Update: Okay! This has been a blast. Thank you all so much for the posts. I loved each and every one of them. I even found some great, music, books, games and stories! Everyone that has posted here has received a spot on my whitelist, so enter any of the giveaways you wish to do so if you haven't done so already. Y'all may continue to post anything October related if you wish, however you must let me know if you want to join a giveaway before I whitelist you. The giveaways will be open until October 10th 2 PM CDT.

There doesn't seem to be any interest for some whitelist only giveaways that I made for my community and a community that I am a part of, so I have decided to also include this community in my giveaways.

So, since just adding anyone that wants to join to my whitelist is boring, here are the strings attached to being whitelisted:
I love October, it is my favorite month of the year, so post one or more of the following.

  1. Favorite Halloween experience
  2. Creepy story that happened to you
  3. Favorite creepy story that you have heard/read(linking to it is fine)
  4. Appropriately themed:
    • music
    • meme
    • joke
    • poem
    • gif
  5. Tell me about your favorite Horror game and the experience you had with it

Have fun with this, also if you have no desire to join my whitelist giveaways, feel free to post anyway. I want all things spooky, spoopy, creepy, horrifying, terror-filled, etc.

These are the giveaways:
Incredible Dracula: Chasing Love Collectors Edition
#KILLALLZOMBIES

Last year was the first time I went trick or treating with my friends as it is not very common here. We met in the evening and spend several hours preparing our costumes. When we were finished it was already so late, that none of them wanted to ring a doorbell, as it was already so late that it would have been very impolite. We went home with a grand total of one candy each, which we got from a kiosk...

Glad to hear. I'm usually the opposite, much prefer staying home alone than do anything with friends. Maybe 'cause I love handing out candy to any trick-or-treaters that come here and seeing their sometimes very inventive costumes.

so, I'm from Germany and people aren't really celebrate Halloween here, well,at least since 15 years ago. And that was exactly the time, 15 years ago, when a friend and I, both 16 years old, wanted to get some free candy. But as I mentioned before, there really wasn't any Halloween costumes we could have bought. BUT, we had the same jacket. It wasn't just a black jacket, it was a blue one with a big white salamander on the back (that was the logo of the brand). The only difference was, that the jacket of my friend was XL and mine was M...and he was blond and I was brown haired. So we didn't look alike, except for the jackets. But we gave it a try and went into a candy store saying: "Trick or Treat!". The guys were looking at us puzzled and asked, what kind of costume we have. Well, we answered: "we are twins!". They just said, that we should leave the store. We went to a house with a few flats. We ringed the bells but only one door opened. It was a mid-aged woman. Again, we said: "Trick or Treat!". Again, the same question, again the same answer. The woman looked confused, but gave us a candy anyway! And that's my favorite Halloween story. I never went trick-or-treat again after that, because I felt too old.
Most of the time, I forget Halloween and kids are coming by and I have nothing to give them, so I play dead. But last year, I bought a ton of candy and not even one child came. F this s, I'm playing dead this year again XD

Can be a similar celebration or just October related, for instance, Oktoberfest, Mischief Night, or even Canadian Thanksgiving which I believe is today.

Our major holiday here (Greece) in October is a national holiday, where we hold parades (schools, military etc, the usual).

It has all the creepiness in the world, because all the old creepsters crawl out to watch young girls parading in short skirts an white shirts. Add that the weather can be from mild autumn to full-on "evil winter is early this year", and we got to parade in the rain with no overcoat or anything, because it's basically mandatory, shivering, which is a horror story by itself.

I haven't yet played too many horror games (though I have several in my library that I intend to play this month), but I really enjoyed Bad End. It's a visual novel, which appealed to me more than the idea of jump scares as other games have. I only spent about two hours on it because it's fairly short to get all the endings, but honestly, it's really neat.

I've always liked the idea of "if you die in the game, you die in real life."

Additionally, a story about my Halloween experiences:
Every year, a high school math teacher who lived down the road from where I grew up would always be the one to answer the door rather than his wife. Once you said "Trick or treat," he would then proceed to perform a trick for you (which he also did after the math quizzes every day in high school, I later learned). It was always pretty neat, to be honest. I wish more people did that when greeting the children for Halloween.

Oooh, a horror VN, awesome.... After looking at it on Steam, definitely adding to my wishlist for a future purchase. That is an interesting way of going about trick or treat, usually, the trick is supposed to be done to the one not supplying a treat. I like it, it would be neat to see people doing it that way, for sure.

I guess I would say my best Halloween memory was when I was younger, I think 7 years old. We lived way out in the middle of no where so we had to drive to other neighborhoods to trick or treat, I get up to one house and I see this figure standing over the sidewalk dressed in a robe with a hood that is completely covering the face. I figured something was up so I walked cautiously keeping an eye on it, I even walk a little in the lawn. I think I am in the clear and the person screams and grabs a hold of me real quick. I screamed so loud that you could hear me from 3 streets away. I found out it was actually one of my sister's friends and afterwards had a good laugh about the whole thing. I think to this day that is my favorite memory for Halloween.

My favorite creepy personal experience is actually rather silly.

Firstly: I freaking love Friday the 13th. It is one of the few series in human history that is great without being good. It's marred by an undue reputation, for it's not a conservative vengeance trip. At its face-burning, bed-impaling best, it is the id eating itself, reveling in the things it punishes, and it stars the hardest working man in show business.

So when Michael Bay said his Platinum Dunes would remake Friday the 13th, I was excited. He couldn’t screw it up worse; it was already bombastic, prurient and downright dumb in every way his stuff was, only lacking the budget. He could just paste together the fun parts from a few of the movies and have a winner. Give me the hockey mask, machete and teens who should know better, and you’ll get this liberal pacifist’s money every time.

They set to release it on Friday the 13th, 2009. I looked forward to it throughout January, with such intensity that even friends who hated Horror were excited for me. Yet it was a rough period in my household, and the closer we got to that Friday, the less I thought I could justify the price of a ticket. As the sky grew orange and the shades of the trees around my house swelled, I resigned my dream. I’d just stay home and polish some short stories.

I was opening Microsoft Word when the power went out. My desk faced the windows; down the street and around the lake, every house had gone dark. My battery back-up beeped in protest as I stared outside. Dusk rushed in, turning the surrounding forest into a silhouette.

I saved everything on the computer, shut down and gathered candles. This was obnoxious, but hardly fate. I could sketch plots in my notebook and maybe finish reading the Poe’s Children anthology before bed. I was carrying the books down the stairs in search of a flashlight when I witnessed perhaps the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

Light flickered through my front windows. I peered through the curtains and found headlights. Actually, I found a figure in those headlights. It was a large, stocky man in washed out coveralls, carrying an axe over his head. He was in the street, and I swear he was looking right at me.

It took me a few moments to realize it was a neighbor home from construction work. Ironically, I only realized this when he unpacked the chainsaw from his pickup truck.

But that was enough for me. I told God and Michael Bay that they had won, I told my family goodbye, and got in the damned car. I’d go to the stupid movie instead of sitting in the dark all night. I was laughing to myself when the radio buzzed on. The Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” was playing.

I drove very fast.

I will share two Halloween experiences. One of them happened to me, and another happened to a girl.

Basically, when I was really little, my dad used to take me to the usual Halloween attractions--hayrides, pumpkin picking, etc... Well, he used to tell me, while we were inside haunted houses, that there were secret trap doors around that would drag unsuspecting children down inside. Being a young child, I believed him. It made the experience quite memorable.

As for the other little girl, one Halloween day, she came to the house with her father. We had a fog machine going up at the front door, where the candy was, and my father told her, beware the fog, it'll turn you inside out. The girl refused to go up the driveway to the door for her candy and clung to her father's leg instead. Her dad thought it was funny. We thought it was funny but also felt bad. We gave her extra candy. =P

I guess the bottom line is, my dad didn't hold back in regards to scaring kids on Halloween.

Favorite Halloween experience

My mom didn't believe in halloween so I didnt' celebrate until I was around 10. My first Halloween experience was going to Halloween Horror Night with my sister. I had never done a haunted house or anything scary so it was terrifying! I remember I left the doll and clown haunted house, and when I was walking out of the haunted house I thought I was finally safe. Little did I know, waiting outside the house were three clowns with chainsaws. I don't have a clown phobia, but those f--kers started chasing me with chainsaws! Also it didn't help that my sister kept pointing at me everytime a scary costumed employee would come up, so I was ALWAYS targeted. As my first Halloween experience, it was a blast and I'm happy to shit myself again anytime :P

Uh, Halloween ^.^ I always LOVED Halloween, although it's not very popular in Germany ^^" but since I'm a huge fan of "Nightmare Before Christmas", of course I fell in love with Halloween :3
Unfortunately, I never had a real Halloween experience apart from watching my favourite movies and getting dressed up all for myself ^^" I have this neat Belial Cosplay (from Angel Sanctuary) with a specially made hat (and of course, no digital photos exist x.x and I just realized how hard it is to find a picture of 'my' outfit q.q Well, it's the one in the first, small picture...) The costume itself won't fit anymore (it's been... more than 10 years, I guess), but I still love the unique hat.

My favourite Halloween themed song is, of course "This is Halloween", and I especially like this old, but epic AMV :3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj2rTWKkMBo

And my favourite Game :3 There are so many I like and so little I managed to actually play, or let's say complete...
I adored the original White Day (and had a nightmare after playing it for only a couple of minutes T_T I want to play the new version so badly :3 and one day, I definitely will!), I'm a huge Silent Hill fan, I tried Clock Tower 3 and failed, same goes for the Project Zero games (some might know them as Fatal Frame) ^^ But this year, I promised myself to finally play a horror game again ❤ I'm not sure which one it will be, but I'm determinded.

Oh, and this last picture? :3 Quite possibly my favourite Halloween-Kitten ^^ it's so adorable!

i take the
(creepy self experience story)

I was a hostage (no joke)

but first experienced this as the police tell me that o_O

I try to explain it short as i can (hard quest/duty :D).

I was at home and have a friend over there and we cook in the kitchen.
At the second floor my aunt and her man lived.
Only that man was at home, make loud noise and i thinked he work anything. Later he phone with my aunt and it was not a nice call (i only heared that it was loud too)
He came down and speak with us over cooking. All normal.
Later i see a few (maybe 6) strangers (all male) stand 20m far from our house. That happens not often in a small village. But ok i not interest me for all around in the village.
Later i look out of a window and see 2 police people with MP's, bullet proof vests, steel helmets (with twigs at the helmet) in camouflage suits crawl trough our garden.
My friend not trust me as i called him and say that two full weaponed camo ones crawl trough our garden.
We are both confused much from that.
I looked around and see a, bigger, police car (with the fat logo police on the side -important for the later story...-) on our parkdrive. That one was mabe 10meters away from our house.
After that the doorbell rings.
I walked to the door, opened it and 6 Police people + a dog stand there (not in police clothes). They call us to come out, they rescue und safe us, because we are hostages.
Now the friend and i was complete shocked and confused.

We are out, the 6 people call for the man to come down and they are nice by bringing him to the prison
They want not go up the density stairs because he had a knife (a little breakfast knife.. nothing special or really dangerous).
After 20 min. later he came down after they promised him he can take a few clothes with him and such things.
After he was in the 1st floor the smash him on the ground, much more brutal then needed, nearly break his arm (he had nothing in the hands), stand on his back. And then they let him not took anything, he had only a jogging suit (without a top). No other clothes, no toothbrush, nothing.

What i experienced later... he was a "gangster" and make trouble when he was on alcohol and drugs ) i never seen him on alcohol or drugs before), was judged for grocery robberies with a gun and kicked a few cops asses with his fists. Because they not want warned him they was not in police suits, used camo suits and so on. BUT then park a big police car with that fat lol on our parkdrive :DDDDD (must i say that the windows from his flat showed direct to this parkdrive? ... so LOL when you think over this detail). And the ass kicking from him for other cops was the reason why they want not go up stairs :DDD.

He take taken drugs and alcohol at this evening and had a quarrel/beef with my aunt. He telled her when she not come home very quickly a disaster would happen. She thinked that he do me anything and called the police.

We finsihed our cooking and eating one hour later, after the interrogation over our hostage drama :DDD ( i telled them it was no hostage drama ) and had much to speak over at this evening.

That was around 15, maybe 20 years ago.
Still a nice memory :o)

I think my favorite horror game would have to be Penumbra: Black Plague. I played back in the day in my crappy laptop, and it was awesome how well the game ran and how good it looked. And, to top it of, it's a freaking great game with great game mechanics. Amnesia gets all the attention, but Penumbra is the real gem, in my opinion. But, now that I think about it, Silent Hill 2 is so fantastic, and it also provided me with a great experience, because I played it on my ps2 when my computer broke some years ago. I went 6 months without a pc, and I played all Silent Hill games available for ps2 in that time (and some other games). But Silent Hill 2 was the best. It was the first I finished, right after my pc broke. Ah, well, I can't decide. Of course, I love my Resident Evils, but I don't consider them real horror games. I never felt scared or tense playing them, at least. I never played 7, though, and that is something I look forward to.

Yes, the Penumbra Series is pretty great. I've actually never played any of the other games you listed. I didn't really play video games between 1985-2014 except for here and there. Mainly only Nintendo consoles and about 5 or so pc games so I missed out on a lot of games. :/ Maybe one day...my backlog is so long. :'( But I'm slowly catching up on some of the old titles while also playing newer ones :P

Oh, wow. I really, really, really recommend you play Silent Hill 2! What a great game that is. The best version is the ps2 version, but the pc version with some mods is good enough. Give it a try when you have the time. It's worth it even if it's not on Steam.

Here in Germany Halloween is not that comon but it gets more and more popular expecially the youth celebrates it. The elderly are often not amused because it collides with the Reformation Day of the evangelics and sadly a lot of things at the front of the houses get destroyed by drunken rowdys.

A few years ago a group of children were at the door and said "Trick or Treat" (In German: Süßes oder Saues) to my mum. She answered: "What? Thats's all?" xD

She was that confused because we have a compable tradition 11 days later on Saint Martin where children dress up as everything (not just scary things) and also collect candy but they sing songs or recite poems when the door opens. :)

XD They could have told her one of the many little trick-or-treat poems that go with the phrase. "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat." There are so many versions of it, I've heard a few at my door. Oooh, I love hearing about other traditions, that sounds like fun.
