This is probably a dumb question, but is it possible to give away a game that's in your Steam library?

...That's a funny question. How would it even be possible?
But to answer your question, no, you cannot. Once a game is activated onto an account, it is linked to it permanently.

One could possibly give away their account maybe, with the game activated on it?

Nope. That's against the Steam ToS.

Well, I never said it was a good thing to do. Just that is was a possible scenario that would work.

Huh, nope? The topic was about giving away the games on Steamgifts. Giving away a Steam account with the game activated on it would break the Steamgifts rules either way. :P

Not possible though i heard that another service..kinda like Steam and Desura allows you to trade away your games by unlinking it from your account..forgot the name, but they only have mainly indie games.

Greenman Gaming takes trade-ins.

Possible? Well, he didn't specify the duration of the "giving". It could just be temporary, a lending library per se. Steam would have to enforce a fairly open license policy, allowing 1 associated device at a time which allowed short-term transfers to different devices.

But definitely not possible or legit in reality.

Ok so what if I own a couple of games, and then I buy a pack that comes with... seven games, and two are ones I already own. Can I give away the two that I already own while keeping the other five?

usually not if it's a steam collection. If it's from a bundle site, then yes.

Well that sucks. So I'll just be stuck with two copies? What do I do with them?

I believe it depends on the pack you've bought, with some packs the games you already have are added to your inventory.

Don't worry, when you add a pack to your library, any game you already had will jut vanish into ether. They merely activate all the items in your library and whatever you already have is simply ignored.

There are a few exceptions which will give you an extra copy in your inventory but they are clearly labeled as such.

I reason I asked is because I bought the Just Cause 1 + 2 pack, and I don't really want JC1.

Yes, I have only ran into this with the Serious Sam complete pack. It gave me back giftable copies of the games I already own. It is very seldom that happens I have been informed. I am sure the Just Cause pack would not do this. Might be better to make a giveaway for the 1+2 pack and go purchase the one game wanted. As that is all you will get anyways when redeemed.

Valve packs also do this, and I've heard 2k games' packs too.

Steam's packs cannot be split and have to be activated as a whole.

if the game is in your inventory and not your library, than you can give it away. Otherwise, it's yours to keep forever, or until Steam figures out a system for selling "used" games.
