Here's my list:

Bioshock - Generic FPS that had a unique setting, boring as hell, the whole series.

Borderlands - The ultimate grind in single player.

Minecraft - Still don't get it, never will.

DayZ - See Minecraft above. Repetitious but has a fun moment here and there.

Thirty Flights of Loving - It's not a game, I really don't know what was supposed to be so great about it.

Skyrim - It was ok, could have been so much more.

GTA V - It stopped being fun really, really fast. Big open world, not much fun to be found.

Saints Row series - Once good, is now juvenile bull****.

Dragon Age - Watching people talk endlessly is not fun, maybe I didn't give enough time.

Mass Effect - Same as DA.

And Hotline Miami.

+1.
Sorry to say thisismysisterkodos, but it seems you just tried out games outside of your interests. Dragon Age (mostly) and Mass Effect (little less) are both story, world and dialogue-heavy. Don't liking a game's base concept is somehow makes illegible to actually review it. That's why I didn't say random racing game is overrated, because I don't enjoy most (literally 99%+ : expections are Lego Racers and Revolt :P ) racing games. :)

Every game that people consider overrated in this thread is good. They have just different tastes.

Sorry but you're wrong, if you look at my list, the majority of the games are open world, sandbox types in one way or another, which is what I play the most, so no, they aren't outside of my interests.

It's a fine line between story driven and excessive talking. I remember playing DA and thinking "holy **** shut up and let me play the damn game". I turned it off after about 30 minutes.

Final Fantasy VII

Don't get me wrong, it was a great RPG at the time it was made. Back in 1997 graphics like that were downright amazing and FMV didn't really exist so even that not so great now FMV was amazing for its time. And up until Sephiroth becomes the main villain, the game does have a great plot.

But then Sephiroth shows up and slashes a potentially awesome plot into ribbons. On top of this there are so many plot holes that swiss cheese would be jealous. It seemed like the plot couldn't make up its mind what it wanted to be and what Cloud was supposed to be and then it fell flat. And the rest of the party isn't all that great either, barely more than cardboard cutouts.

And then people say the materia system is so awesome. It's not. Your characters just don't really learn any actual new abilities that stay there except for limit breaks. Once you remove the materia the characters suck. Plus you have to spend all this time to grind the materia for it to be at all useful and you don't get a lot of points for leveling materia with each battle. Everything it gets lauded for, other systems do better and with less grinding.

Overall, the game has aged poorly and everything it does has been done better by many other games, including other games in the same series. It should not still get all the hype that it gets when now you can play a myriad of far better games that are more worth your time.

Probably Candy crush saga or something like that (maybe a little late for this one). OP didn't mention it had to be on steam.

Portal 2.
Instead of a sequel to one of the best open puzzle games of all time, that celebrated thinking outside the box, we got a walking simulator with glass walls on both sides of you. A hilariously told, fun romp, and slightly interactive film, but not a puzzle game.

Portal 2 is almost perfect to me, but yes, puzzles are too easy. Fortunately, there is the Puzzle Maker.

Halo series, Minecraft, MOBA's, Battlefield series... but the worst popular (semi-popular) game I've played in the last 5-6 years is definitely "Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves".

I haven't played it but The Last of Us looks boring as fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

And Sniper Elite, most definitely. Game's only good aspect is the cool blowing up people minds thingy. Otherwise, visuals are crap, the games runs like crap and the game is fun like crap. Glad I got it for free.

I play LoL, I love it, yet I can't simply understand how can people actually praise this game. It's good, of course, but compared to other games outside of the MOBA category it's average at best. - hope this fits into the overrated category, as some serious fanboys claim this is the greatest game.
Plus.. maybe Elder Scrolls, Oblivion. I know currently Skyrim is the bee's knees, but back in the time Oblivion was a godlike hit, so we can say it is (was) hyped.
Strangely, I found this game boring after quite a small time. Somehow Morrowind was intresting (I don't really like the level-up system of ES III,IV, yet Morrowind was way more intresting), and Skyrim is just straight out great. (more gameplay, less pressure about leveling up the good skill at good time)
Now I'm giving it a new chance, someday I'll seriously delve into the world of Elder Scrolls. (Arena, Daggerfall free from Bethesda site, others collected :3 )

The Elder Scrolls Online. I Paid $80.00 For It, And I Hated EveryThing About It... Other Than The Graphics. I Was Expecting A "Sequel To Skyrim" Type Of Adventure, And I Just Got So Frustrated Over The Lack Of Controller Support, The Unability To Do A "Solo Campaign", The Lack Of A Good Story "Hook" And The Fact That I'd Have To Pay $$$ Every Month To Play It. I Did The "Escape From Prison World", Then I Killed A Rat Near The Pier... And Never Played It Again. THE END.

And In My Opinion, Not Only Is The ESO The Most OVERHYPED GAME In The Last 5 Years, But It Is The Most Disappointing Waste Of Time For Many Fans Of Oblivion And Skyrim Who Crave The Same Or Better When It Comes To An Elder Scrolls Game.

Sad you payed 80 bucks on something that you'll probably never play again, but I can't feel too much compassion for you and the rest of the Elder Scroll series "true fans" (suckers), because in the end it is your damn fault. Why? Because you didn't use your brains and actually expected this game to be more than just another bland, generic, fantasy setting MMORPG, desperately trying(and failing miserably) to steal World of Warcraft's crown.
