Looking for your recommendations

Hello there,

as I've noticed there are a lot of nice people around here, I was hoping you could help me out. I am looking for turn based, battle style games (or what should I call them). Basically, you have your own "hero", can level up, equip stuff and battle enemies/monsters/etc.

To give you an idea of what I am looking for, I already love the series Pokemon, Breath of Fire and Fire Emblem.
Here are some things to specify:

Don't care about: graphics, new/old game, price, targeted age
Care about: gameplay, storyline
Platform: PC, Nintendo DS/3DS

Thank you for your recommendations and don't be shy to throw any ideas at me :)

Yep, know about that. Just am afraid I wouldn't be able to tear away from it :D I already have too many hours played on my regular Pokemon games.

Dragon Quest 4-6 are on DS as well as 9.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and/or any Etrian Odyssey aren't bad if you don't mind the first person dungeon crawl stuff.

Also, high five for liking Breath of Fire

999: Nine Hours, NIne Persons, Nine Doors (DS)
Zero Escape: VIrtue's Last Reward (3DS and Vita, the sequel to 999)
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

All have fantastic storylines, maybe not quite so strong on gameplay, but Ghost Trick's gameplay is pretty cool. 999/VLR have fairly standard puzzles, but they're pretty clever. I love all three game quite a bit.

Not really turn based combat style games, but they DO look interesting. Will check 'em out :)

but i suggest you to really try out the shin megami tensei devil survivor 2 for 3DS man, you will love it

Etrian Odyssey series (1, 2, and 3) - 1 is getting a remake for the 3DS
Fire Emblem: Shadown Dragon - Turn based Strategy RPG

Pokémon Conquest

Nintendo 3DS
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (Not related to Strange Journey)
Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan - (Don't worry the Etrian Odyssey games aren't related to each others)
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor series - Yes, 1&2 are on the DS, but the 3DS has enhanced remakes. 2 isn't out yet and is still being worked on.
