As the topic title said, I never used such program, but I am interested in picking up some cards but don't have balls to download all the games (slow internet)

So, can I be banned just for running the program or is it safe?
Note: some of the games are VAC secured.

And no, I am not using it to unlock achievements.

Thanks in advice

I have no idea what sam is but I've used textmode for the games that supported it (mostly valve only) to farm the cards.

Yes. VAC is only active while game is runinning and connected to VAC-server.
VAC is also based on signatures and would reguire that they specifically target it.

I wish people were as well knowing as you are about how VAC works. Can't tell you how many people are retarded enough to think something like SAM would get you a VAC ban and post such stupid nonsense here.

I use it for most of mine without problems. Just don't run it while games are active if you want to be safe for certain. I've played a few games while running it myself, but nothing with cards or VAC themselves.

Why on Earth do you want to do that? You only need to run the game until you unlock the initial amount of card drops (so e.g. 4/8), that will require about 2 hours per game. For booster packs you only need to log in to Steam.

Because for some users, downloading just to farm the cards right away isn't an option. I have a 75GB datacap which prevents me from downloading everything, and some users just have crap internet.

What's about my 13 GB? At least 10 MBPS and free steam download (free internet sites :D)

2MBPS =/= 2MB/s
2MBPS = ~250kb/s

Yeah, the 1.2MB/s is my speedtest.net speed. I can load web pages pretty well, but anything else, like YouTube videos, buffer really slowly on anything above 480p... >_<

My average download speed on Steam is about 150Kb/s. :(

No, you're wrong, 2Mbps = ~250kB/s, as 1B = 8b

Because some games with cards have huge file sizes that take a while to download, not good for those will low bandwidth limits. Also, if you're only downloading the game for the cards, it seems kinda pointless to download, idle for a couple hours, and then uninstall.

I play games for fun. I don't understand people buying games/bundles just to get stupid cards.

You can buy more games by selling them obviously. If you already have the games, you might as well take advantage of it.

I sometimes buy a bundle for a single game and several have cards. Even if I am not going to play them I might as well take the cards.

I'm completely against these type of programs for the obvious reasons (tbh, all this prolly shouldn't even be mentioned in SG either)

But I do have friends with low download speed & this program is their savior to get the card drops out of the way. At the same time though knowing they use it does give a flare of distrust that they are legit gamers.

This. Most likely allowed, but still frowned upon.

It's not "allowed", per se. But it is safe since they don't really monitor it, at all.

Dont use SAM to farm games like tf2 and cs and you should be fine. Really just avoid any online multiplayer games when using SAM. The chances of anything happening to your account arent likely, but stay on the safe side.

Also you cant multi-idle games anymore, so make sure you're only doing it one at a time.

You can still multi-idle, at least with normal Steam. But while you used to get twice the card drops in the same ammount of time when you run two games at a time, you now still only get the normal ammount of cards.. guess this doesn´t make any sense explained like that, so lets make it more clear:

Past: Run ONE game to get ONE card every 30 minutes - Run TWO games, get TWO cards every 30 minutes.
Now: Run ONE game to get ONE card every 30 minutes - Run TWO games, get ONE card every 30 minutes.

The important part opposed to "can´t multi-idle" is, that you can still fire up multiple games when you are AFK for serveral hours.. when you return, you will have collected all carddrops for multiple games instead of just one.

In my experience this works well for up to three games at a time.. with more than three it sometimes worked for me, but sometimes I suddenly only got like 1 card every 2 hours or even none at all..
In addition to that, running a game without card-drops side-by-side with one that still drops, halves the ammount of cards per hour.. so instead of one card every 30 minutes, you´ll get only one per hour.

As mentioned before, that all is with the normal steam client, I have no experience if SAM acts any different.

Thanks a bunch!
Didn't even know about this. Now I can get the without downloading the games.
I'll just keep on downloading and ideling the games with VAC just to be on the safe side.

Download TF2 its F2P so everybody have access to it. In TF2 folder find steam_appid txt file and open it with notepad. Change the number you see there with the appid number of the game you want to run (for example Vanguard Princes http://store.steampowered.com/app/262150/ the number is 262150). Then save the changes and run the TF2 with its icon in the folder not via Steam client. Error message should pop up which is good. Just leave the error message and you have successfuly fooled Steam client that you are running Vanguard Princess and in couple of hours you will collect all the cards. Of course you must own the games you want to run this way. No need for SAM and such... Also works with other Valve games like HL2 or DoDS.

I have used SAM to farm cards for many games without problems. But I haven't used SAM on VAC enabled games or online only games like MP games. So not sure if you will get your game deleted or account locked by being detected by VAC.

I have used SAM for most of my farming. However, I will never play a game with SAM running. Not even a small game without VAC servers.

I'm still problem-free

Yes, it is safe. Even for VAC secured games. However, I'd advise against using it on a game while in a VAC-protected server on that same game.

Yea SAM is safe, I never use SAM to get achievments, I use it to farm cards, a lot of times, i'm to lazy to download a HUGE game and im probably never going to play just for cards, so I use SAM. As long as you dont use it for achievments ur fine.
