The moment when I first launches Dreamfall Chapters and found out my all-time favourite protagonist's fate. I mean, I spent 10 years believing that April somehow survived, and then I was just left with protagonists I didn't care about :(

Probably everyone knows this and it's bound to be said but LiS ending with Spanish Sahara song always gets me.

The Scooter quest in BL2: Commander Lilith dlc.
I got emotional as soon as he said ''I gotta catch me a ride to heaven''
But the one that always gets to me is Zack's death in Crisis Core

Have you played the original(?) Metal Gear Solid? I still consider the deaths of Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis to be the saddest moments in the history of gaming. I also cried at the end of Arkham City, during the scene when Batman carries Joker out of that theatre or whenever it took place.
Recently, I've played Do Not Feed the Monkeys and while it didn't make me cry, there was some seriously sad shit going on with the Elevator cage (It's a game about secretly watching people. There's an old man trapped in an elevator, slowly dying of thirst and starvation. You can deduce the needed info to let his wife know about his whereabouts, which leads to him being saved. However, it's also possible to accept a bribe and keep silent about it, in which case the wife is told that you were just joking, the man stays trapped in that elevator and dies. That's cold.)

the ones i remember right now:
metro exodus ending with miller
me3 ending with anderson
tales of the borderlands killing scooter so an unfunny character like ellie could replace him, that's sad
borderlands 3 that part in the entire game where ava doesn't die so it stops being a useless and forced character no one likes, but it seems devs forgot to add it

Someday I'll have the courage to finish Valiant Hearts, that game made me sad not so much for the story itself but rather because of all the tidbits of contextual info that come with the items you find, reading through those made me feel awful.

saddest moment in game history, im gonna have to go with skyrim paid for mods. 200$ for hd horse genitals tho, who could pass up that deal??? we won that battle but lost the war boys!

Beyond Good and Evil. If you've played it, you know the scene. If you haven't, you should.

I remember 3 right now, for me:
1) Unreal - After all you finally escape the planet and then drift aimlessly hoping to be found.
2) Chrono Trigger - The Wings of time ending after everyone says goodbye
3) Modern Warfare 3: When we lost the Soap

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
The ending really tugged at my heartstrings and made me teared up.

i remember some of the puzzles but 100% forgot the entire story to that game. ran into a bug in gliding and died like 20 times.

Adding this: The ending of Pyre. Don't want to spoil anything but at the very end, you'll be forced to make a difficult choice. It's quite sad since I was thoroughly invested in the story and the characters at that point and wanted the best outcome for everyone but it's definitely not the tearing up sort.
I ended up sacrificing my character's own freedom to make sure every one of my team have a shot at a new life

Whole ME3. You were sad either that BW messed up ending of the trilogy, or sad that some character dies and you can't do anything about it.

The three husketeers o7
I'm still salty about whole "ME3 will close all story paths and will tell you what happened" drivel we were fed up while in the end after releasing RGB ending all official channels denied the fact that they promised it to their fans.
I still cringe at the memory of original pre-DLC ending, so many WTF moments. Not that DLC version much better, but at least fixed totally dumb moments.

Same.I mean,we all figured that the PR spiel wouldn't be 100% legit, but nobody could have predicted that EAware would outright tank its top sci-fi franchise like that (or the necrophilia that they would commit with its corpse a few years later...).
The post-ending DLC's were empty fluff at best.Omega was a disappointment for me since I read the comic,Leviathan was interesting but didn't go anywhere in the end,Citadel was...well,fluff and not much else. And all the "Extended Cut" did was add some bells and whistles to the sad joke that was endgame while leaving it fundamentally the same.
sigh Years later, and the whole thing is still depressing.

Leviathan, the day 1 DLC that should have been in the game instead of being DLC.
Citadel was surprisingly fun, but yeah, adds nothing to the main story. Just another excuse to have fun with your story pals.
Too bad they never opted to improve multiplayer, I enjoyed it a lot. Some fixes here and there, and it could have been a great thing.

So what are some sad moments in gaming you ran across?
The moment when I was forced to play video games because the government closed the borders too late and caused the deaths of thousands of people

Since all my main candidates are already mentioned (Life is strange, Bioshock, To the moon, FF7, ME3), here's more.
The ending of Spec ops: The line.
The ending of Shadow warrior, they had surprisingly good story overall.
The ending of SOMA was a bit of sad and infuriating at the same time, unfortunately developers were already 5 years into project and had no resources to fix ending, so they released game as-is.
The ending of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was kinda sad.
The ending of What Remains of Edith Finch was supposed to be sad but was too obvious and it ruined the feeling.
Max Payne dilogy is made of sad, lol. Welcome to noir genre.

For me the way the protagonist behaved in his last act in SOMA was immersion-breaking (you know, the part with bitching, blaming, and not accepting).
The ending in general was fine, just the execution - phrases said, and so on - was bad for me because all the previous "bonding" (if you will) went into a trash bin.
But overall was a great game, I hope their next project will be something similar to SOMA (they work on two projects at the same time now and just announced new Amnesia).

So I was playing Borderlands 3, in the first DLC and came across a random side quest called Heart of Gold. All it was about was a defectve robot that wanted a friend. So you collected the items needed, do what you need and then at the end he says 'I had a nice day.' Made me tear up at that as he genuinely seemed lonely.
So what are some sad moments in gaming you ran across?
