I see hundreds of groups specially made for being idle on TF2, and I wonder what they win by doing that...
I heard they get cases, but cases are useless without keys, arent they? Do you earn marketable items? and do you get them 100% or it is just random? I might be interested on being idle if I can get a profit out of it ._.

You get items, and they dont have to be playing the game. They can run it in the cmd window.
They dont even need to connect to a idle server. They can use their own ip and do a local game all through the command window,thus using very little resources. They will get items without doing anything. The items can be sold or traded for games. But its hard to get a lot of valuable items, well i should say rare.

If they use non-premium accounts, then they will get more valuable items.

I think this might be true...A friend of mine who started playing after me(I had premium,he not)dropped better things than me.Maybe this was coincidence,but this could be true.

Well, from one particular case I think we can infere that people without premium get better items. Also let's not take into account that they can't trade nor get other than Standar quality drops. :-p

Valve would advertise that if it were true.

A quick google search found this.

-textmode -nosound -noipx -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw +map "itemtest"

Add it at launch options on Steam, right click TF2 propierties, it should be somewhere around there.

Open notepad and write
cd "c:Program Files (x86)Steam"
start steam.exe -applaunch 440 -textmode -nosound -noipx -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw +map "itemtest"

Save it then change the file extension to .bat

You can add that command to the launch options on Steam, no need to write a .bat file.

Iunno, I like the .bat file since I don't have to redo the launch command every time I want to play.

Paint and name/description tags and hats are rare drops. Only premium users are able to find them and they are...rare. I have found three hats a few few name tags and one paint.

I think you can gain more being idle in TF2 than being idle in real life.

I gained nothing yet, from both.

Items. Which you use to craft metal. 18 weapons = 1 ref. Each account gets 9-12 weapons per week and takes around 8-9 hrs to get all the drops. You could get lucky and find a hat or something too. You then use metal to get keys. Keys are getting more expensive. They are like 4-5 ref. Use keys to get games or real world money. The only way to profit off of idling is to have several accounts. With keys being 4-5 ref you need at least 6 accounts to get a key a week. Some people have like 200-300 accounts. Use a program called sandboxie to idle all the accounts at once on a text server. Sandboxie is for free but it only gives you 1 account. Buy it for like 20 dollars to idle several accounts at a time.

Oh and getting an account requires a 50 cent purchase in the Mann Co store on each new account. Meaning, you are going to have to put at least some money into Tf2 if you plan on really profiting at this point. Unless, you unbox a crate and get a lucky unusual (1% chance of hitting the lottery). I have all the crap I have from spending a lot of time trading. I've been at this crap for a long time and I am pretty burned out, honestly.

First off, I fucking hate Caillou. He is a little bitch.

Secondly, the system is what it is to reward players casually. Its why people actually hunting for stuff get burnt out. I used to be a key reseller and it is much the same. Buy x game keys for y amount, sell each key individually for y/x*15%. Ultimately the time invested doesnt hold up to the payout. Make more money bagging groceries.

Have you ever watched caillou? the little bitch cries and causes a shit storm and still gets what he wanted in the end without really learning a lesson.

I hate that my nieces and nephews watch this bs.

The only marketable items you can get are tools and crates. Tools include paints, decal tool, name tag, but they're very rare.

Normally you just get weapons or crates. Assuming you get all weapons, 18 of them would be a refined metal which is about .35-.40. Typically you get 10 or so items per week, but it can be more. If you're really lucky you can get a hat which are 1.33+ ref, but they're few and far between.

No it's not, people have been idling much before traders started inflating key prices. The price was very steady at 2, then 2.33, then 2.66 refined, the reason for increase usually being events during which people have more incentive to open crates, such as Halloween.

Once keys started going for 2.77 and more, nothing could halt the increase in price. The more they cost, the faster their price rises. It's ridiculous.

You get weapons (or hats) from idling

weapons = scrap

scrap = reclaimed metal

reclaimed metal = refined metal

refined metal = keys

keys = currency in the tf2 economy

If u still want ur items, but dnt have the time or simply dnt want to play tf2 for 10 hours in the week then u may as well idle and play/watch/surf internet. If you have one account then no harm and no need for special programs.
