Oh boy, did I wanted to go back and change my decision later in game.
P.S.: Their "thanks for crying" in ending titles for one of the parts was cool as hella-copter.

The ending to his mini-story in Yakuza Kiwami 2 is pretty sad, too.

I found To the moon to be a completely depressing game, I don't recommend it to anyone who doesn't enjoy those kind of games/movies.

To be fair, nothing bad has happened, but story was sad, right?
Nothing like a clusterfuck situations in Bioshock: Infinite ending or Life is strange (depends on your choice for ending though).
But I agree, for some people things like To the moon or Neon Genesis Evangelion/Cowboy Bebop can be too much (yepp, still carrying that weight).

I found Finding paradise lacking, same as A bird story. Both nowhere near the To the moon level.
I hope the new game will be good though, definetely going to buy it full price to support him.
To me Rakuen (made by the composer of To the moon, Laura Shigihara) was more memorable, though not without it's own problems.

It's just a sad story with some nice jokes to cheer you up a while. It was nicely written, but I don't enjoy sad games/movies no matter how good they are.

Theresia: Dear Emile - Pretty much the entire game, but most of all, see below; I have to leave this part as is, because it's funny to me. That's all I'm going to say, because I'm not sure how the spoiler tag works.
You wake up as an amnesiac in this horrifying abandoned bunker with all these traps, gradually remembering your life. The most prominent figure in your memories is a beautiful woman with long, silver hair, who is later revealed to be your adoptive mother. You spend most of the game trying to get out of the bunker, and also trying to find her, and when you finally do, it's her dead body, slumped over a desk. It's sad enough, but within the context of the game and their relationship, it's absolutely hearbreaking.
I'm going to throw in Emilia's story from SaGa Frontier, too; it's maybe not super sad, but it's a beautiful story of a young woman coming of age, and it always gets me emotional, because I am an absolute sucker for these kinds of stories. The game opens with the player learning that she and her fiancee had had a fight; she comes home, thinking all the while how to get past this point in their relationship. As she walks in the house, she sees his dead body in the living room, and a mysterious character dressed like the joker in a deck of cards escaping. Naturally, she gets framed for his murder, and when she gets out of jail due to some weird circumstances, The Joker comes after her. She's saved by an underground resistance group, who will eventually lead her to vengeance, but is primarily focused on fighting a big, evil corporation. At the end, they trace a powerful energy source to a very remote area, so they follow it to a small abandoned church in the middle of nowhere. Emilia remarks that she and her fiancee wanted to get married in a church like this, and the other women in the group ask if she's still carrying her wedding dress; since she is, they help her change into it. The final boss comes down from the rafters, and she destroys it in full wedding gear while the church is in flames (they're still inside), like a total badass. They go outside, and there's Joker, just taunting her; she has him at gunpoint, and he just keeps telling her that she can't do it. The screen goes black, and she pulls the trigger. The adrenaline is finally gone, and she finally just breaks down; she can finally grieve. Once she lets it all out, she just moves on, showing what a strong woman she's become.

Spoiler : In the original Final Fantasy VII, when you see Aeris (Aerith) praying on the platform and gets literally shanked by Sepiroth. She somehow fully dies despite you having a healthy stock of Phoenix Downs. She fought a giant gundamn with lasers, but apparently a sword through the middle of her body is more deadly.

The end scene of Gris made me lose it, I'm not ashamed to say it but I'm a softie.
Even just in The Wolf Among Us, right at the end of the first chapter, when they find Snow's head, it made me so sad, I had to wait a few weeks to keep playing.

LISA (https://store.steampowered.com/app/335670/LISA_The_Painful/) is one sad moment from start to finish. i didn't feel like crying while playing, but it was a definite downer.
Pathologic classic and the remake are both like willingly subjecting yourself to the violent antics of anthropomorphized depression.
i guess Death of the Outsider has my major "okay this makes me upset why is my face wet" moment. it helps if you're overly attached to a certain grumpy character who absolutely deserved redemption and didn't quite get it.

To the Moon
That part when Everything is Alright starts playing, I have never cried as much as when first playing through that segment of the game, if you havent already, do and do it.

So I was playing Borderlands 3, in the first DLC and came across a random side quest called Heart of Gold. All it was about was a defectve robot that wanted a friend. So you collected the items needed, do what you need and then at the end he says 'I had a nice day.' Made me tear up at that as he genuinely seemed lonely.
So what are some sad moments in gaming you ran across?
