I'm not far in the game but I think I'm too much of a hoarder (it's the same in every game xD). Should I sell all silver up to iridium and only process anything normal to get the most money or process everything I get my hands on? Everything in shops seems so pricey to me! I didn't even change my fishing rod and I'm already at 10 skill lol

Make alcohol. Seriously a wine farm will have you rolling in cash in no time.

Look up how the skill trees are in the game, and plan accordingly. For example I loved the idea of creating artisan goods, and turns out they also have a really high % bonus on it with one of the skills. Like you can just go around, make / buy barrels, farm each season's most expensive vegetable / fruit and then make wine / juice en masse and only care about most of the farm every few days only.
Farming and crafting makes a LOT of money, just be careful not to overstretch yourself (like watering your farm with basic can that takes up your whole day is everything but fun). And kind of important: the game doesn't have a fixed end, so you can just take your time with everything :)

Thank you for your suggestions :) I appreciate that! My issue is that in the first two years (that's how far I am lol) I have a hard time getting money to buy more things (like house upgrade, barn etc). I have a coop with just two chickens and I turn the eggs into mayo but I keep some for the future when I have a kitchen. Is it better to make stuff into meals then sell or raw ingredients (or made into jelly/wine etc) would be better?
I don't expect a thorough answer, but I got hooked up and I just like rambling about this game, hehe.
Oh, and I do have wiki open to check a lot of stuff but some are more like long-time strategy that's better to get from experienced players :D

I think cooking doesn't give much extra if at all, but mayo and such is always an extra. Preservation jars (makes pickles / jelly, best from numerous but cheap vegetables, like pepper, beans, berries) and barrels (makes fruit juice / wine / beer, use the most expensive you have) are the big moneymakers. I tried not to go too hard on the calculations parts, but in general you have to balance around having enough money to buy what you want, and use that money to buy something that will help you make money, and you having energy for it. Lots of cheaper vegetable may net you more than few of the more expensive ones. Barrels and such cost money and resources, but they can be used indefinitely as a multiplier to the value of your products.
Don't overstretch on the animals, they are fun to have, but they cost a lot compared to how much money they give.

I agree with everyone elses answer. It took me a couple seasons to even start farming because everything was so expensive and difficult. I'm also a hoarder, but crafting a lot of chests can help with the hoarding. When I first started I pretty much sold all my crops as is. When you are able to craft kegs then you'll have a lot of money in whine and juice :)
If you can't afford crops, then fishing is another good way to make money at the beginning of the game!
Just take your time because the game is endless so you don't have to rush your farming :)

Good stuff, I am actually honing my C# skills to develop some mods for the game. Have you tried mods?

Well there are some aesthetic ones and some that change mechanics and add romance possibility to other NPCs. If you ever do a second playthrough I recommend you installing aesthetic ones since it helps refreshing the whole experience. There are full recolor mods, architecture style changing mods, and my favorites, the ones adding new dogs for you to choose. You can even change the animals into Pokemons if that is your thing.
I haven't tried mods that change mechanics but the most downloaded ones are the ones that modify fishing, for some reason people do not like vanilla fishing. And well if you wanted to romance someone who wasn't available in vanilla you can change that too.
All you need is here:

Depends what you define as an end. It has an evaluation (I didn't get to that part yet) but from what I understand you continue afterwards as well. I'd say it's like Skyrim :P You do the main quest and then you can continue forward with regular dungeoning (farming/fishing/mining etc in SV) and random quests (there is a task board of sorts that have 1 quest per day (not every day, though, it's random)).

Thanks, that gives me some idea about the game. I tend to go into games blind, i.e. without reading any reviews or sometimes even description - which sometimes benefits the experience (like Life is Strange) and sometimes makes me miss stuff (like that stupid Chatterbox achievement in Tomb Raider). But overall I think the less I know about the game, the better. :-)

There is a community center in the game that has you gather crops and supplies to restore it. That takes a while and is what I would consider one of the main goals in the game. The second main goal is getting a perfect evaluation. Once you beat those two things then it's kind of considered beaten. You can also level up all your skills to the max. The game is endless though so you can keep going afterwards if you are addicted like me :P
The great thing about the game is that you can turn it on, play a little, then turn it off again. It can be very addicting but it's also relaxing and you can stop and start anytime.

Same here. Since the game runs on a day/night cycle, it's easy for me to play one or two days and then get off. The game saves after you go to bed for the day. A normal day in Stardew Valley is 17 minutes in real time. You can go to bed earlier though if you don't have 17 minutes to play. That's just how long before your character passes out. Hope that helps :)

You can only play for 17 minutes of real time before you have to sleep? How do you explore, then? Bring a tent?
Comment has been collapsed.
It seems very fast at first because there is so much to do. Once you've played for a while you'll have more skills, resources, and practice to perfectly balance out your time. One year in the game is about 25 hours average.
Sadly you can't bring a tent :P in fact I would recommend not to pass out outside because it leads to consequences.

Oh wow...that game is definitely not for me. I can spent 17 minutes simply re-organizing inventory. :p

I know how you feel. When I first started I had no idea what I was doing or how to get started. What are you specifically having a problem with?
I know a lot of people start farming right away, but I actually took a season or two to just memorize the world, bond with NPCs, and explore. It made it feel less daunting when I had to start balancing out my time with farming and other activities.

Exactly. I have no idea what my priorities should be and what I should focus on. I feel like I am way too pressured by the ticking clock. I guess that I could look up some guides but I rarely do that because I really like exploring everything the game has to offer on my own. But then again, not sure where to start from in this case.

I know how you feel. Reading guides helped me, but I understand you wanting to go in blind. The first thing you should do is stop worrying about the clock. The game is endless, so it's okay to take your time. The seasons will always loop around again in the next year :)
To start, I think you should chop down some trees and then craft some chests. It's easy to find wood and you can stock items that you'll need for quests or crafting later.
After that, I just explored the area and talked to NPCs. It's good to know where everything is. If you want to start farming, you can buy crops from the shop. You can sell items or fish to get some money for seeds. Make sure that you read how long it takes for the crops to grow and that you are planting them in the right season!
You can also explore the mines. There are a lot of crafting materials down there to help get you started. I think I spent most of my time down there when I started instead of farming, because it was more fun.
Oh, also it's very important that you watch the television every morning. It will tell you what the weather will be like tomorrow, if the spirits are in a good mood (thats for mining) , and you might get tips about the game or cooking recipes. It's definitely helpful.
If you have any specific problems/questions then I'd love to help! As far as what to do in your first days, I say just explore and discover that for yourself. You can't fail or run out of time, so explore the world and try new things.
It's very late here so sorry if none of that made since. If you do decide to read a guide, I found a really good one here that will probably explain things much better then I did :P

Having about 250~ hours into the game, I can say I love it! There is always something to do. Also, if everything goes well, in about a month there will be a massive update adding coop, multiplayer as well as new content for the single player. Can't wait. :)

Congrats! I started the game and spent a lot of time talking to the townspeople but didn't get into the main game. Will try it again eventually...
On a somewhat related note, I just beat Outlast 2 from start to finish this weekend which I think is somewhat of an accomplishment for myself.

Well I am kinda biased to survival horror, but yes, I did enjoy. The story was ehh but parts of the game reminded me of some decent horror movies at times, such as The Hills Have Eyes and The Descent. Especially considering it only took about 6 hours, didn't feel like a chore to play/finish.

Yes, very similar to the first with the hiding and whatnot. I still kinda wished for a shiv or knife or something to at least stealth kill enemies and remain undetected. Most of the areas are more open which allows you to run away in most scenarios. Enemy blocks your path? Just run back the way you came and then come back and they have moved on. More or less a rinse repeat for any encounter.

Is it that very hard to get a perfect evaluation? I'm worried a bit as I don't want all that time to go to waste xD
Btw, I don't want an answer that I need that and that, just a basic feeling if a newbie can get a good grade or you'd need some experience before you can get it that high :)
OH, and good nigh! :)

Grandpa's evalutation is based off a point system dependent on things you accomplished in the game. The more points you get, the better the evaluation. It will take a while to get a perfect evaluation because you have to do a lot in the game. It's not hard at all, just time consuming.
After his first evaluation, you can get another one anytime, so you aren't timed or anything :)

Gratz for "beating". The game is really enjoyable !
Also thanks for GA's :)

Nice! I played it non-stop back in 2016, and I still have more time in Stardew Valley than any of the other games in my library. Just waiting for the multiplayer update so I can jump back in!

....okay you can't actually beat the game. I did complete the community center and get my dead grandpa's approval though.
I really enjoyed the game so I decided to give away a little gib to celebrate.
Not Stardew Valley
