One reason is that the people you've blacklisted find that out when they try to ride your train. Although blacklisting people makes you ineligible to enter those people's giveaways, people (being what they are) usually counter with a blacklist of their own.

While I don't pay the matter any mind, a while back I happened to glance at the graph and noticed a huge spike for a specific day, so
I looked into it deeper. It directly coincided with my posting a [giveaway included] thread asking for a hug. Ouch. :P
[The addition of the two-way blacklist mechanic saw that number significantly drop (as the graph doesn't keep track of any cancelled blacklists), but looking at it now, that day still manages to at least match with any other graph bump.]
Most of the comments in the thread were rather nice, however. ^.^

80% that blacklist I receive are on the day I had my CDay or created CDay thread.
Like Sooth said I have lot less blacklist ratio after new blacklist system was implemented. Actually to be honest, I have fewer blacklist then after I created my 1st CDay thread. Guess 2-way blacklist did scare most member. After all its a giveaway site. +1 is more important than other things.

i know why you were blacklisted, it was for posting on the SG forums. if you make a discussion or comment on one you will get blacklisted by some hyper sensitive moron you offended by saying something they didn't agree with.

Yes, up to a week sounds more like what I remember. For instance, if you accidentally hit the blacklist button (say, instead of whitelist), it only takes a minute or two to cool down (if you fix it right away).

Crizyz is correct. As per this announcement, the duration depends upon how long you have had the person blacklisted, from one second up to one week.

Newb pro tip: Do not post any DLC GAs until you've gotten to at least Level 2. That's one way to avoid getting a few blacklists like I got when starting out.
Otherwise, people might think you are a leech who spams DLC, and blacklist you for it.

When I first was testing out SG, I posted 2 public DLC GAs that lasted 1-2 days each, I got 2 blacklists during that time, did not win any GAs, and don't recall leaving any GA comments by then.
I did not have discussions on SG forums, I did not link to my SG profile from anywhere at the time, and my Steam profile hasn't had anything pictures or content remotely offensive on it.
So that's what led me to the conclusion that I did: I was perceived as a leech because people saw that my only 2 GAs were DLCs, but I maxed out my entries.

People often blacklist for attempts at farming CV, which is usually defined by giving games of low quality but relatively high base price, as they see it as 'exploiting' the system since you are actively trying to maximize the CV gain instead of contributing meaningful games. DLCs often fall under the perceived category of 'bad games for easy CV' hence it's probably likely that's why it would happen.

Er. But [good] DLCs are highly coveted [by SG users who actually play the content in their Steam libraries]. They're usually quite well appreciated, and actually incline people to consider you for whitelists. The only people who'd reliably consider blacklisting you for that are the +1 autojoiner crowd, and given their entry habits, they're 1: probably not going to be bothering and 2: not worth paying any mind to begin with.
Bundled, basic soundtrack/etc DLCs would lack in that strong desirability, but shouldn't be poorly considered on their own.
SG has a large population with a lot of varying perspectives, which means you'll come across an occasional counter-culture niche that may give you a stray negative consideration or two. That said, looking at the giveaways in question, it seems highly likely that you were in fact blacklisted due to the links you posted in the descriptions of those giveaways, rather than due to anything directly associated with the giveaways themselves.

Interesting point. As a newb, in my mind I was linking to my trade rep on a part of Reddit only to imply that such rep would translate to me being a trustworthy gifter, which evidently didn't come across enough as "Hey I'm new here, but you can trust me to deliver on my gifts". Shortly thereafter, I recognized that SG users aren't concerned about gifter reputation unless you've not delivered on multiple giveaways.
I fully recognize these two site guidelines:

I did NOT ask for trades, nor were any of those links in the GA description go to my post/list of tradeables on Reddit. Its not like I linked to my ST or barter.vg pages.
When posting links or content, that content should not force users, encourage users through reward, or primarily exist as a traffic source for users to perform an action for promotional, commercial, or monetary benefit
IMO "Here's my Reddit rep" adheres to guidelines at best, or is a grey area at worst, and evidently my 2 blacklisters thought it was more like the latter.

yeah, you probably will never get the reasons why and most of all, you won't ever even know if they came from bots, level 0 users, guys who don't log-in here for months, suspended users.. I really think that in a non-profit website based on gifts one should definitely not pay that much attention to blacklists, it's better to keep on doing what we feel right to do, having fun and sharing our views in a friendly way, I love the spirit of these websites in which you can make other people happy so I really don't pay attention to blacklists.. often, they come without many reasons =P and that's why I have 0 users in my blacklist =P

There are many reasons people blacklist you.
For your ratio, your opinion, amount of games you own, religion, culture, from where you are from, breathing, existing.
The last time i got blacklisted was because i applied on someones whitelist. the person blacklisted me despite me having a better ratio than him.

Tropico 4. It was being given away free somewhere, and I grabbed a key and made a SG giveaway while the free event was still going on. I already owned it, so I was just trying to share... but this was at a time when free games were not allowed to be given away, so it was dumb on my part. I got quite a few blacklists for breaking the rules. (I ended up contacting Support to delete the giveaway).

Nope! There was an entire thread devoted to tracking games that had been available for free (and therefore not able to be given away on SG). It wasn't until 2017 that "no CV" giveaways became possible.
