I'm trying to get my girlfriend into gaming and I'm looking for local co-op games that would interest her. She's into fantasy and sci-fi (mostly fantasy) and she really likes just... being able to slaughter everything in her path. For example she really likes For Honor and the entire aspect of just trying to smash someone into pieces lol but that's a difficult one to get into.

If possible, no shooters, 1st person, or horror games. Something on the simpler side fitting for a non-gamer, nothing that would require a lot of reading either. The ones that I've heard of only that I think might be what I'm after are Vikings: Wolves of Midgard and Victor Vran, but I don't even know if those are any good.

Any recommendations are appreciated! :)

What about Trine games? also check For the King, but this one may be too hard >_<
Magicka is a funny game too if she like to smash people into pieces

Magicka's camera design is an utter disaster, though. That game was an amazing frustration to play in multiplayer, since the camera range was too small and kept dragging other players around [eg, into traps]. Not sure if that got adjusted in the second game or not.

If you've got a PS2 era console, or are willing to use an emulator, the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance / Champions of Norrath games by Snowblind are probably the best local co-op games I've ever played. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel utilizes the same engine, but is less well received. The Hunter: Reckoning console game series is also somewhat similar in mechanics and style, though perhaps a bit less polished.

On PC, Icewind Dale and the Trine series are highly recommendable for co-op [though I'm not sure about their having couch co-op, if that's what you mean by local]. Snowblind also did Lord of the Rings: War in the North, so that's a consideration, though it doesn't play anything like their previous console games.

Oh I've actually played Champions of Norrath a bunch on my old ps2 but I'd have to see how interested she'd be in old graphics haha

I don't know Vikings, but I would recommend Victor Vran. It's pretty approachable for a new gamer--no huge skill tree to worry about: skills are tied to weapon-types, and you can freely change weapons, outfits, and demonic powers on the go. You can cut through hundreds of monsters on easy mode, or crank up the difficulty with "hexes" or permadeath. It still has one of the highest play-times in my library despite my not being able to play for over 2 years due to a series of bugs with the Mac version. (The Windows version is still fine as far as I can tell.)

I would also recommend Crypt of the Necrodancer, though that's more like speed chess set to a beat so I'm not sure it would be her style.

Divinity Original Sin (1 & 2) have coop. There's a bit of reading/listening since it's an RPG. If you just want to mindlessly kill things without talking to a lot of NPCs and doing quests, try Torchlight 2.

Eon Altar (cool RPG)
The Cave (co-op platformer, very funny and not too hard)
The Deadly Tower of Monsters (a really fun co-op game reminiscent of old scifi B movies but hilariously parodic)
HeartZ: Co-Hope Puzzles (a little gem of co-op platforming)

Or for something a little less underrated, pretty much every LEGO game. The Star Wars, LOTR and Indiana Jones games topping them all but the Lego Movie, and the Marvel and DC titles are also a lot of fun to play co-op. You won't get bored and they're not too hard for a newbie.

Darksiders Genisis is something I havent played much of yet, but its next on my list to play co op with my friend.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is another good one. I played it ages ago, and I found it fun.

If you dont mind local co op instead of couch co op, then Portal 2 is amazing. Its first person, but not a shooter so it should be fine. Quick reflexes not needed. Very girlfriend friendly.

Torchlight 2 is another good one with local co op.

Aragami was not very polished, but I would still recommend it. It was fun while it lasted.

Orcs must die is co op tower defense. Sanctum 2 is better, but that one is FPS.

And finally, Spiral Knights was fun. Its online MMO style, but you can just play it together. Fun graphics and very fun gameplay. Gets grindy towards the end.
