They could just give them on Steam but i guess they need to force people onto uPlay somehow as well.

Don't be silly, why would they?
You should be happy that people are getting more reasons to use Uplay.
Competition is good for consumers, "brand loyalty" isn't.

Two words: Basic marketing.

Knowing Ubisoft its more like 'iconic marketing' .

What GOG is doing, allowing us to unlock games on GOG that we own on Steam - that's (small) progress, because we then have a choice of which platform we want to use. Having to use two different platforms to play different games because they're not available on one platform or the other, or having to buy things twice to have them on both...that sucks. The problem is, they generally have no incentive to cooperate or integrate. GOG is doing it to gain some popularity and get Steam users to take a look at GOG, but they don't make their own games. EA and Ubi have no interest in doing something similar.

I get the market dynamics of competition, but when competitors won't work together towards some kind of inter-operable standards, the consumers ultimately lose.

My 2 cents anyways. :P

Actually GOG belongs to CD Project the creators of Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 so they do make games just not very many so far.

"one platform" - you mean like PC? - of course ubi could have gone drm free with this... no need for steam!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I meant one platform for game delivery on PC, which is why I only brought up Steam, GOG, UPlay and Origin. Making all games available on all gaming platforms (PC vs. various consoles) would be great, but at this point the development overhead is still high, releasing games for consoles is still much more expensive, and the division of the player-base is still quite extreme. Making them available on the different delivery platforms (Steam vs. UPlay, etc.) is hardly any work at all in most cases, and not doing so is almost always purely a financial motivation, which only hurts the consumer.

(And they are not giving Steam keys for these games with this offer, they are UPlay-only.)

Indeed, that's why it's retarded when some Steam 'fanboi' says that they wish alternative platforms like Origin and Uplay would just disappear. The only thing that that serves to do is give Valve leverage over you.

Just for the record (and I'm not saying you were talking about me per se), I didn't suggest that GOG, Origin and UPlay should go away. I absolutely think that Valve needs competition, badly, because frankly their service sucks in a lot of ways. However, the way that competition currently plays out is not helpful to the industry at all. Exclusivity of games to one delivery platform or another just frustrates and divides consumers and prevents price competition on the games themselves. If we want true competition that will make a difference, there needs to be more of what GOG is doing with the (limited) "buy it once, own it both places" system with Steam. If I could buy my games from anywhere and play them on whichever delivery platform I think is best, then Valve would have true competition. Kind of like what Ultraviolet is trying to do with movies. Of course, that's not going to happen in any big way anytime soon, and given that, I as a consumer absolutely prefer to have all of my games in one place. Since Steam has by far the best service in terms of selection of games I'm interested in, player base, and feature set, as crappy as it is in a lot of ways, that's what I have chosen. If I have a choice, I'll buy a game for Steam instead of another service every time, even if it's slightly more expensive (though it rarely is). If I can only get a game for UPlay, or Origin, or GOG, I'll probably just not buy it at all. It's just not worth the hassle - I have enough games to play on Steam, that's what I know, and that's where my friends are. That's not fanboi-ism, it's just a consumer that tired of jumping through hoops.

I don't like uplay either, but there has to be competition, otherwise steam could do what they want with their customers.

Wait they already do...

Keep checking the calander every day. Before the event started, the giveaways were leaked and they had Rayman Legends listed as one of the giveaways. I don't know if it was a mistake and they meant Origins or if they are really giving it away, but it does't hurt to check.

Here is the thread talking about the leak.

It was a mistake, because when I tried to click on AC3 again, it showed me that I already had ALL of the games they will give away in the next days.

Ah, sweet. I was disappointed when I missed Blood Dragon when it was the game of the month on 360, so thanks for this! I also only first saw the Ubi30 this month, too, so thankfully they're doing the encore. :)

Plus now I can own Prince of Persia: Sands of Time on PC, too. I loved it on Xbox, never quite rewinding far enough and dying over and over on the same spikes, lol. Though who knows if/when I'll play it again... :P

I wish they would do that with the Pokemon 20th anniversary things so I could get the Mew I missed, though... :<

do yours show up under games?

Because the page says OP links to says after I claimed the bundle, that I already own all the games, but the ones I missed arent showing up under games although I got the badge associated with the event : /

Edit, on the web page they arent showing but they do in the client itself (launched after claiming the bundle), I think there is something wrong with the update script or so

I really hate Ubisoft's site. Every month it takes me forever to log in to get the free game and every month the previous way doesn't work any more. This month I tried:

Desktop: Firefox, Chrome
Laptop: Firefox, Chrome
Old Iphone with IOS 9: Safari, Chrome, Puffin, Adblock
Iphone 6s with IOS 10: Safari
Android: Default browser, Chrome

Every single one of those failed and just says "login failed". There is literally no way to log in to their site and I don't know why. Last month I found a solution to login to uplay.ubi.com and then go to the ubi30 site while already logged in, but that didn't work this month. The only way I could get it to work was to install Uplay and get the games through the Uplay program.

Free games are great, but this is really annoying and a lot of people have the same problem. Ubisoft has known about it for a long time, but does nothing. How hard is it to allow people to log in to your site? It looks like they care just as little about the function of their site as the function of their poor console ports.

I ended up installing the Uplay client and getting the games that way, but Mike90 posted a solution below that worked when I just tried it.

Try allowing 3rd party cookies in your browser if you have them disabled.

Try this https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/NVh6GPF, it's most likely just a smaller issue due to bad design.
Steam is in a similar situation, the store and community are considered 2 separate sites, so you have to login twice if you block third-party cookies.
