I really want to use the incredibly handy Archi's Steam Farm (aka ASF) to accept trades for me and to use it as a 1:1 trade bot. With the upcoming Steam Sales and having over 5,000 cards it will make life so much easier.

The problem is that for all I've tried, I'm unable to export the needed files from my phone (Nexus 6, unrooted) to my pc so ASF can use them.

I've tried doing it via Steam Desktop Authenticator and using a manual approach with the invaluable help of Shindo.

Does anyone know of another way of getting this to work? I'm hoping the Steamgifts Hivemind has the answer. :)

As it seems to be de rigueur to add a GA to forum questions (and not at all a bribe :), here's one that seems apt.

Is it necessary to export at all? Can't you just turn off the active authenticator from the Steam profile settings, and then activate a new one, like you would if you'd start using WinAuth, for example.

Like suggested here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8625-WRAH-9030#newphone

I want to use the authenticator on my phone as well; I often use Steam when I'm not at home (and on a different pc).

Pay attention that by doing that you trigger a 7-15 days trade restriction period.

That is one way to do that, but he'll remove authenticator from his phone and cause 7 days trade restriction. It's better to import data to WinAuth, and then to ASF - this is what I have - I have authenticator for my primary account in three places: phone, WinAuth and ASF. I use all 3.

Yes, but you need a rooted Android device for this, which many (rightfully) consider a deal-breaker.

But if it's about usage on different PCs, this should be possible, afaik. Just importing the WinAuth profile of Computer A on Computer B, right? (And then importing them in ASF, optionally)

once in a while the ASF calls for a code from the auth. and that's it...

Drop SDA, it's not best way to do that.

Establish connection with your phone through ADB firstly.

If you done all of the above correctly, whoami should result in root, which is great.

Now you just need to navigate to proper directory (cd /data/data/com.valve*) and cat content of files your're looking for. Import it to WinAuth next.

Thanks!

But does that mean my phone will be rooted forever or will I still get the monthly security update which will turn it back to default?

I don't know how you rooted it, what phone you have or what is your situation. You should ask in the place you got root from.

No, my phone is not rooted right now, that's they whole issue.

I would prefer to keep it a stock Nexus 6 without having to root it or anything else but it seems that's not an option unfortunately. Using the ADB export as Shindo explained on your ASF thread doesn't work for me; I get a 0 byte file.

You're not able to get to files you need without root access. It won't work, regardless what you do.

Thanks, I'll look into it further then.

BTW, it's weird that SDA's page claims it can work with non-rooted phones.

Did it work for you? Because I'm sure it didn't work for anybody, unless they found an exploit for the app or OS.

It worked for a few people, but for the 90% people remaining, it didn't. I guess you need a near perfect driver installation and a phone with no restrictions on backups to make it work (which is almost impossible to do...)

I finally managed to export from my phone.

Lots of googling lead me to this post: http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/20204-backpacktf-automatic-help-thread/page-83#entry530652

At the bottom of that post is the 'solution'; going back to an older version of the Steam app that allows backing up. This way you can use Shindo's solution (and maybe also SDA) on an non-rooted phone.

And just as I want to import it into ASF I see you just launched 2.1, I'm gonna read the Wiki very carefully before going ahead...

I've imported my 2fa to ASF and it all works perfectly!

It automatically accepted a pending trade I received via STM and I just did a trade with ArchiBoT which I was able to ok via 2faok.

Thanks again Archi, ASF is a really impressive piece of work!

(Haven't looked at my Steam app on my phone yet, hopefully updating that to the latest version won't mess things up, it should probably be ok.)

I'm glad you eventually managed to add it :3.

For accepting confirmations, as well as generating tokens, I suggest either authenticator in your phone, or SDA/WinAuth - !2faok works, but is not really user friendly, you should have a look what you're accepting.

I just run it right after creating some trades but you're right, you should be aware of any incoming trades before using it.

One of the reasons why ASF has very strict policy and when confirming confirmations it confirms only the ones it generated by itself.

Yeah, any other option would be quite unsafe. The way you have it set up is how it should be; only the user can ok any dumb actions.

You can't. Even if you manage to get to the right files through jailbreak, those files will be encrypted.
