You must discuss this with the sender.
However, if the gift code has been viewed by you, it is considered used and the sender cannot request a re-roll.

If such an icon is displayed when you check the prize from the sender, it is too late.

Unless it's a new rule, you can still request a re-roll even if the key has been revealed, as long as the gift creator is OK with it.

I think I've seen something before about not being allowed to do this once the key has been published, but in what case would such a decision be made?

I think I saw it somewhere in a story about concern over the act of ungentlemanly keys being used or sold....

In any case, if there are unavoidable circumstances, it is still important to take care not to apply for the wrong gift so as not to add to the support effort.
Perhaps that is what it is.

We usually inform the winner about the potential risk that the key was activated and ask if they still want the reroll. It is all too common that winners only realize that they already have the game after trying the key. In my experience, they are honest about it and don't use the key otherwise in the vast majority of cases.

Well...perhaps you are right.
I heard something like this about 3 weeks ago that stuck in the corner of my memory for a bit.
Thank you for your reply.(*p'Θ'q)…💡

BTW, definitely do not select "Not Received" as that something entirely different that you select when the giveaway creator has failed to deliver the game.

P.S. Welcome to SteamGifts! 😁

A couple times in the past I've asked the giveaway creator to do a reroll and left a message in the comments of the giveaway that reroll is ok with me (so the mods/staff who process requests can see you are ok with reroll). The reroll was approved in those cases.

Best practice is don't enter giveaways you don't want, but sometimes it's possible to buy a game that's on sale and shortly thereafter win, or sometimes enter something that you already have on another platform like Gog, Epic, or Xbox, etc.

Yeah, I greatly overestimate my capacity to play games. Many games sound like they'd be fun to play, but there's just not time. They're making more every day too - so we'll never catch up. lol..

Yes, there is no reason to keep a game that you don't think you will play that someone else can enjoy. Like others have said, just leave a comment on the giveaway saying that you changed your mind and ask if they can request for a new winner. Do not mark the giveaway as received or not received. When support processes the re-roll request, a new winner will be chosen and the giveaway will disappear from your account.

There are not many support members and they are busy, so it may take a while, but as long as you do not mark the giveaway as received or not received, it will not show on your account as a win.

Looks like you already have the game in your Steam library (assuming it was the first game you won - Amnesia: The Dark Descent). If you have already activated the key, you cannot undo it and therefore should mark it as received. Or did you mean that you won another game and haven't revealed the key yet? BTW, winning a game less than a day after joining SG is really impressive! Even if it was a group giveaway. Grats! Additionally, you can't enter a giveaway for a game that is already in your library.

Ah, ok... I had suspected there might have been another game that you won, but I wasn't sure based on how much was written when I posted my comment. So my apologies. But yeah-- if you won a game that you ended up not wanting, post a comment in the giveaway you won in and ask the gifter to request for a reroll. Just be sure you have not viewed the key before doing so.

Also, veebles posted the FAQ's link just below if you need to look it over.

Welcome to SG, BTW!

it happened to me to win a game I didn't want so I ask for rerolling without looking at the key or mark as not received.

This is how our conversation went

thank you very much for this giveaway but the problem is that I entered because I had a lot of points and I didn't want to lose them but I forgot to leave the giveaway before it ended, could you please do a reroll.

   Ok, I will.

   sorry for the inconvenience caused

   No worries
