Welcome to my new puzzle/quiz. This is similar to my previous one as it consists of a series of Youtube video clips but it has a different theme. I have spent some time digging into the history of video games to select some games you have now to identify if you accept the challenge. Selection wasn't based on my preference or knowledge about the games, but purely on how you can identify them even without any previous knowledge of these games (you can still need some background and skill though).

Prizes are from GreenManGaming or GamersGate or Steam. Two good games so far, if you solve the puzzle but you already own that game, please post a comment, it's possible I'll add another giveaway based on this feedback.

I have downloaded these videos from Youtube, cut the interesting parts and added a blur/noise filter and similar to prevent reverse image search (believe me, you can do it without using these tricks). Some games are multi-platforms, for computers and/or consoles, 8 bit and 16 bit era. Not everyone has a dedicated Wikipedia article.

The quiz was created using itstoohard.com. Please, don't reveal anything about the /puzzle/, no links, no answers, no what is gifted. No sharing, no hints, no cooperation, do it yourself, on your own. Enter the giveaways only if you are interested to play the game, Y1Bg609s not redeeming the gift will result in a ban for you.

If you wish to report any problem privately, you can get into the SteamGifts chat and PM me from there, or send a PM via Steam Forum. Don't add me, don't ask for hints via chat. I can give some hints in this thread or directly in video, if necessary. The questions have names for reference ("Q1", "Q2"...), pay attention to what you write if you post here, don't spoil the puzzle.

Q1-Q7 First giveaway (Orcs Must Die 2)
Q8-QF Second giveaway (secret)

Quiz hint countdowns start after the first wrong or correct answer (30 minutes only). This kind of hints is available only for a few of questions.

Timer (Monday 8 April, 11:00 PM CEST)

Difficulty level is variable, the first questions should be very easy, but the rest isn't hard at all probably for expert puzzle solvers like you.

Are you going to post the answers once this is finished? I quit, can't find Q10 and even if I did, it sounds like I'd still have quite a bit ahead of me.

Yes, I'll do it.

Please wait for me, if that take time, don't post the answers.

Thanks to all who participated. I hope it wasn't for you all just frustrating but you could get some fun solving or trying to solve it.

Solution
========

Q1. Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, Michael Jackson: Moonwalker, Moonwalker

The player character is Michael Jackson, the music is Smooth Criminal. Have you ever seen Jackson dancing? And that special forward leaning move? Anyway, watch this Team Fortress 2 version of Smooth Criminal (don't miss 2:15-3:15), or this my clip if you can't see the original one.

Q2. Aladdin, Disney's Aladdin

Best-selling game for SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive (but also a multi-platform game), developed by Virgin and Disney. That oil lamp should help to recognize it as a game from Aladdin folk tale.

Q3. Donald Duck's Playground

An education game developed by Sierra. That character with the yellow beak and the tail wagging while climbing on a ladder was Donald Duck, yes.

Q4. Life & Death II: The Brain, Life & Death 2: The Brain, Life & Death II, Life & Death 2

A game where you do physical examinations and brain surgery is not very common in the history of video games, I think.

Q5. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom

A whip used as weapon, this must be Indiana Jones. Also the music can help you if you know this movie, and that minecart.

Q6. Zool

If you don't know already the game, you can notice three times in the video a Chupa Chups logo, as this game was sponsored by this popular confectionery brand. Google or Google Image with search terms such as "Chupa Chups game", and you find the answer.

Q7. Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior, Death Sword

A popular fighting game of that time, I had to use a lot of video filter effects in order to make the Google reverse image search function unhelpful. If you have thought to Conan, you were on the right track. The game developer based the game on Conan The Barbarian by Robert E. Howard and related movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. You could get the answer even without noticing any reference to previous works, as the game is popular and the first letter of the name is partially visible on screen. Guessing this was mostly a C64 game was helpful. I have noticed a similarity with the movie soundtrack, but I watched the movie recently.

A solver (chour) has found the answer searching for game with decapitations (try for example with "decapitation c64", in Google or Google Image), actually Barbarian looks a bit as a Mortal Kombat of that time.

Q8. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Just try to read some words or phrases on screen and Google suggests you at least the theme of this game. For example: "The bedroom is a mess" is quite enough. Then you can find the game title from Wikipedia or from Mobygames.

Q9. Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Star Trek 25th Anniversary

The teleportation of Star Trek is likely the most widely-recognized fictional teleportation.

Q10. Dante's Inferno

The player character is Dante Alighieri, Italian poet, author of the Divine Comedy, who is starting his journey through Hell. Yes, it has the same name of the recent game (2010) for Playstation 3. I haven't checked if you can meet Charon in that 3D game though, but in this game you have to pay an obol to the old ferryman or else you are killed by the swarm of flies and wasps.

If you search just "ferryman", Google first result is Charon. I have thought this should be enough to answer the question with some deductions. Dante should be well known outside of Italy, but this question have got a number of solvers quite low, same as in my previous puzzle the question related to Ulysses.

I have posted some hints but due to the server downtime it was definitely too late.

A solver (savv) has found the answer surprisingly using the name of the music (Bach, French Overture, BWV 831) you can listen in the second part of the video.

Q11. Tron Deadly Discs, Tron: Deadly Discs

TRON is a known franchise with a recent released movie, TRON: Legacy, and many video games. You can see an arena with a special kind of gladiators, they have a disc as weapon. In the second part a recognizer try to close the open doors but the player stops it quickly.

If you fail in identifying that is a TRON game, then it's very hard to find the answer, as this is an Intellivision game. Intellivision was a quite popular console made by Mattel, Atari competitor, with better graphics and so... A peculiar graphics that make easier guessing the platform, but you need a bit of background.

I was counting on the fact that many people have at least seen a trailer of TRON: Legacy, and also posting hints later.

QF1. Hunchback II: Quasimodo's Revenge, Hunchback 2: Quasimodo's Revenge, Hunchback II Quasimodo's Revenge,
Hunchback 2 Quasimodo's Revenge

Game based on a well known character, Quasimodo, a bell ringer, from Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo.

QF2. Pantheon

Name of a building of a Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood image.

M•AGRIPPA•L•F•COS•TERTIVM•FECIT

QF3. Sleepwalker

Nice gameplay, a sleepwalker and a dog.

QF4. Arch of Constantine

Another image from Brotherhood, another ancient Rome building. Arch of Constantine and, back, the Colosseum.
This Arch of Constantine isn't very close to the original, though.

QF5. Weird Dreams

A man and a cotton candy / candy floss machine. This question requires Google Fu or similar skill. Google or Google Image search engines + "candy" + "floss" or "cotton" + "amiga" or "c64" or "atari" and so... and you can find the answer. Using Wikipedia search function: "candy" + "floss" or "cotton" + "game".

Great puzzle, I didn't know the vast majority of the games in the videos, but like you say, was able to deduce what they were from certain aspects shown - even the fabled Dante's Inferno question.

It's a shame I didn't win anything, but I had fun solving the puzzle and I can appreciate the amount of time you must've spent putting it all together.

Heh. Deciphered Charon and Obol at once but never got past Q10 nevertheless. A nicely designed puzzle, Bruto! Thanks.

The music in Dante's Inferno is a bit too cheerful for hell. I only found the answer by pure luck. I googled for jungle and c64.

Well, what you see in the clip is the antechamber or Ante-Inferno, exactly, not Inferno.

After I finally managed to reply to Q10, I couldn't go on with Q11. I just was stuck with SpeedBall in mind, and indeed it was quite similar game in the end...and I even stumbled upon Tron while googling!
Also, since SG went down for some time I hadn't the chance to read the hints!

Anyway great puzzle, thanks! I really really enjoyed it! Hope to see more!
