So I was scrolling through the games that were under $1.91, and I saw that Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 were both $1.74 each, and I figured I'd check them out. My question is, should I get one, and if so, which one?

By the way, I only have $1.91, which means it's either the first or the second, not both, not all three of them, and not the third... Only Dungeon Siege one or two...

But shouldn't the true question be: Is sieging dungeon worth it?

Anyways, played Dungeon siege 3, and didn't really like it much.

But is Digging Sleighs worth it? That's what I really want to know.

I've heard that DS3 was awful because it was a poor console port... I'm not looking at DS3, just DS1 and 2...

DS1 and DS2 are pretty nice games (especially DS2), DS3 is totally different from the others and not worth it's name.

Oh and the soundtrack is just awesome.

When the game first came out, the game was amazing, I loved it. I am not sure the game has aged well, but I don't know, I haven't played the game in a long time

Well, how was it story wise? I actually enjoy some older games like KotOR and Morrowind (I'd play that more but the dice roll combat hurts me).

I cant actually remember the story of the game. I remember there was a lot of clicking, killing and looting.

Lots of people love Dungeon Siege 2 the most.
I played it years back, it's pretty good.

So would playing the first one help me understand the second, or do they have anything to do with each other?

The first two are great games. But I hate them for what they did to the saga with DS3. Really, it's awful, not nearly as enjoyable as the first too.

So, if you had to choose, which one is better in your opinion?

Get the Dungeon Siege Bundle that has 1,2, and 3+All DLC in it, if you get anything at all.
Don't let people's opinions deter you. Try them for yourself.

This. I had the fortune of winning the first two games, got hooked on them (even though I'm still trying to recover my save files from my old PC to no avail as of yet), and love them to bits. Even if I wanted the third game and its DLC only, the full pack would cost less.

I don't have the money, that's why I said I can only buy one or the other... And why I was looking in the under $1.91 part, that's all I have... I wanted the bundle, but I'd have to wait a while... I want to know which one of the first two is best...

According to everyone here, DS2 is the better one.
I've only played a bit of DS3, and my roommate played DS1/2 for a long time before I met her. I asked and she said DS2 is the better one as well.

DS2 is just like Diablo2, but the camera is 3d, instead of 1 character you control 4-6 and you can combine "classes".
DS3 is a good game, but it have nothing to do with a "Dungeon Siege" game - different story, different gameplay.

I especially liked the many secrets hidden in the first titles dungeons and the cool multiplayer world. It also has some nice mods available. Also the cool chicken level ;)

The second one had better looking environments, but wasn't that much fun to explore in my eyes. This time, the multiplayer takes place right where the singleplayer is. It is more polished, but that takes away a bit of the older ones charme.

I only played a demo of DS3 and didn't like it at all.

If you only intend to get one of the titles, I suggest the first one, else get the first two or get the cheap bundle.

First two games are awesome, especially if you like diablolike games with a twist (like have the ability to control a full party).

I played only the demo of DS3 but from what I've played, it only have the name in common with his predecessors.. :O

I'd actually go for Dungeon Siege 1, unfortunately Steam only gives the original game without its expansion, Legends of Aranna (which is the superior game of the series).

I'm one of the bigger fans of the series, and Dungeon Siege still holds a spot in my 'Top 10 of Favorite Games Evah'. DS1 simply is the Hack and Slash game for me, easily surpassing any installment of Diablo. To grasp the grandeur, the amazing soundtrack and overal lovely world design, Dungeon Siege 1 is your best bet. Take it from a fan who has at least 10 playthroughs on his record.

It seems like most everyone likes number 2 over 1, do the two share any story elements? Like, if I play 2 without 1, will I lose a lot of the story?

Mostly backstory, a lot of it is explained in the intro. The game isn't extremely rich on lore and whatnot, you'd be safe to jump into any installment from scratch.

Still, DS2 is liked more because it's prettier, but it really isn't the better game of the series. Also DS1 has more bang for buck, could easily take you 50 hours to complete if you like to explore. DS2 has 'only' 30 hours at best. I don't know what else to tell you, just to convince you to start... with the start. DS1 truly is the better game.

You can always pick up the second part for a few dimes afterwards.
