I just usually buy some random games and give them away. I don't buy bundles, so I rarely have bundle games, but there have been times that I gave away a few bundle games too. As for who has given away the most games, maybe it's zelghadis? I don't even know, I'm just guessing. xD

The highest one I've seen is this guy https://www.steamgifts.com/user/Spazfrag

As I said, it was just a guess. :P But yeah, that's probably the highest. And he's not even a developer. :O

Post below I just made has a user with 107K in GAs.

cowmoobaby beats steffke's real cv (gl loading that massive SGTools page :P)
ZemunBRE has the highest count i'm aware of
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I knew Steffke wasn't at the top, but it's hard to remember names.
I know there's one person with incredible CV who never posts on the forums, but can't remember their name for the life of me.
ZemunBRE isn't the top for the numbers, either, but he's the one I remembered.

There's also Crossbourne between steffke and cowmoobaby.

cowmoobaby is a girl iirc, and she asked support to grant her dev status so she could make more giveaways without bothering them for more slots
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I am male!!:) It is also true support just gave me the developer tag so I could make unlimited amount of ga slots

ASCII Attack was fun but it caused severe nausea
I take it was due to the very odd controls and the shifting camera angels that came with it? I had fun too but that was one of my sticking points against it.

His. Steffke is a guy. I used to make the same mistake.
Comment has been collapsed.
Idk how anyone thinks Steffke/Princess Kenny is a girl unless you never seen South Park. Just because you dress like a princess doesn't make you a female. xD

He's okay but just wanted to opt out of the site for personal reasons.

There were some developers who gave away like 50.000 copies of their game (Galactic Arms Race IIRC), they probably have the lead in numbers :P
EDIT: nope it was 25.000 https://www.steamgifts.com/user/AstralProjection
Comment has been collapsed.
wasn't there someone who just made a game to give away 150k copies? Sneaky beaky like.
Comment has been collapsed.
I believe it drops 10% for every following copy after the 5th, i.e. in this case (Dwarfs!? 10p):
10p, 10p, 10p, 10p, 10p, 9p, 8.1p, 7.29p, 6.56p, 5.9p, 5.3p, 4.78p, 4.30p, 3.87p, 3.48p, 3.13p, 2.81p, 2.5p, 2.28p, 2.05p, 1.84p, 1.66p, 1.49p, 1.34p, 1.21p, 1.09p, 0.98p, 0.88p, 0.79p, 0.71p, 0.64p, 0.59p, 0.52p, etc...
You can see the pattern, if my math is correct, after 50 games given away they are worth a few cents, and it is probably rounded to 0 after some more (100 o 200 copies).
Comment has been collapsed.
Copy get's rounded to zero when it's worth less than 1 cent rounded (so copy worth 0.005$ will still give 1 cent CV, copy worth 0.00499$ will give no CV). Number of copies giving CV depends on game's price obviously (1$ bundled game - so worth 0.15$ CV will drop to 0 cents on 39th copy, while 800$ Gamemaker Bundle will drop to 0cents on 120th copy) but fot a 10P game it will be 77 copies max that will give you CV (5 first copies will give full CV, then next 72 will give smaller CV, 72nd copy will give 0,005075288$, which is still rounded up to 1 cent, while 73rd will only give 0,004567759$ which will be reounded up to 0$, same for every further GA.
Max CV you can get by giving away 10P non-bundled game is thus 139,95$.
BUT! The guy gave away Dwarfs AFTER it got added to bundle list (it's on Bundle list since 2013), thus initial value of game is not 10$ but 1.5$. In this case only 59 copies give CV (60th copy will be worth 0,004564879$, again - rounds down to 0$), so for his 100000 Copies GA he earned grand total of 20.96$ CV ;p And he would earn the same number if he made 59 copies ;p
BUT BUT! Even better, he gave away thousands of copies of Dwarfs before so, already hitting cap of 59 GAs before his 100000 GA started, thus his 100000 copies GA gave him grand total of 0$ CV ;p

I give games away because making other people happy makes me happy. I don't see that option in your poll, however.
Comment has been collapsed.
just wondered who was the most generous on steamgifts?
Why does generosity and the number of games given away have to be mutually exclusive? If a relatively poor user buys a game to giveaway that he/she really enjoyed so that others may enjoy it too, is that user less generous than a user that make a 6 or 7 figure salary, but wants to be level 10 for the e-penis effect?

this site isn't charity
Damn, I just used all of my sent gifts this year as a tax write-off. Hope Uncle Sam won't catch on...

I gave you $10 and he gave you $20. You felt that he was better just because he gave you more when he has $200 and all I had was $10.

Good point about generosity being a function of your resources:

If I could I would choose many options from your poll.
I give games away just for the sake of it. But I often give away bundled stuff that I own. However, I also buy stuff just to give away as well. I give away stuff to groups that I'm in because most of the people there deserve some nicer stuff, but I also give away publicly and to low or no levels because that's what the site is about in my mind.
Also, it's fun and I like the community even though nowadays I mostly lurk or don't even have time to read too much stuff here, so I guess it's my way of participating :P

I give games away for a multiple number of reasons.
1) I may already own the game and bought the bundle because of other games I was interested in.
2) I bought the game because it looked good and then read the reviews (Warhammer Vermintide for example)
3) I like to maintain a 1:1 ratio if possible.
4) A lot of good games simply aren't given away at a low level. I recently hit level 5 and lots of wishlisted giveaways appeared.
5) Last, but not least, is that some people simply can't afford this or that game for whatever reason.

I giveaway stuff because it makes me happy. Also, winning a lot and not giving back makes me feel very uncomfortable. Also, this comment is equipped with a trap.
Comment has been collapsed.
This is against the rules. Please don't delete your comments or you may be disqualified.
Deleting your replies is not allowed, especially on traps. Play fair and take the loss like a boss. I will be monitoring everything very closely, so I will catch you in the act, which may disqualify you from the event.
This is a rule I strongly believe in enforcing.

I don't like the texts hidden under the spoiler warning type of things. Juuuust sayin'. :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh? Why?
Just to be clear, the only case where this is in my replies is when I am replying to user while discussing the rules of the game. If you check rule #5, it says "I will rarely reply to any "claim" replies, but if I do (example, stating rules or pointing out something about the event), it does not count as a "claimable" comment. Pretty much any of my comments mentioning this event will be invalid for a claim."
The reason why I add this is to make it clear to participants that this is a reply that shouldn't be claimed. A participant paying attention would know that, according to the rules, this reply shouldn't be claimed - but most players won't have time to really check thoroughly to see if a comment can be claimed or not. Last year I had trouble with people breaking this rule a lot, hence why I added a quick spoilered reminder to all of my replies. :P

I know :) I was just kinda.. uh, teasing you because I'd rather they were claimable :P I'm well aware that they aren't. Also, yesterday you hid a "this reply IS claimable" in one of them, so that's what I was (more or less) referring to :)

I think for the next catch you event I'll try getting the highest negative score, just for fun.

I give because I enjoy doing it. It is purely selfish on my part. Whether they play it or not is on them (though it is nice to see someone enjoyed the gift).
Comment has been collapsed.
I think it's a mistake to call it selfish simply because you enjoy it. People (not necessarily you) like to throw around this cheap argument about altruism not really existing because doing altruistic actions produces good feelings in people, and I think it's harmful and degrading to good people (including ourselves) if we buy into that line.
Instead, the reason you feel good afterward is precisely because you judged it to be an independently good thing to do. Dostoyevsky didn't want to stop the carriage driver from beating the horse to make his own discomfort go away: he felt discomfort because he judged the beating to be wrong in the first place.

I agree. There are a number of users that frequent some of these small, high requirement groups almost exclusively, but in first glance, they seem to have given a lot to the general population.

Probably KTS because not only did he give without receiving, he directly gifted games. He even bought the only two games he won so they could go to another person.
I used to think that those who have nothing that give are generous... But really its just stupidity. You'd rather give a game than eat? Its not selflessness... Its natural selection at its finest xD Anybody who wins are not generous because they are not just giving to not receive.
I give because... I dunno... At first it was because I sold my console so I had extra money to spend and now... I'm addicted :3
