you play handheld games and don't get into the game, it will work out just fine. Console games do not sadly.

I've never had any luck with it, myself. I get too distracted with one or the other, and that was on a stationary bike, not even a treadmill.

The answer of course is the Omni.

Can't say about gaming while doing other kind of sports, I haven't tried it. It's an interesting thought though and I'm going to try gaming while jumping in the trampoline at home.

I just tried the tablet + trampoline thing, and it was hilarious. Because the display direction is controlled by the accelerometer the tablet kept changing orientation up and down each jump. I know I can switch this off, but it was just so funny watching it. Of course no actual gaming was done, and it looks to me like it would be hard even without the orientation problem.

Recumbent bike + controller (PS3). Do tend to slow down when combat gets intense though.
