Found a used physical copy today, but it obviously uses the GfWL client, and likely already has a used key. I know someone interested in the game, so I'm wondering if there is a mod like Fallout 3, or a file like Grand Theft Auto 4 that bypasses the Games for Windows Live client?

Everything made of Windows is like breaking through a wet paper bag.

I really hope so, I really liked that game. Had about 75% done when something happened and lost everything, now it will not even save my progress.

Create a new offline profile and start over if you still wanna play the game

That sucks, its one of the reasons I very much hated GFWL.

Did you play it before with an actually GFWL account and being logged in,if so that may be your problem to continue using that save you will have to be logged in.

If you can not or do not want to use online anymore you can just make offline profile i hope this helps a little more.

What did you mean by happened?

ya had the game for a while, played it with GFWL online logged in. Got lots of achievements and stuff but then one day I went to play it and found I was right at the start again and could not get it to find my profile.

Started to try to play it again, got in a little ways, went to bed. Next day went to play again and yet again no saves, so pretty much gave up on it after that.

Same thing happened with Dirt 3, though that ticked me off more cause I was 100% done that game. :/

I think all this happened after a GFWL update or something like a couple of years ago. Been so long ago now I forget what actually might have caused it all.

If this offline save thing works, I will continue again, though not as much as I was playing before, but maybe some day I will finally be back up to where I was.

I think that only a pirate version of a GFWL game can bypass that horrendous shit.

You can create an offline profile that should work for you

GFWL is not dead they just stopped support of the service of selling games and content, but the servers are still up for games, but most are dead so it does not matter

I got online the other day with GTA IV and it was more dead then a ghost town

Too many people do not find out things they just assume like all the bad reviews of GTA IV because of GFWL and not being able to save, which is simple as hell make an offline profile.

You will only loose access to online and Achievments which are only on live account anyhow

I'm aware its still around, but this is a used copy, so I doubt the key is still usable.

Rockstar: GTA IV PC uses SecuROM for protecting our EXE until street date has passed, to ensure the retail disk is in the computer drive, and is used for Product Activation of the title. Product Activation is a one time only online authentication when installing the game. GTA IV has no install limits for the retail disc version of the game, and that version can be installed on an unlimited number of PCs by the retail disk owner.

i know the game is not GTA IV and it is Fuel but this may also apply to this game i do not own it so i am not sure that is why i suggested trying it,

This one reason i loved this DRM other then GFWL because it would actually allow you to sell the game or trade it as long as you had the retail disc you could use the key over and over

My Google-Fu wasn't strong enough, was getting hits for people on Steam forums hoping it and others would get the DRM removed.

They key on the other hand may not work for online but there is a chance it will work but i also assume online is dead even if it was the case.

You will still be able to play offline as installing the game does not ask for a key it usesSecuROM which is a disc check based and then checks release date before it allow you to run the game.

That is all the help for now i think i have given enough lol

Most GFWL keys are generic, so try using GFWL key for another game.

A quick google found this as a GFWL bypass for a few games including Fuel: https://steamcommunity.com/app/44320/discussions/0/620696522094047628/

From the comments, it looks like its still working (at least up to late February 2015).
