I always thank the giveaway creator but I also try to write something non-generic and depending on the description of the giveaway but I also don't enter as many giveaways anymore and even less with higher number of entries.
If I get blacklisted for writing a comment in the giveaway....so be it.

Well, for starters, welcome back :)
As for the comments, personally I try to avoid clogging up people's inbox unless I have something meaningful to say about the GA, or a personalized comment because I'm friendly with the gifter.
As for after winning, I always leave a comment but when making public GAs, I'm not holding my breath for a thanks even after the win has been activated. Usually ends in a blacklist because I don't like being treated like a pez dispenser but hey they got their game, what do they care?

(EDIT: I misunderstood the topic, it was just about thanks from participants, while I mean the thanks from the winners.)
There is a little difference between commercial giveaways with 1000s of keys for one GA and private GA, where an individual took his time to select a game, spare his key, to create the GA while also waiting for a winner.
If the winner has time to mark a gift or key as received, he should also have the time to write a "thanks" to acknowledge the work.
Not every GA is made just to farm CV, since many GA creators know, that they will not reach the next level in the near future.

I've started here 8 years ago when on every giveaway was the usual "Thanks for Skyrim" comment... but haven't visited here for 6 years. Today I stumpled upon this site again and looked back in and it was a wave of nostalgia. So much so that I created a bunch of giveaways to celebrate it. But It really seems that the "community " isn't as engaging as it used to? For example right now there was a giveaway with 1000+ entries and only 1 comment saying thanks. Even on my giveaways, 300= entries and only 1 comment. When I look at my older giveaways I had at least 209 comments on a 1000+ giveaway or 125 comments on a 500 entry giveaway. I'm not saying this out of petty attention seeking, just something I found to be a little bit sad, but I guess that's how it always goes. Enjoy the giveaways I created :)
