Bad week, bad mood, woke up with an idea which I hope will cheer me up! Let's go.

The idea is Mutual Whitelist Giveaway (MWG is short) which goes like this:

1) A person (this time it's me) creates a whitelist giveaway for a premium game. Premium games mush have at least 2 of the following properties:

  • High review score on steam (very positive or more) or another reputable aggregator site
  • "Objectively" popular currently - http://steamcharts.com/ shows average of 500+ players
  • Popular on steamgifts (this can be evident of course by the number of people entering the GA of this game) - must have 2K+ entries

2) The whitelist is generated from people that comment with their own whitelist GA which include the OP - that's the mutual part- this can be any game, crappy or not, but it shows good will toward the creator of the premium giveaway.

3) The number of people for the premium giveaway should be limited (my suggestion is 100) so people know they have a good chance to get it. When the MWG reaches its limit the discussion should be closed immediately(!) (because you don't want people to create a GA for nothing).

So I've done some searches and came up with a good game with a great score, popular here (see example here ) and on steamcharts - Besiege!

If this is successful I will create another MWG!

Because this is the first MWG you can ask any questions you like and I hope that this post will be used later to address newly created MWGs.
Please do not spam this topic with hate, inflammatory comments or nonsense - it will get you blacklisted.

And now for the first ever MWG!
http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/PTGZm/besiege

:)

EDIT:
This is clearly not going well. I thought of this idea as a backlash to all the topics I've been seeing recently like -
"help me expand my blacklist"
"who wants to get blacklisted!"
"who should I blacklist now?"
etc'
I wanted something positive, people whitelisting people and getting nice games. But I guess I'm not notable enough here (no credibility as one of you said)
to get this idea running. So I'm closing this thread and deleting the GA for now. Thanks to the people who gave me tips and didn't straight up called me a schemer, because that wasn't my intention at all.

Not really the same :)

actually it would be the same. whitelists act like a steam group. the only difference is they don't have a page on steam. if i'm missing something, please tell me so.

The best part of whitelist is that one does not have to create a group to target specific people. But technical they act as the same on the site.

In MWG the whitelist is dynamic, you don't need to manage a group to create it - just check see who whitelisted you in their GA in your discussion and WL them back so they can participate in your GA.

And besides, I don't want to manage a group currently.

I don't want a dynamic whitelist which is why I don't like this idea. I mean I add or remove people sometimes but I don't want to muck about with it every giveaway I do.

I wish you the best and this idea may well suit some people. But I'm out. I'm absolutely among the people thinking 'just do a group'.

I can see your point, for people with an already established whitelist this can be a hassle. I wish there was a whitelist manager in this site (like using a simple textual based to mass add/remove people).

Maybe in the near future, if this idea goes well I will create a group designed around mutual whitelists but I think it'll be a hassle as well.

It seems like you didn't understand how this works, please read carefully. Thank you.

Hm, interesting idea. I would've tried it but my whitelist is still too short. I don't think 6 hours would be enough for the people on it to be able to see it. D:

You're right, and that's why I've contacted support to change it to 24H. Thank you for the input!

Is it me or does it smell like a pyramid scheme?

Don't take it te wrong way but i find it odd when people try to start groups/do other stuff before they actually do some giving away, it just looks suspicious to me.

Agreed actually, but I understand it could also just be a way to get others to do giveaways of their own too.

How is that a pyramid scheme?
First off the OP creates a high-profile GA, all the other comments can create much lower quality in return.
Secondly, the OP won't be whitelisted in the future if the commenter doesn't want him/her.
Thirdly, the mutually created GAs don't guarantee the OP will win them.

In so far that the OP get into a lot of GA with more chances than usual - that's correct. He is giving away a good game in return. No one is being scammed and doesn't know what he is in for. I don't see any scheme here.

Because OP by creating single GA have chance to enter few quick GA with high chance of winning?

It's not like i doubt your good intentions but IMO one should gain some credibility in community before starting doing "events" right after joining, hence my post.

Credibility is important - you can see that I've given away 2 games and won 2 games. You can also check my inventory to see the game is there:

sorry to break it to you, but 2 bundled games given away means next to nithing when talking GA groups whitelists etc. And noone is saying you don't have Besiege to give away, we are just saying that you pretty much want access to 100 whitelists GAs in exchange for creating just 1 and with no rfeal credibility on site yet, so with no chance to get into actuasl groups or whitelists otherwise.

You can see that I'm pretty new so to hold me to a high standard is your choice, it doesn't mean I'm not to be trusted. Credibility is a subjective measure - for sure there are much more credible people than me, but there are also people who didn't give away anything or had done giveaway without sending the gifts, I'm didn't do those things plus I'm on SG for only 2 months.

As for getting access to 100 GAs - you forget that I'm the only one who promise a premium game, I know that doesn't entirely tip the scales but it does matter. No one is getting duped because they're entering a high chance, high-caliber game, and can give a crappy game in return.

I say that getting access to 100 GAs with high chance of winning, no matter their quality, for the price of a single indie game, good one, but cheap one, is a pretty goodamn good deal for you. and it does look exactly like any piramid scheme ever created.

If it is a pyramid scheme it isn't well thought through.

If I read right the OP lets up to 100 people enter his Beseiged giveaway in return for them including him in any whitelist giveaway. Which is statistically a big win if he gets invited to 100 decent giveaways as most whitelist giveaways have less than 100 entries.

On the other hand he could get whitelisted for 100 giveaways of bundle games or just a handful of decent games. Or even just 2 giveaways for 'Victim of Xen' which is maybe more likely given that he only has a 6 hour giveaway.

See this in regard to time: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/sKyC3we

Like you said, people can get him WL for crappy games, he is the only one that must adhere to the premium game rules I've stated in my post.

I did notice. I was just assuming it wasn't going to happen. Hopefully I'm wrong and being unfair to support - but in my experience they aren't very good at reacting to things in 6 hours or less.

Should I wait like an hour or so and then delete it and create a new one with more time?

Forever? :O
I still don't have much experience with GA as you can see, so any info would be welcomed. Thank you.

Yes forever, if you do to much deleting without delivering you will loose ability to create giveaways and will have to contact support and pray they will restore it :P
As of now I THINK you have 4 GA slots so if you delete this one you will have 3 (meaning you can have 3 GA open/not received at the same time)

I believe it is to cut down on people 'trolling' users with fake giveaways and the like. You will still get more slots as you contribute more and if you have a really good reason you may be able to get more slots from support. But it still isn't a good idea to delete giveaways apart from as a last resort.

One other thing maybe worth mentioning. I have found even simple puzzles at this time on a weekday aren't going to get many 'bites' in six hours. Over 24 hours you at least give everyone the chance to get online, but for something like this that many people are going to be dubious about and also need a game available to participate - I'd maybe give it at least 2-3 days if you want a decent number of entries.

Another option is to just let it run and end with 0 entries. I don't think you will lose a slot then.

So if I comment here with a whitelist only giveaway you will add me to your whitelist? Or I have to add you first? That is the real question

Good question! I think this should fall on the OP side - so you just post a GA link, check that you're whitelisted and only then respond with whitelisting the OP.
