Welcome Back HB Main Bundle! What tier shall you buy?

View Results
Tier 1
Tier 2: Beat dat Average
Tier 3: $15
Tier 0: I DONT WANT THIS
eh.. I dunno...
an apple a day keeps the doc away! :D

Bought the BTA at $6.01 which works out to the same price as Enemy Within + 0.75$ when on sale so it is worth it since I needed Starships as well. Shit move to bundle the keys though :/.

Great bundle, but the lack of individual keys for each thing is a real bitch. I have all the XCOM stuff already as well as Civ3, but Civ 4, 5, and Beyond are enticing.... Ugh.... I was going get this and then give the XCOM stuff to a friend or my kids', redeem the Civ things for myself... but now... IDK :/ I know that's a great fucking deal for those three Civ games, but I feel like I am wasting a great chance at giving a great game (XCOM: EU and DLC) to someone... >_< I really hate when HB/publishers do this with the single keys for everything. It actually hurts them because people that would have bought it (like me) end up not because of this.

EDIT: Also, all the other XCOM games HAVE been bundled at least once before. Through HB, because that's how I got them and XCOM. Like a year and half ago or more. Yup: Humble 2K Bundle July 8–22, 2014 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Humble_Bundles

Oh, just saw that the keys are for tiers. I hope that if they add bonus games, they will be separate, because if the leak is correct, then finally I'll have a chance to trade for the first XCOM to finally own it on Steam too.

Bonus is single key too and that's why it was found from SteamDB

Fuck. The first game was good, the second was just a sadistic expansion rather than a sequel (still good, more or less), and the rest are garbage. Looks like I'll keep waiting.

Do you guys think it is worth getting tier 2 only for the XCOM DLCs? I'm not interested in the other games.

Enemy Within essentially turns it into a new game. The biggest problem with it probably is that it makes the game too easy, because XCOM gets ultra-powerful new toys fairly early, that are just destroying most aliens.

Permalink

But does it add any new story missions to the game? If not, then I may have to pass on this bundle.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It builds in a new storyline about a secret independent organisation called EXALT that wants humanity to accept the aliens. It also changes each and every encounter where you are now needed to be much more aggressive in order to secure a new resource type which is used in really advanced technologies. It also adds a series of encounters that lead to a very special mission that has a large twist (failing it means complete game over).

Wait, does this change the main game or is it a separate game in your library?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It changes the main game and builds into it. If you want to play the original version you have to uncheck it from the DLC tab, because it is normally active from the get-go.

Yes and no. it is easier to learn the ropes in the original, but it has a much steeper difficulty curve where it starts frustratingly high and eventually drops the challenge to next to nothing.

Enemy Within gives you new technologies to close the gap to the aliens a lot faster, but it needs a helluva lot more tech management (officer training, squad techs, tanks tech, psionics, cybernetics, gene therapy), forces you to play maps a lot faster (there is a resource that is only available as random containers, and they get stolen or self-destruct quickly), but since the aliens get new unit types too, it keeps the challenge a little higher.
Plus thanks to the EXALT plot line, it makes the campaign a lot longer. (The original game was very much made for the console generation, so you pretty much get a new toy almost as often as a new battle popped up. In the original game, you could easily get 3-4 battles before the first research concluded.)

Not interested really. Don't like XCOM that much, Beyond Earth I do not want (to pay for) and already have CIV IV & V.

The only things for this are the Colonization expansion, which is the only I don't own, and CIV III.

Woohoo! This time I got lucky and gave to-be-bundled stuff away before the bundle goes live. (a copy of the XCOM complete pack for which the GA completed this weekend...)
(Or does that not matter this time around, since the tiers can't be split anyway ?)

No matter, solid bundle anyway - except that I already have the bits I want..

I'm not sure if it'll count in this case, but when you actually gave it away makes no difference. Even if you gave it away a year ago, your real CV value will be dropped once it is bundled.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

FAQ (and past experience) says otherwise:

Giveaways for bundle games created after the bundle date will always receive 15% of their value. ... . Keep in mind that changes to the list of bundle games will apply retroactively, so if a bundle begins today, attempting to gift the game before it's added to the list will offer no advantage. Games may also be added to the bundle list if they're available for free during a promotion, or if they're highly discounted in a sale.

Of course, I am half expecting the price of the first XCOM to get slashed when XCOM 2 gets released in a few weeks, which will cause my CV to drop. But I'm not really going to worry about that either.

Rachel, you can add this:

BTA (current): https://steamdb.info/sub/90303/apps/
BTA( next week, already posted ;) ): https://steamdb.info/sub/90305/apps/
T3: https://steamdb.info/sub/90304/apps/

there is a problem with BTA
as steamdb informs and as other ppl write in threads - there is only base game of Civ IV, not the CE

They're really expansions so it's normal that they get their own library entries. What used to be even more confusing is that the Mac version had separate entries too so it looked like duplicates in the library.

Shame about the single tier keys. I would've bought the first Tier, give Xcom to my brother, keep myself Pirates! and the Ace Patrol bundle and then keep Civ III for a giveaway.

Now, I guess I'll just stick to Tier No.

edit: that said, Xcom and Civ V are faaaaantastic :D

That whole "three keys total" thing really ruins it... I have at least 1 game from Tier 1 & BTA, and would giveaway those, plus 3~4 others ordinarily otherwise. Would probably get it otherwise...

Meh... Gonna send in a support ticket about that bollocks, see what they say about it. No harm in doing so.
Its misleading information to those who have used HB before and got different keys... Misleading as in fact there's NOTHING on the main page stating that its singular keys for each tier :\

They are doing it because idiots buy them to resell on sites like HRK,G2A and other shady ones,to help prevent this more are doing this, the people that need and want cheap games from these sites, has forced the hands of publishers.

These bundle keys where meant for personal use or gifting, not for resale so they are doing to do what they can to prevent that,i would do the same, but lucky they are not also throwing region locks on top of this.

I said it awhile ago that more are going to do this and people just shrugged it off,to think of others follow suit, what will become of SG,other then really cheap indie bundles.

Am i a bit let down yes,is it the end of the world no,is it worth getting pissed about no.The biggest down side i can see of this,is if you own most of the games your most likely not going to buy it for one or two if the BTA is high or about what the sale price is.I own most of these games i only want CIV IV and V but some of them i do not want, and this forces me to add games to my account i do not want or need.

Now i am left with a choice get the BTA and add games i do not want or need and then remove them myself using steam support,or just skipping the trouble and waiting for s sale,as CIV i Vs not even complete.

Also i was going to buy the whole package for a whitelist GA for some of the games like Beyound Earth now i can not ::sad face::

It is true i did not touch this bundle because of that, mostly because all the games that would be going to waste,i could not gift them to a friend or make a GA,unless i willing to give each tier as a whole.

To think i was thinking of getting the whole bundle to do a GA,i have no interest in the latest CIV so without the option to gift it,i would just be throwing money away, all well i guess they do not care what is one non playing customer when they will still make decent bank on this bundle.

So maybe i will just save my 6 something for BTA and put it towards the monthly for Alien Iso at least if the rest of the bundle was crap i still got a fair deal on the Alein Iso,seeing how it was 12 something during winter sale. The leaked games which i am sure is true given date added and what they are,i would basically be throwing money away since CIV V is not complete.

They could have at least put them in groups like teir CIV games together for like tier 2 and left the other ones alone, and and teir the ace patrol with pirates game, and left the others alone. and so forth i still would have bought it then.

Yeah i think i will wait till toward the end buy the bundle and wait to see what games are in it,that way i can get a refund if i do not like any of the bundle games or at the least think they would be hard to split for price.

Selling them is no more damaging to Firaxis' income than giving them away for free. If you don't like the concept, better leave SG.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How do you figure that?

Resellers acquire disproportionately more and form a secondary market which takes away from their sales at other times.

A few hundred copies given away to random winners on a giveaway site is rather different.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I never said anything about lost sales did i,still does not change they are not meant to be resold once purchased,so i do not like it,so i shall leave because i do not like bundle tiers lol

Alright then, judging by how many dislike it in this thread a lone a lot of people should leave on that basis alone. My only point was people are reselling items that are not meant to be and for personal use, they do not like it so they are doing things to stop it,there choice there product,i said nothing about lost sales.

I merely wanted CIV IV and CIV V and wanted to do a GA of the games i own or do not want, now either have to buy the tier keys and add games to account i do not want or need, there fore is a waste of my time and money. They lost a sale not because i could not do a GA,but because i have to redeem games i spent money on i already own or do not need or want, instead of gifting them to friends or make as GA's,there for i will not buy them on the merit of that.

And I wanted Enemy Withing only. But while they probably lost a sale (if we could have share it, only one on the two of us) but they also prevented resellers to buy hundreds of their collection. Sucks to be you, sucks to be me, but at a bundle of this caliber it's really, really understandable that they done this. I'm not happy but this is a financially well done decision on their part - hope they'll use the money for making beyond earth better, or something like that - as far as I heard it's not as original as it should be (which is quite funny how every Sid Meier's stuff died out but Civilization)

It is,but V is not and the bonus unlocks suck ass,and i only need and want those 2 games but not at the BTA price it started at considering i would have to waste all other games on my account and top of that still spend god knows how much on dlc to complete CIV V.

It is still a really nice bundle,i wish i had not bought the xcom dlc not long ago for 6 something i would bought that tier just for that and CIV games alone without blinking an eye,as it stands now i would be pretty much spending 6 something on 2 games, hell i got the Code Master BTA for not even 4 bucks that was a damn steal lol
