Do people really buy not that cheap gaming headset when they just buy the regular ones?

I think he's asking if people really buy gaming headset when they can buy regular ones. Honestly, I don't know, but from my own experience regular headsets are shit. While you are paying mostly for comfort and quality, I don't mind paying $60 for headphones that will last me twice as long and bring me twice as much pleasure from volume than crappy sony headsets.

Nothing is worse than an uncomfortable headset. Your ears will never forgive you.

HD25 = every component is replaceable..
HD215's = a bit more comfortable though if you have large ears/head :)

The last few headsets I had were flat-ended.

Srsly? You can get waaaay better sound from non-gamer headsets for the same price. The only reason for me to get gaming headphones was only the wireless headphones + mic and if you want wired ones you can get way better sound and mic from non gamer headphones and a microphone.

Not in my experience. Every single pair of 'non-gaming' headsets that I've owned were utter crap, and sony nonetheless. This single pair of headset that I own right now is better than any other pair I've ever owned, and I don't buy cheap pairs either.

Why do you need a gaming headset when normal ones in the same price range work as well or even better?

I don't have special gaming headset, I only use Shure SRH-440 for all my audio needs :D

Personally, I have a fatality headset. It's pretty comfortable and the audio is fantastic ( It ups the volume by quite a bit, and has better quality than any set of headphones I've used ). Of course, because of fate, they are a bit beaten up from me dropping them. It has a LONG wire.

Do you have the basic Fatality headset (i.e., the one that doesn't have EAX built in)? I just got a pair earlier in the week, and I'm finding the audio quality to be pretty average. It's the most comfortable headset I've ever worn, however, and that's a huge plus for me.

Well, it may be the basic one, but I mean, it has decent quality. I don't recall having better headphones than the ones I have now. It may just be me.

Phones usually use a microjack port (2.5mm), while computers use a minijack (3.5mm), so no.

I belive that most of the phones today use 3.5. At least the ones i had/seen.

I've got Razer Electra, 3.5mm jack. Use them both for gaming and listening to the music on the go. Very durable, close to having them for 2 years now. And yes, most of the phones use 3.5...

AKG GHS-1 or Sennheiser PC360 maybe :)

Very cheap price - Sennheiser HD 201/202

Cheap price - Shure SRH440 / Sennheiser HD 508

Average price - AKG K 701

Rule of thumb: avoid "gaming" headsets. They break easily and are overpriced for their actual quality. Ones such as Fatal1ty should be avoided if you're looking durability and sound quality.

Fatal1ty is quite cheap though, and compared to other headsets in the same price range it is good (but possibly not the best). I've used several headsets in that price range, and Fatal1ty is one of the better.

I had mine break really fast, the sound quality was subpar. Cost me around 100 dollars too which is a huge amount for headphones whose quality is that equal of 30 dollar headphones.

I personally don't use a 'gaming' headset in my setup at home but I've used a Razer Carcharias for almost 3 years now thanks to a gaming cafe near my university. Let me tell you, ALL 'gaming' headsets overprice their mediocre products. You can buy awesome headphones with MUCH BETTER SOUND QUALITY and COMFORT. After that, just go for a $5-$10 microphone clip-on.

I suggest looking into studio headphones. You can also check out ATH-M50 (Audio-Technica) or Sennheiser ones.

headdies: HD25/HD215 Sennies
mic: Logitech C300 webcam / PL88L Electro Voice dynamic

I used to use $20-25 TDK headphones until I used at a gig once and the bouncer must have thought they looked worth more haha. He ganked em, the bastard, the night before a AA2.x ladder match to

I'd recommend the Playstation Pulse Elite headset, a bit expensive but worth it (Got mine off Craigslist for $75). It's just so convenient to have a 7.1 surround sound wireless headset that has a mic inside it, also works on both PS3 & PC! Bassimpact will not fail you~

No such thing.

Get a nice pair of headphones and a mic attachment.

Grabbing this from my old post:

You're much better going to a site like Head-fi, your best bet is a decent pair of Headphones and a clip on mic, I had a list but must have misplaced it...let me go look.

Edit: Can't find it, anyways here are some to check out:

Creative Aura Live

Sony MDR-V6

Ultrasone HFI-450

Audio Technica Ad700

Koss DJ100 (Might wanna replace the earpads if you get these with M50 pads)

Audio-Technica ATH-M50

Grab a mic like this

I quite enjoy my Astro A40's 2013 headset and mixamp. They are great for larger heads, very durable, and sound great for other audio purposes as well.

I used to always get cheap head sets but they'd only last a few months until they broke. I'd jump across all these different brands and I'd keep wasting money and time picking out a new one. I finally decided to get a nice pair and bought a Logitech G930. They have been absolutely top notch since day 1. Great sound quality, great drivers, great microphone quality, and wireless is an awesome feature. It's a bit pricey, but I bought it expecting for it to last a long time while being a good quality headset and it certainly hasn't disappointed.

I'm using an old pair of Razer Morays that I got back in 2009. Still work, still good, at least for what I do. Cost me about 35 dollars.
