I'd go with a Western Digital HD over a Seagate any day. My experience with them has been with external drives but Seagate drives tend to be louder and make clicking noises from time to time. Maybe it was a problem with my drive, I don't know tbh. And if you're like me; someone who consumes a lot of media, I'd get the biggest size HD I could afford. 1.5TB sounds like a TON of space but you never want to reach the max on a hard drive, you want as much space as possible. 8gb of RAM is plenty, anything more is overkill in my opinion. You might want to consider DDR5 RAM over DDR3 but I think that, at the moment, the difference is negligible. My opinion on the matter.

haha oops, I've heard stuff about ddr5 and assumed it was RAM.
EDIT: Can't say I know much about it, I've heard some debates about it.

Ah i see , i too had a prob with a seagate buffalo ext hdd with really was a usb internal hdd which died on me but anyways lol , ill see if i can squeeze a bit more for a ddr 5 , and maybe check a bit more for HDD

lol you hear DDR3 RAM then DDR5 and you assume it's RAM.

Don't get MSI or Micro for the motherboard.. Rather get a gaming motherboard such as the Gigabyte G1 Sniper series or Asus ROG series! Much better layout and quality that lasts, which gives room for future upgrades.
Suggest for the graphic card to get Nvidia GTX 660Ti or better in that series, or the GTX 760 or better from the next series. If going any lower than that AMD graphic cards would be a better option. However, for high range gaming Nvidia excels and has better drivers, support, updates, etc (just costs more).
Memory optimal level for gaming purposes is at 1600MHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, CL7 or CL9 timing.
For your power supply, don't get 500W ATX12V... Ensure it's around 700 Watt with 80 PLUS Gold Certified to ensure stability and quality rails.
For the hard drive, Seagate Barracuda is ok, however it's better to get Black Edition Western Digital or Sea Gate, with 64MB cache. Then if you can afford it, add a small 64GB-120GB SSD in front of that to be used as cache.

Around $2000 is ideal for a hardcore gaming machine, $1500 would get you a quality one. 1/3 of that price ($500) being just the graphics card, which is the biggest bang for your buck. NZ currency I'm talking about here. So maybe $1000 in USD?
If you want to go $500, just get a game console instead. Cheap graphics (1/3 the quality) but blurred enough on the TV people don't notice or care.

AMD's line of cards excel past NVidia and they both trade blows.
7970 vs a 670, 7970 will wipe the floor with the 670 in most gaming benchmarks while costing almost HALF as much in some cases.
As far as drivers and updates, its the same as Nvidia, its been a long time since AMD's drivers have been crap.

Overbuying a PSU's wattage is just a waste of money. Buy the wattage you need, dont buy almost double the rated wattage for no reason, its just a waste of money. Only reason to buy more wattage is if you plan to add another vid card or a TON of extras to the psu. Buy a quality brand over advertised wattaged.

Either get an SSD and a large data drive, or dont get an SSD at all. Dont suggest for someone to half ass it.

That and recommending two high end motherboards when right now OP isn't even going for a K series CPU. Complete waste of money.
This board's terrible for PC build advice.

Its just like if you went to yahoo answerer or something. Every swinging dick on the site thinks they know whats best for op.
Everyone time this topic pops up, you always get the guy that suggests op get a 500gb ssd, the newest i7 and 32GB of DDR3 2100 ram etc, when all op wants to do is surf the net.

It's a waste of cash for memory more than 1600MHz - 8GB DDR3 - CL7 or CL9 timing. You won't see any more than 1% performance increase towards gaming going for 24000MHz, in fact sometimes it's even slower timing and lowers your performance. Plus I said just a small 64GB-120GB SSD to just use as cache, why can't people read?

Don't go K series, it's a waste of cash (you don't even need overclocking these days). The reason to get a high end Motherboard and PSU is because well you wouldn't want to be replacing them for another 3-5 years! It's stupid to get some cheap crap then have it all dated in 1 year without upgradably. For example: Dell does Micro PCs builds for this very reason, so you can't upgrade rather have to repurchase an entirely new system.

If he's upgrading in 3 - 5 years he'll almost certainly be changing socket types and will need a new motherboard anyway. No point in spending a load of extra cash for motherboard features that won't get used.

You want a PC or just a game console, go back to playing with your little kids toy and stick with console. I get ultra resolutions at 1920x1080 (1080p) not dropping below 40fps+ and a Microsoft Experience Index of 7.8/7.9... No I didn't buy all the latest and greatest. Just around $2000 and reduced all the bottlenecks.

I say go for intel hd 4000. I can run BO II at constant 60 FPS on medium settings at 720p (perfect for recording). I can run any game on my laptop as long as long as I can pay for it. I updated it so I can play anything without bad lag. (I've only ever gotten lag in Battlefield 3, for some reason my pc doesn't like it, but that's good as I don't either :P). But if you like gaming, get an actual gaming graphics card so you have a longer gc life.

indeed , planning to save a bit more for the card but i would like to start buying parts .
