mixed reviews yay or nay?
I research it to see if it's worth it to buy (and usually buy iteven if it isn't because I spend my money impulsely ), but steam reviews don't mean shit, half are jokes and half are trolling. .001% is actually useful.

So true. That's just like saying a product is bad because the delivery took too long...
Another annoyance are reviews from people that played a game for just some minutes. Some titles need a little more time to win your heart and that's okay, just like some movies / series won't catch your attention at the very beginning.
When I'm unsure whether to buy a game or not, I usually look for a bad review written by someone that played the game for a relatively long time. These players are the ones that can give you a proper feedback, not some dork that started the game, played it 5 minutes and later makes a bad joke about one tiny aspect.
If I don't mind the mentioned flaws, I can be pretty sure not to regret my decision to spend money on it.
But for me, usually it's best to read a review published by a magazine or something. They know what they are talking about, have experience and I will hardly end up with something written by a hater, or a fanboy.
(Sorry for the bad english, it's not my first language ^^")

Your english is perfectly fine, don't worry.
I've played games with mixed reviews that I enjoyed and others with Overwhelmingly Positive that either weren't my cup of tea or just didn't like for one reason or the other. The best thing to do is read some reviews from people you trust and have the same likes and watch some videos to be sure.
Just because a game is over-hyped doesn't mean it will be good or fit everyone's taste.

I've bought games with bad reviews, because I like the sound of them no matter the opinions. Found some I've really enjoyed.

I read some reviews to see if there is some kind of problem with the game, like not working in an specific system. But every game is a matter of taste. I love puzzles for example and they are fairly easy for me, but some people have trouble solving puzzle games and hate them for it. I don't pay much attention to reviews when it comes to that, because I might like what you don't and vice versa.

If the number of negative reviews doesn't put me off right away (which it does quite often) I read those reviews through looking for the problem (but it results in 99.99% of the cases in a no-buy). For mixed reviews to have an impact on my descicion it must be a game I barely know anything about and can just base a quick descicion on those reviews - so mostly "unknown" indie games.

Depends on the cost vs appeal and the reason for the bad reviews. Some people might hate a particular art style or music while others love it. Some of us enjoy challenging games while others hate them. See if anyone you know already has it and ask them. Check how many hours other people have played it.

The only game that bought with mixed reviews in resent history was Darksiders 2. There were 2 reasons for that, first the game had some game breaking bugs which were fixed after the first weak and the second was that Nordic somewhat betrayed it fans. But yeah, I will not have a problem If a game has mixed reviews and if I think I'll like it.

I just skim through the negative reviews. If it is again just a bunch of bitching on how the graphics are not looking good, and the positive one praise the gameplay/writing, I may give it a shot.
On the other hand, some negative reviews can be really educational. Made me un-wishlist, then finally almost forget Planetary Annihilation, for example. :)

Only if I know for sure I will enjoy it despite the reviews. Like Just Cause 3.

If it looks fun and there are some positive reviews with a long playtime as said before....
Bought Hero Siege lately while it was on 'mixed' for a short time. It had mixed reviews due to a patch that a lot of players just simply hated.
Don't see why they would react this way ;)
So it depends on a game, as always :3

I'll probably do extra research by checking the forum first (How's the dev doing? In-depth talking topic) before decide to buy it right now, or wait a bit for an update or big discount. (Skyshine's Bedlam is also a good example here)

I do some research before getting it. Like I read an awful lot of reviews before buying Batman: Arkham Knight. It had mixed reviews but I decided that Scarecrow as a villain was too good to pass up and may be story will redeem the game. Haven't played it yet though.
For expensive games, I tend to avoid games with a mixed review due to a limited budget but for bundle games, I get them, try them and form my own opinion.

Like any review thing, be it for computer parts or movies or games, I don't take them into consideration that much (when it's mixed). If the game looks like something I'd enjoy I'll usually buy it if it interests me enough. After all, when reviews aren't joke reviews like they tend to be on steam, everyone still has different tastes and different opinions. :)

Mixed reviews, to me, means that there's about a 50/50 chance that I'll like it or not like it. I usually remember games with mixed reviews as ''Buy if it's in a bundle'' sort of games. For example, I thoroughly enjoyed The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, even though it has mixed reviews. I feel the combat was like a better version Mass Effect's combat.. Which is really nice, because Mass Effect's squad commands are fairly bland. The Bureau allowed more control over what your squad was doing. Although the squadmates were pretty much useless until given commands.

There are also professional negative review writers. Sometimes out of curiosity, I will look at the other reviews from the negative writer - and sometimes it isn't surprising to see that 95% of their reviews are negative. Some negative reviews are just a way for a butt hurt disillusioned user to get some payback on a developer or publisher. It's their way of "being heard".
When there is a good game, users won't always write a positive review, but if there is the slightest thing that annoys them about a game (including compatibility issues with their own pc) - then here comes a negative review.
I'm finding gameplay videos and twitch streams are excellent to help form an opinion on a game. http://www.fairsteam.com/ is also very handy.

Probably. The "review" system on steam is not good enough to have an accurate account of whether a game is good let alone something I'll enjoy.
Too many joke reviews. Too many people that are very quick to leave negative reviews for one wrong doing. Too easy for people to be bribed for positive reviews.
Gameplay videos and word of mouth have the most influence on whether or not I buy a game. :)

So lets say that there is a game on Steam that you really want. Theres no technical problems with it, it just has mixed reviews because some people like it and some dont. Do you guys usually buy games with mixed reviews or do you avoid them all together? Also will you buy a game with negative reviews if it looks really tempting?
Plus I know that you probably base it on what steam users say and WHY it has mixed or negative reviews, but I was looking more for your personal opinion when it comes to how you view review ratings.
