This is huge news:

Introducing GOG Connect
GOG Connect

Important: You can connect only one Steam account with your GOG.com library. This process is permanent – choose wisely!

Important 2: If you own some of the games and Connect doesn't recognize them, press the Refresh button and wait a while (can be a few minutes, hours or even a day). The reason for this is that GOG is using the Steam API to scan your Steam library and the API has a limit on the number of calls it can make for a given period of time. If you're still having problems, refresh your GOG account (simply clicking the link is enough; this is different that the Refresh button on the GOG Connect page!).

Important 3: In case you are still getting the message "Due to exceedingly high demand this may take up to several days, please check back later. Thank you for your patience." after waiting a while and trying the account refresh link above, then it would be a good idea to contact GOG support. Many users have reported that their problem was fixed quickly after that.

Connect your Steam account and grow or jumpstart your GOG.com library.

Today, we're launching a new program called GOG Connect. The premise is simple: connect your Steam account and add your eligible games to your GOG.com library.

Whether you're checking us out for the first time or have been with us for a while, GOG Connect gets you DRM-free versions of your games, digital extras, and a whole lot of freedom of choice (like whether you go with the GOG Galaxy client or not). It gets you our take on game ownership, and we say: why buy the games more than once?

While GOG Connect will stick around, the available games will come and go. These are limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers, so stay tuned as we bring new titles onboard in the future (and grab your copies before they go away)!

I really hope more games are made available, because this could raise GOG's popularity significantly!

Thanks for the heads up!

Any idea why Grim Dawn was removed? Already own it on Steam, wouldn't mind having a copy on GOG too :)

Because it was a timed offer. According to GOG's tweet, other games may be removed and new games may be added.

Lol, I got a free Prison Architect. GOG connect just added it to my library. I only owned PA for a couple of days 2 years ago before it was removed from my account.

Damn, wish I knew about Grim dawn being on there before now, I would liked to have it on gog.

dang, wish I had started doing this when it first came out.. ahh well, this caused me to buy two games from GOG which weren't on steam.. Willie Beamish, (loved that game back in the day) and the Saboteur, thought that one was EA exclusive, was strange seeing it on GOG, but for 3 bucks, I had to grab it.. now to hope the bewbs are uncensored like the console version I used to have..

What happens if i buy an elegible game, connnect to gog, then refund the game on Steam?

Soorry for bad english

You probably would win the jerk award. Seriously why would you even consider this?

Afaik, if gog were to check again at some point it would be removed from your account. If you were caught abusing the system frequently them I expect you would be banned from gog altogether.

I'm not going to do it. I'm just curious

You're probably right btw

There's a FAQ at the bottom of the Connect page.

If I no longer have the game in my Steam library, do I still keep it on GOG.com?
If a game is removed from your Steam account for any reason, such as through manual deletion or a refund – we reserve the right to remove the games from your GOG.com library.

If you're only interested in that specific game then you just make your steam details private afterwards then they can't check.

And this is why we can't have nice things in the world.

Comment has been collapsed.

Not saying you should, just that there are options. Ultimately tough it's irrelevant. they've put that there to cover themselves in case it ever comes up but its unlikely that their ever going to actually check anyone.

"If I no longer have the game in my Steam library, do I still keep it on GOG.com?"
"If a game is removed from your Steam account for any reason, such as through manual deletion or a refund – we reserve the right to remove the games from your GOG.com library."

I never noticed that before ,isn't that a bit outrageous .
They're two separate stores and i can't see how that can be legally possible.

Yeah really outrageous that GOG even provides you free copies.
It's to prevent abuse.

you havent given gog any money for games on connect, therefore no transaction has passed.

Meanwhile Steam reserves the right to just randomly remove games for no reason.

Steam gives +1 and cards, while GOG doesn't, checkmate atheists

Until they reserve their right to not give +1, cards or even achievements. Wait, they already did.

I give you +1 for this comment. Brilliant

Because people abuse everything, always.

1) You see a game you don't have on GOG connect
2) You buy it on steam, and you pass it to GOG
3) You refund it on steam but still keep it on GOG

Does it make sense now that GOG can remove your game?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This, naturally, only applies to games acquired through connect so I don't understand how anyone who didn't intend to abuse the system could be upset about this

Bought World of Xeen, Crusader & Al Quadim on GOG to tide me over an upcoming no internets period, and seeing Prison Architect pop up aswell was quite relieving!

edit: Just realized there´s also Pokemon Uranium and the Metroid remake, yay :)

Yup! Briefly played it in my youth (came with "Bestseller Games", a fantastic german magazine), but my lack of english or RPG skills by that time meant my biggest achievement was brewing/finding/buying an air walk potion, reaching some cloudy area and totally getting lost/cut off there :p

Will do better next time!

Another "Bestseller Games" discovery for me, at a time where SNES action rpg´s were big =)

Yes. Was nice for PC gamers to be able to scratch that itch for action RPGs on PC.

I recall that my copy of the game was in spanish, so was really cool to play, and the story isn't half bad.

Let's spread the love for Al Qadim :)
