So today after finishing portal 2 coop with a friend of mine that i know IRL i went on and bought ,along with him, a copy of Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing ... i saw " coop " in the game section and so i jumped the gun and tought " the game has in-built coop then ! " . Well , no. The game it's singleplayer only and only lasts some hours but that aside thinking that the fact that makes the game "coop" are some user-made workshop maps is ridiculous.... every game i saw with the " coop " tag had a coop campaign or mode in them, but this one DOESN'T , absolutely ridiculous.
EDIT: I am not questioning the quality of the game, just this one aspect that makes me reconsider my purchase.

You have to be careful with steam purchases-
Co-op officially means 'a mode in which multiple players work together as a team against one or more AI opponents'.
(Competitive Co-Op is a notable subgenre, in which you face off against an AI while still trying to sabotage or out-do your fellow players. Modes where your primary opponent is a player or players, rather than AI, fall under the PvP category, not the co-op category. See: MOBAs.)

Yet, you have people slapping the tag on everything, on steam-

  • Because there's no local multiplayer option, so local co-op is used instead.
  • Because people think team pvp is cooperative, and thus co-op.. nevermind that that definition would make nearly every online FPS game ever made a co-op game.
  • Because people simply don't know what the word means, and thus use it as a substitute for multiplayer.

But really, typically the absolute best way to confirm a game is actually a co-op game, and to evaluate its co-op functionality, is to check the Co-Optimus website and see what it says.

Of course, sometimes they don't list a game.. and that's where it gets stressful, as you dig through vague game descriptions and half-assed reviews, hoping for actual details on the matter. :(

I have no friends so doesn't matter much to me but reading the game description in steam it doesn't say it has Coop campaign only workshop coop so don't think it's that misleading

This is true, it doesn't seem to be misleading in any way that I can see.

so gta san andreas should also say it supports coop because there's a mod to adds multiplayer?

Is that Mod supported by take2? In the console version it had a coop mode

It should be said in the game page that the coop is only available as a "workshop chambers coop".

Other than that, do you recommend it? It's been on my wishlist for a while but I'm not sure if I should buy it because of some bad reviews.

If you are a diehard fan of portal and you are dying for new content than yes, this game is recommended since it's pretty cheap and it's not bad done in the end.... at least.
