So I am getting 2 invites from new lvl 2 spam accounts with private profiles every day and when I accepted one to see what it was about is just sent me some prewritten spam.
I'm thinking they are from this group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steam-level-up-bot
Which I guess I joined for one of those shit giveaways. I just left the group so hopefully it stops there.

Anyone else having the same thing happen? Did you manage to stop it by leaving some group?

I expect the admin is also the one making several spam threads in Steam Trades and even popped up here.
How many alt accounts must he have?

Does anyone know if steam has ever blocked bot network accounts?

Please report the group on Steam and copy/paste the spam message you have. Steam will probably do something if there are numerous reports on the same group.

Edit: Report the group if it is the one that is trying to scam.

I doubt it. but that's why I'm asking if anyone knows whether it's coming from that particular group or if it's from somewhere else.

Sorry, I thought you were certain the group is responsible for the spam. Have you tried asking on Reddit /r/Steam sub-forum?

Duuuude. You're in over 200 Steam groups, most of which are extremely questionable/spam farms. Of course you'll receive lots of random bot spam invites. :P

My suggestion, drop out of a few of the groups you don't use much.

I know. I've started doing it, but maybe someone was getting that as well. (─‿‿─)
I only started getting this spam recently and it seems to correlate with this level up bot popping up.

Possible. I've had a few, but as soon as I left bigger Steam groups I haven't seen any again.

I get random invites from level 2 accounts as well. I'm not a member of that particular group you mentioned though.

Did you get one from this one? or this one?
They are the ones from yesterday, I think.

The first one is easy to remember so yes, at least the avatar was the same. I remember thinking if that was some kind of strategy to get people to actually accept the invite. The second I wouldn't remember.

Edit: ... and that's a lot of remembering for one post :P

I got the first one the other day. Another one with the same pic sent me a request a day after or the very same day.
The same shit has been happening to me for a month or a bit less. It started with about 4-6 invites a day. Now it is like 2 since I blocked the majority of them. Sometimes they even miss a day :D

I just ignore 'em until they disappear from the 'New Invites' list. That usually means they've been nuked.;)

Haha, that satisfactory feeling :)
I like to report them and block them. Dunno of how much use is to report them though.

Yeah, I don't know either. With the massive amounts of accounts there are (and new ones created all the time), and the lack of support Steam really has, I can see the reports having minimal effect for the most part.

That being said....

HAPPY CAKE DAY!!!:)

Ah! The ol' Unassigned as a previous handle. A sure sign that it is a scam/spam account!;)

Use Steam Inventory Helper and setup auto ignore private and low level accounts.

Yep, I also got spam invited by level 0-2 spam accounts recently, but fortunately it's only occasionally and for the record I'm only in about 40 or so groups and none of them are mass giveaway/spam groups.

Btw, scripted mass invites and botnet accounts/groups have been a problem for years now, there was even a paid Russian script for this some years back. It's telling that the group I originally posted about over four years ago back then is still alive and well.

I thought Steam prevented this by disabling friend adds on low level accounts?

Maybe these pre-date the change, so still have the ability? I routinely report these bots (maybe 4 or 5 a week?) for spamming invites, although I haven't checked whether this actually prompts Valve into any form of corrective action.

You don't need to be member of any specifc steam group to be bombarded spams. They can find you from any other group on steam and send spam messages. I've been recieving CS:GO gambling group invites and friendship request from scammers ever since I posted something on Game Hub.

After reading this thread I stopped clicking ignorie on the invites and it seems like it stops around 17 invite requests every day now. Few more adding every day to the list and a few disappearing.

It stopped for me when I left all of those Key giveaways groups like Arch or whatever.

And now they're back.

Did you give up on getting free games or do you have better options?

You can drop in and drop out or just avoid some.

Also I mean in particular any CS:GO case key ones, not just the game key ones.

I bought that game, but didn't try it yet, so I don't worry about joining those groups to gain anything and those I join I try to leave them as soon as I got my free game. I also left some groups that got spam of CS in the comments.

Left all those and TF ones too, but to no avail. was silent for a couple of days, then an inv here and there, now we are back to 4+ invites a day. Still, everytime I block them I think to myself "Son, you ain't got as many bots as I can block."

Same. I thought it was over, but then I got 5 invites today. Looks like the piece of shit that sends this was on vacation or something.
