Dragons, nords rebelling, draugurs/wights, city names like whiterun/riverrun, winterfell/windhelm. Played skyrim a while ago, and recently I've watched the first 2 seasons of game of thrones then thought they resemble in some instances, kinda like skyrim was inspired from the game of thrones books. Anyone else who knows both had the same feeling? Do you know any other common characteristics? Discuss

Yeah, I'm ashamed to admit, I know nothing about the books, just the existence of some books in which base the tv series were made.

But the books are quite good... the tv series isn't the best, but could be worse. I did prefer reading the books over watching the series (but I still follow both). You should check it out.

It is just my personal opinion that it isn't the best. Some actors could have been better and stuff like that, but I still think it is good.

Yeah, there's a lot of uninhabited ruins but the dwemer themselves are long gone. One of the guys at the Mages' College manages to recreate what happened to them, some kind of magical disaster.

Dwemer are elves, not dwarves. No such thing as dwarves in TES lore. Dwemer were same size as men and other elves.

i still havent watched game of thrones or read the books for song of ice and fire yet

i hear the books are better then the show so ill probly read it first,

the issue that keeps me from reading the series is the fact the author takes 5 to 6 years to write each book, and there are still 2 more books left till the end of the series.....

and since the last book just came out recently, that means there is 5 more year still the next book and 5 more till the last... this bugs me, and i dont wanna start something ill like, just to have to wait 10 years to finish it

on another note, this isnt true for the manga "one piece" ive been reading one piece manga since the year 2000, and Oda, the author has started there is still 13 more years to one piece before it ends, probly 12 now since he stated that a year ago,

i will always love and enjoy the wait for one piece <3

alot of that genre seems like this. read half(like 8 books) of a series you love and find out it isn't done yet and its probably going to be 4 years until the next one

(for example(know I have better ones but this is the first one i thought of) I read most of wheel of time years ago until I found out how long until the next books and ended up loosing track/forgetting about it until this second when I remember hearing the final book is done now and should pick it up again at some point)

so song of ice and fire is good and should read? the show had been putting me off picking it up. see below comment from deshanrocks

I tried reading the series, but hated it. I thought it must surely make better tv than written story. If the books are better, I don't even want to bother with the TV show. However, I know tons of people who just love the TV show and the books, so it might just be my own personal opinion. Get a copy from the library first to see if you really want to invest the money/time into the books:)

Don't listen to these fools, the books and the show are amazing. There a reason it's THE most pirated TV show.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The show is even more phenomenal when you consider how complex the story is and how many simpler book-to-TV-or-movie conversions were terrible. The adaptation here is just incredible. The show is superior in the sense that it is easier to follow. The books are very dense and it can be difficult to keep track of characters. But the books are better for those capable of following all the different plot lines.

Hmm I cant support with details my thought but i think the most of the games-movies-series-books etc are tend to follow the same name pattern. Something like the names you mentioned above. They put words that sound good in the ear. I can only separate Lords of The Rings where Tolkien had the time to create his own language so he had the imagination to make very unique and epic names.

What about Dothraki language and the one the slave sellsman spoke when Daenerys went to buy herself an army?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm, never looked if there are whole new languages or a part of them just for the moments. As far as i know Tolkien made the Elfish language from some ancient Scottish and English, or something like that, and its one completed language.
Havent played Skyrim but by your mentions looks like they have some similarities

Dont take me wrong, i love Game of thrones series , i have read few pages of the first book too, just made an observation about LoTR, dont mean to demote Game Of Thrones.

That Dothraki bitch bahaha

Both the Dothraki and High Valyrian languages had to be invented for the show. In the books, the foreign words weren't written, save for the few important ones like Khal, Khaleesi, arakh, etc

the region was never really fleshed out though.(except for the stuff that ended up not in skyrim anyway. like wearbears and volkier ect) so the name existed back in arena but

They both ripping off from same source (Nord legends), so it's hard not to look similar.

Like Mac OS and Windows, and Apple suing MS for using same GUI around 1990.
