mixed reviews yay or nay?
If there are negative reviews but they are not visible "you have read all the helpful..." then it's auto blacklist even if the game is mostly positive. otoh there are certain games I would get even if the reviews were mostly negative depending on the situation..
don't take something being in my library as an endorsement though, mainly because of bundles....

As long as I think the game looks cool, then yes. Not all people like the same things, some might play a game for two minutes and decide they hate it, and another might play the game for 100 hours and still never get bored. And likewise, just because a game is highly acclaimed doesn't mean I'll like it. However, I do look at the negative reviews to see why people gave it a bad rating. Some people buy a game and it doesn't work on their computer/software or it has glitches. I also check to see how many people have glitches and how bad they are. Some people complain about a minor glitch, while others experience gamebreaking glitches.
I suggest doing that, and watching some gameplay on YouTube. If you think it looks fun, screw what others say, give it a shot. Worse case scenario, you hate it or have issues, then you get a refund (as long as you played the game less than 2 hours).

You have to read the reasons behind the negative reviews, sometimes it's childish or pure blackmail e.g. I saw a player with more than 100h booked on a 10$ game give a negative review because it was too repetitive. I mean, you spend more than 100h for 5 or 10 bucks and at the end you give a negative because you're bored/tired of it?

If a game I'm interrested in has mixed reviews, I will read these reviews first (of course not all of them, but I wanna know WHY people don't like the game). Sometimes it's because of bugs, sometimes because of too much spelling mistakes, ... After that I will decide if I wanna try it or not. But yeah, I also buy games with mixed reviews if I'm interrested in and the negative reviews are not because the game is full of bugs for example ;)

Regardless if a game has mixed or mostly good reviews I will always read some negative reviews for the games I may buy or enter a giveaway for. I'm looking for the reasons why people didn't like the game and if it would be a problem for me as well. Sometimes you will realize that the reviews are mixed because people are to stupid to play the game correctly or just care for graphic over actual gameplay. Other times really good games with overwhelming positive reception have minor things which stop me from buying them. So yea it really depends. For me a good example would be "Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny" which is a good game but has mixed reviews, some for strange reasons and some for justified reasons since it had a terrible launch.

There are games with almost exclusively positive reviews that I absolutely despise. There are those with negative reviews that I adore.
Always look at the game itself and the content of the reviews.
"10/10 would play again" is not a review...

Usually i watch at first a Let's Play or Walkthrough to see if the game is good anough for me.
I use Streamreviews only to look if the game has bugs.

reviews aren't really important to my purchase decision, I love deadly premonition and it's mixed on steam. So letting bad reviews deter me away from a game isn't a thing for me.
then again I appreciate a bad game, it's fun to play a completely awful game... atleast for a little while..

Often ppl write it's not worth the cost but when you see it in a bundle for 1/20 of the original cost suddenly the negative review which are only based on value has become invalid.

Yes, but with caution.
I check out few positive reviews (the best valued ones) to look for what they liked and praised in the game
Then check out more negatives, looking for troubles with the game.
And, at the end - my expectations + what I would enjoy is being compared to the (hopefully) objective picture about the game's positives and downsides.. Mixed generally means that in one or more department the game is lacking, it's matter of taste if it bothers me or not.

Thanks everyone. I was just curious on how mixed reviews would affect your opinion on games. Seems like most of you don't take it to seriously and do a lot of research. I usually tend to avoid mixed reviews but I think I'll give more a chance now that some of you guys brought up pretty valid points on why steam reviews are not always reliable. I'm going to go ahead and close the topic because I got enough opinions that I wanted ^-^

So lets say that there is a game on Steam that you really want. Theres no technical problems with it, it just has mixed reviews because some people like it and some dont. Do you guys usually buy games with mixed reviews or do you avoid them all together? Also will you buy a game with negative reviews if it looks really tempting?
Plus I know that you probably base it on what steam users say and WHY it has mixed or negative reviews, but I was looking more for your personal opinion when it comes to how you view review ratings.
