Hey guys, I have this little problem. One of my brothers told me he wouldn't use his mini component anymore, so I thought that maybe I could use them as speakers and save some money. I read somewhere that I need to use a 3.5mm-RCA cable, plug the 3.5mm end in my motherboard, and the RCA end in the AUX input. The thing is, I'm not sure if these are the inputs. My other question is, IF these are the aux inputs, what else do I have to do to use them as speakers? Do I need to change some settings or something like that? Because, as far as I know, the only thing this mini component can do is reproduce old tapes, cds, and syntonize the radio (those are the three functions I can toggle by using the remote controller or the front buttons). And this is so old that I can't find info about the model anywhere! Is there anyone here who can answer my questions? Thanks :)

Those do look like the RCA Red and White inputs you want to use. Should work with the cable you described. You said the unit has CD/Tape/Radio? I would think there should be an additional option called AUX or Video or Rear Input. If not just try each of the options and see what happens.

Is your unit something like this?
With a center console and two outside speakers?

Kind of, yeah. I've just fixed the remote controller, by opening it and cleaning it. I'll be trying a few buttons, and I'll upload another couple of photos too. Thanks! :D

Here is a picture of the remote controller. The buttons at the front are for the basic stuff, like changing from am to fm, or go from radio to cd to tapes, volume settings... That kind of stuff.

Ok, I finally figured it out: What's in the back is NOT an aux input, it can only transmit data... There are ways to build an AUX input, but I'm not sure if I'll give em a try :/

Maybe you can post a pic from the front. It would be a lot easier to identify functions it may have. The main question would be are those inputs or outputs...

It had Microphone Ports, those have to be inputs, but they might receive data differently than an AUX, I don't really know. You could use a male to male 3.5mm AUX cable and get a 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter for one end to go in those ports. Try and confirm with someone else though that that would work for what you want...
I also don't know what setting it has to be on for the microphone sound to come through, if any specific one.

Here is an example of the adapter: http://www.amazon.com/eFuture-615136-Quality-Headphone-Adapter/dp/B003VGUGBS/ref=pd_bxgy_23_img_y
