Dear people of Steamgifts YOU are probably my only and last hope...
I have been fighting with this problem for past 12 hours but nothing works...
I'm starting to think that my days of playing games on Steam are over and I have to move to GOG and EPIC.

Problem:

I can log in to my Steam account on my browser and on my phone but not in the STEAM CLIENT.
After using my login and password and authentication, it always stays on the screen where and only the Steam badge spins. (https://paste.pics/a0fa938a31c66e188bd2b7f3f0a5d9d4)
When I try to log in by using QR code it also does nothing in the STEAM CLIENT while it took only few seconds to log me in with QR code when I tried to log in to my account in the Google Chrome. (https://paste.pics/60890e61b7db3e629750966d27865bcc)

So far I've tried:

  1. Running Steam as administrator.
  2. Reinstalling Steam after cleaning the previous installation and any files it left behind.
  3. Format my computer and reinstall only Windows 10 and Steam.
  4. Format my computer and reinstall Windows 10 + all drivers and Steam.
  5. Running Steam with the firewall disabled and all security features disabled in Windows Defender.
  6. Adding the Steam folder and files from the folder as exceptions in Windows Defender.
  7. I tested the HD for errors.
  8. I tested the RAM for errors.
  9. I disconnected the router from the power for 30 minutes to restart and reconnected.
  10. I tried to log in using a VPN.
  11. I tried to log in on another computer.
  12. I do not have overclocked neither on the processor nor on the RAM.
  13. I tried to log in with the -tcp flag and the command line for autologin.

I have search the internet and saw that many people had this problem since 2012 but no solutions I found were working for me...

Thank you. Good to see I'm not the only one with that problem.

People are speculating on Steam forum it may be large libraries or lunar sale update causing the issue. But they have I think not mentioned that maintenance was yesterday (every tuesday). Depending on sleep/work/school schedule users affected would be discovering this problem at different at times.

Steam does maintenance in "batches", so at some point my main account may be able to be online while my alt cannot and vice versa. I would speculate it's the maintenance that messed something up.

Might sound dumb but I would just suggest try some EGS freebies and wait to see when it's fixed.

To tell the truth what you say makes sense and since I'm also sick I will just lay in bed take meds and watch some movies while checking every few hours if the fixed it.

Been, there, tried (almost all of) that, and that turned what shoulda been a relaxed post-work-evening into fretting. Will check again after work today if anything changed. Note the very helpful steam support replies of "we can see that you successfully logged in, so we assume this problem is solved". The logging in part was never the problem, steam...

Fingers crossed it was just some Chinese NY sale mess-up.

With a reformated computer and newly installed windows hmm... hmmm....
what about other software installed. Antivirus comes to mind as a prime suspect. Then maybe rootkits installed by the anticheat sofftware of some games? Was anything installed on the freshly formated PC other than steam? Did you install steam freshly downloaded or just moved over old backup files? Maybe try that again and rule out it is any other software interfering.

Could it be a temporary internet/routing problem? You'd think your #10 would rule that out, but I'm not too sure if everything you find via google that offers VPN for free, maybe even without software installed, actually works like a true VPN. Just name what you used, and which country you tried to go over with the VPN (maybe steam has banned that VPN?) and someone will probably be able to confirm that it should be fine to rule out it is your internet connection.

I could see settings made within your router interefering. Probably worth it to try factory reset that.

The only other thing left behind then I could imagine in some way or another would be someone else having taken control over your steam account and maybe having found a way to automatically re-log when someoen kicks your session out by logging in from another place, thus kicking you out again instantly? Probably not the case when the password wasn't changed... but who knows. Your steam profile looks normal. Have any steam friends received any messages from your account?

The thread linked by IronKnightAquila though makes me think, it is a steam side issue and will resolve once Valve identifies the problem.
Hey hey the suspicion that only large libraries are affeced makes me worry now... better not logging off^^ Also someone replied "same here, both windows pc and steam deck unable to start" which seems to be a very clear indication that is not something that you personally could fix.
HOWEVER, you could confirm this theory by logging in the steam account of a friend with a small library (or in a newly created account)!

I had that a couple of days ago, i could login family members accounts weirdly, clear as much of your steam files (not your games offcourse) and not steam.exe, then just run steam.exe it will redownload your files, and you should be able to logon.

Not took me 12 hours but 12 minutes to figure that one out. :p

Send a ticket, bump thread all you can do I guess.

At this point reading the posts it seems perfectly clear there is nothing users can do on their end.
I can log in. Still, I am just actually curious why valve is taking so long to fix or acknowledge the problem.

Yup, did that already. Actually made a ticket before noticing there was a thread for that.
Support gave a first reply fast (< 1h), then no news from them since I told them their suggested fix didn't work.
