I'm currently using an i7 6700 (non K), 16gb ddr4 3600 RAM and a gtx 1060 6gb.

Looking to upgrade to a better GPU for ~450 eur budget but I'm not sure what would be best.
I've heard people saying 1080 TI, 2060 super, rx 5700 xt etc.
Could anybody tell me what would be the best upgrade for me currently?

I play all sorts of games all at 1080p.

edit: Thanks so much for your replies! As mentioned a couple times I think I indeed will wait for new products to launch. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply to my question! Very much appreciated <3

edit (i wrote this as a new comment): Bumping it again because the card is now actually dead. Artifacting is constant now so I kinda need an upgrade now :X What I'm looking at now is the Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT PULSE or the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC 3X White 8G.
Both are about 430eur. I use a 1080p TV and play mostly games like Diablo 3, Souls games but also VR like boneworks. Leaning towards the 2060 super because of the issues I'm reading about AMD cards right now. Thoughts?

FINAL EDIT: Bought the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse for 409 euro.
Truly final edit: Loving this GPU! Super silent, cool and so much faster than my 1060!

Best to wait for the new cards this year, especially from AMD. The current cards available just aren't worth the investment, since they're not nearly as good as the ones that'll come out but also not much better than the ones that came before (like the 1060). Also it's a good idea to wait for the release of ps5 and xbox series x to see how the latest pc hardware will compare.

At this point I wouldn't get anything without support for hardware based ray tracing as that will likely be something that devs double down on this next console gen

Wait until at least June when the new nVidia cards drop. Current generation prices will drop.

If you simply cannot wait, you can't go wrong with the 2060 Super at 1080p. The regular 2060 is over 50% faster than the 1060, and the 2060 Super is closer to 75% faster than the previous generation's offering.

Soo uuummm, I can trade some potatoes for your current GPU, win win

A used 1080Ti is a way to go nowadays.

Also very overpowered for 1080p gaming in my opinion. If OP wants to keep it for a while, I guess it'll work out, but a 1080 Ti still maxes 1440p games today.

Trust me, it's not if you aim for 144 fps.

A 1660 Super should be sufficient for most titles where you need 144Hz, eg first person shooters, and give plenty of FPS in AAA titles. I don't think you need 144 FPS in a regular AAA RPG, but you might think otherwise. It's ultimately up to OP to decide, the money saved on a cheaper graphics card might be better spent elsewhere.

Because of the pandemic you may never know when the new releases will be and how many will be supplied.
So say prices will rise.
So even waiting for a better GPU is a viable option you should also consider you might neeed to wait too long.
Yet 1060 is a good one and I hardly believe you really need to change to a new GPU (except for extremely better graphics)

I just bought 5700 xt and I would not buy it if my dad di not ned a new GPU.
I could play anything with medium graphics with my R9390
I think 1060 is almost gives the same graphic power.

I ordered a Nvidia RTX 2060 Super to replace my aging GTX 970. I am a 1080p gamer, as well and the boosts look to be worth it.

I also have a 1060 6GB, and I wouldn't even bother upgrading to anything less then a 2070 Super. There are still very few games you'll have problems maxing out at 1080p/60fps on your current card, so just wait until the next generation of cards come out (nvidia is looking like they'll need to massively drop prices due to strong competition from the new consoles and AMD, plus raytracing is supposed to get huge boosts to performance).

AMD 5700XT or NVIDIA 2070 or 2060 Super are viable options.

I would absolutely get a Sapphire Nitro+ 5700 XT. No other model.

a used 1080 or 1080 ti would do just fine. but i doubt they will be that cheap to get.

a 1660 super should be the last gpu you'll ever need for 1080p gaming.
or a 2070 super if you want to burn all that money.

if you can wait that long nvidia will bring new gpus later this year so prices could drop a lot when that happens.

why are you upgrading?
@1080p you should be getting 60FPS almost all the time
all the cards you listed are good but it depends on your needs and budgets
so unless you really need 60 FPS on max settings doom now, i would say wait for the next gen or later.

Are your temps ok? Msybe a thermal paste and thermal pads change will give new life to your card.

Temps idle are around 40c and under load it gets up to 80 but usually 72 ish. I've already cleaned it and put on new thermal paste. Also underclocked it which reduces it somewhat but games are unplayable. Drivers aren't the issue either. The card is just dead.

Bad luck with that then, usually temperatures are the ones to blame when artifacting appears in most cases, but maybe your card has been under extreme stress for too long. As you can not wait for new cards to be released your best bet will be a 2060 super as others have said.

I'd absolutely go with the 2060 super in that case. Even putting AMDs driver issues aside, the 2060 Super supports raytracing while the 5700 doesn't, and raytracing will be getting pushed hard by game devs as soon as the new consoles are out.

I just bought RX 5700 XT (XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra 8G for 365€ +-) as upgrade from RX 580 (which is +- same as GTX 1060). But i have 1440p 144Hz display, so i need higher performance and this graphic should be twice better than my curently GPU (RX580). Why i decided now?
Due Coronavirus our currency / € droped very hard, so price can increase, new GPU which should be released at Q4 could be delayed and i dont want wait any longer (i will probably buy high end when they realease it and sell this GPU) and overall price can go higher when this all ends. Another reason is incoming Valve Index :D
btw, RX 5700XT should be compared with RXT 2070 (Super)

both are fine cards, and would max everything at 1080p
not sure about VR performance, and driver issues should be resolved (or will)
you get more FPS going 5700xt ,2060 has RTx and video encoding features (if you stream)
