Every year I write list of things that I need to accomplish in this year. Seeing how my steam library is growing I challenged myself to complete at least 15 games that I bought/got before this year. And there is a lot of uncompleted gems in my library.
For example: I finished Mass Effect 2 in February.
Now I'm playing Dark messiah of Might and magic, which was released 12 years ago...
And I never finished Dragon age: origins, Amnesia, Syberia 2 and never tried Braid...

TL:DR
Clear that backlog of old games

2010 games aren't old though. They're just out a while. If I haven't played them yet, they're new. :P

I'd consider 15 years and older and being on the old side. The technology is often really apparent at that point. An AAA game released 8-9 years ago is really no different than the majority of really good indie games released today.

just looking at the list, the following games came out 10 years ago:

Batman Arkham Asylum
CoD Modern Warfare 2
Dragon Age Origin

Other than that graphics have gotten a little bit better (if you have a high-end rig), those games are still some of the best in their respective genres.

I don't own a high end gaming rig. I've been sick for 2 years, so to be honest, just using the computer that I used for work. :) A mac. People get all "hurr durr" about that. But... so long as I don't want to play the absolute latest in AAA games, it's a non-issue. I have over 300 games that are compatible. ^^ Maybe when I return to work, I can get or build a computer exclusively for gaming that will allow me to play the handful of great games in my stash that are not compatible with my current machine.

Last week or so I played Day of the Tentacle (1993). Now that's an oldie. Hehe! It's timeless though and I won it here on SG. ^^

I did Call of Juarez (2006) earlier this month... Maybe I will go for Resident Evil 5 (2009) soon!

But, first, let me finish The Witcher 3 (which might take a while...) :D

Cheers!

Edit: Oops, fell for your Necro... which is oddly appropriate for this topic! :D

As an enthusiastic retro-gamer, this is the kind of challenge I like... an easy one. ;)

Currently playing:

HOMM: Tribes of the East (2007)
Ground Control (2000)
Broken Sword 1. Director's cut (2010)

Just finished Theme hospital (1997) and Alien Vs Predator Classic (2000)

For people trying to choose: Here's a list of PC games released in 2009 (you can choose different years from the dropdown box) to see whether there's any game before 2010 that catches your fancy!

https://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/pc/filtered?sort=desc&year_selected=2009

Most games with a Metacritic score over 84 (and user rating over 80 too) always seem to be worth playing, at least in my experience. :)

Lol, I figure the list might be helpful for people who have a huge backlog of old games (or games in general), and want to know a good starting point. :) It's sort of like Steam ratings, and includes non-Steam games too.

If Mass Effect 2 is old so I play old games all the time... The odlest game I've played in last year was Metal Gear Solid 1.

Some older things in my library that have a chance of being played... assuming they run on my current computer.

1989-1996 Tex Murphy Complete Pack

1993 Bloodnet - got it during a sale I think, maybe try again at some point, the introduction dialogue was pretty cheesy, but I guess that's too be expected.

2000 Alien versus Predator Classic 2000

2000 Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption - Didn't know about this one until I saw it on Steam store, should probably give it a try.

2004 Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - Have the original discs somewhere, never did finish it. Perhaps time to give it another attempt.

2009 Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Another started, but never finished from disc version that I now have on Steam and should probably give it anther go.

I got a lot more not new games in my library than I realized... welp. let's see if any of them can keep my attention long enough to complete.

If you try returning to Bloodlines - remember about Unofficial Patch.
And be ready for a shooter game that cares about your stats a bit more than about your skills with mouse :)

Speaking of games that came out a long time ago, but still aren't old (as in forgotten and not being played): Heroes of Might and Magic 3 will be 20 years old in 1-2 days! I still play that game quite regularly. :)

Guess I should try to finish Quake on hard, finally.

Nice. I don't know how well it holds up gameplay wise, but the storytelling and the noir atmosphere are timeless. I think you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the follow-up and for telling me about your gameplay experience. I have not played it since its release (so almost 18 years, wow) and I always find it interesting to hear from people who play 'games from my youth' for the first time. I wonder if I would have the same problems getting into it now if I were to play it again. Was it the camera in combination with the movement that made it not enjoyable? It was a bit finicky IIRC.
Good to hear this experience hasn't turned you off from playing the rest of the series. I have not played the third installment yet, because it came out so many years later than the other two games. But Max Payne 2 is an improvement in every regard and also has smoother gameplay. Although I'm not going to make any claims this time that you're definitely going to like it. ;)

I don't mind a little gaming related chat either if I can spare the time.

Just saw your post in the XIII remake thread and I absolutely second thresher3253's recommendation to play the original game now.
Extremely underrated game with a unique artstyle. Coincidentally the storytelling via comic panel is quite similar to Max Payne ;)
