After watching the Far Cry 3 trailer I noticed that in the first person you could still shoot from around cover and stuff.

Any other games that do this? And I'm not talking Rainbow Six "switch to third person for cover" type stuff.

also the older games (like orginal ghost recon, i think) way back, had a lean left, lean right buttons. so you can look around a corner, and shoot.

Haven't seen the trailer, but the only thing I can picture is you running up to a wall, pressing a lean key and shooting. Someone link to the relevant trailer?

Yeah, indeed,Call of Juarez Bound in Blood is pretty cool, and the first one too,the story is awesome and has outstanding graphics and the gameplay is amazing but don't buy The Cartel because it sucks.

Eh, I want the cover system gone from all games altogether. Mafia one was amazing without it, they made Mafia II the same as every TPS out there with it. GET RID OF IT.

Maybe not gone from all games, but I'd like far less games to use it. I like having a load of health and juggernauting through a horde of enemies. Your only defense? Killing them quickly, before they can kill you. Not hiding behind a waist-high wall popping off a shot every now and then while your health regenerates. What is this sissy gameplay? I want to murder everything, not cower in fear.

I dont see how a mechanic stops you from doing that..

Okay, try this. Start up Gears of War. Now find an area populated with a whole bunch of enemies. Now run out and try and shoot them all without getting behind cover or dying. Now tell me you don't understand how it stops me.

How would it be any different if the cover system was just gone? You should still be getting shot at if you just stood out in the open lol.

The decrease in health is all part of the mechanic. Cover-based games typically have less health to offer. Once you go straight Serious Sam, however, you're expected to take some fire in the line of duty.

Then play that game lol.

No lol.

There's only a handful of Serious Sam titles, and no word of whether they're working on another one now that 3's out. Yet practically every 3PS that comes out now is cover-based, and more than a handful of FPS's are following suit. And the ones that aren't have regenerating health, so you have to hide every five seconds anyways. So yeah I could go play Serious Sam forever and ever. But somehow playing the same levels for all eternity just doesn't strike me as interesting.

A cover system is just lean for casuals.

Or is this case, a compromise due to a lack of buttons on controllers.

(Lean with controllers is bad.)

Played it, bad controls. It may have been bearable for you, but it was just awful in comparison to other systems of control.

Why would you want to spend most of your time staring at a wall and trying to shoot blinding at nothing you can see? There is a reason that FPS don't use cover.

The cover mechanic allows you to duck behind cover, go prone and lean side to side using a very intuitive control scheme.
